Hidden Gem: The Five One

August 19th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Miscellaneous |
The Five One are another genre-blending group whose music can be defined by the classic rock/pop artists and most iconic hip-hop figures they are influenced by. This group is from the DMV area (Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia), played at SXSW festival in March and released a solid mixtape, Road to SXSW before they arrived at SXSW.
I really like their website because they put put up the lyrics to their songs and explain what the song is about. I believe The Five One is a group that can get really big once their debut album, Red Blue Green Gold, comes out.
Recently The Five One released “Mandatory”, the first single off their debut album. Below I have included “Mandatory” and my favorite song by them, “LA Girl”, which is a chill melody from a Weezer song. Enjoy!
