The best EP I have heard in 2011 is Outasight‘s Figure 8. Although it’s only five tracks, all of them are really good catchy hip-pop/soul/R&B genre-blending awesomeness. A MUST DOWNLOAD which you can get on iTunes or for free on Bandcamp.
I rate all my music and all five songs received 4 or 5 stars which makes it blog worthy.
Below is a music video for “So What” off the EP. This gives you a good idea on the quality and type of style Outasight displays in his latest project. XXL 2012? (more…)
Georgetown student-rapper Tate Tucker is a rising artist you all need to know about. He acapella freestyled in front of Lupe Fiasco, who seems real impressed by the kids flow that he gave him a standing ovation.
Recently Tate released his debut mixtape Blue Dreams (DOWNLOAD), which has incredible production and a few songs that sample one of my favorite groups, Passion Pit. One thing I like most about this mixtape is it’s mostly Tate Tucker on the rhymes with not much collaboration.
The R.A.C or Remix Artist Collective is a duo, comprised of Joel Mark and Matt Colon, that has been going around the Internet remixing all kinds of songs and turning them into dance jams. Check out their remix of the Super Mario theme song. I know there are tons of musicians that can play it live, which is cool, but the R.A.C add their special mix of fat bass and funky keys and actually turn the Super Mario theme into a song you can dance to. It’s very cool.
Also check out their remix to Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody”, another unlikely dance jam
Check out the R.A.C on soundcloud for tons more remixes and party jams.
Diplo recently remixed SHM’s beat to create “One Kid” and adding Nicki Minaj and Sleigh Bells on the track adds credibility to this song and it’s pretty damn sick. It is definitely a track that will get you up on your feet and dancing. It is currently the #7 most popular song on hypem.com and for good reason. Enjoy!
So I couldn’t sleep and while flipping through the channels in the wee hours of the morning, I landed on MTV where I saw this very political and intense music video of Lupe Fiasco’s “Words I Never Said” (featuring Skylar Grey) which was off his recent album Lasers. I highly recommend you take a look at this video as it will definitely get you thinking. Enjoy!
Came across info on the Beastie Boys newest album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two just the other day. I had no idea they were working on a new project until then and I couldn’t be happier. The same old vintage Beastie Boys still remains on this new album with a little bit of new sound in some of their tracks. Their website states:
“Good people, unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, the “clean” version of our new album, The Hot Sauce Committee pt 2 has leaked. So as a hostile and retaliatory measure with great hubris we are making the full explicit aka filthy dirty nasty version available for streaming on our site. We hope this brings much happiness, hugs, and harmony. Enjoy Kikoos for life!
Thank you, The Management”
The whole album is great but here are some of my favorite by them off their newest album:
Listen to the entire Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 album and pre-order it if you please here
As you can see the Beastie Boys are very legit guys who love what they do and love sharing their music with the world. Check out a funny music video below of Danny McBride, Seth Rogan, and Elijah Wood doing a funny impression of the Beastie Boys with many big Hollywood cameos making an appearance. Enjoy!
Once again it’s time for another edition of Best You Never Heard. This time were nearing the end of Spring and into one of my favorite seasons of the year, Summer. Shouts to Jann at SPR with the cover art. As a guideline, we made sure none of the artists chosen had more than 10,000 followers on facebook or twitter.
Listen and download 20 tracks from some of the best up-and-coming artists from a variety of our favorite genres as we present to you Best You Never Heard 3: end of Spring edition.
I actually interned for Sojorn a few years ago at his day job of being an agent at PGA Music for huge acts like Pretty Lights, MiMosa, and Widespread Panic, but he likes to get down too. You work hard, you play hard…right? Anyway, he recently released a remix to the classic R.E.M tune “It Happened Today.” Sojorn keeps it mellow by adding a funky, electronic backing track. It’s not quite a dance track, but it definitely transforms the track into a serious jam. You’ll definitely find yourself nodding with the beat.
Sojorn definitely uses the resources he has available to play shows, but he definitely deserves it. His music holds up. Check out “It Happened Today” below:
Los Angeles rapper/producer Shane Eli is back with a new mixtape, I Can Do Better and yet again, I’m super impressed with his production, his rapping and overall continuing to show his improvement. This mixtape is like a journey with each song having something that makes it unique from the next.
Do I like this mixtape more than Tayyib Ali‘s last mixtape Eighteen, I’m still not so sure. This mixtape is way more chill and I don’t find many songs that stand out or that I would play over and over.
However there are several songs on Keystone State of Mind that I think are real quality chill hip-hop tracks which I like from Tayyib Ali simply because of his flow and the production behind it.
