Vokab Kompany – Quit Sleep (exclusive album preview) + interview

April 21st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap |

I personally first heard Vokab Kopmany back in the fall of 2010 when I saw them rock the crowd in the last 10 minutes of their set before Hoodie Allen came on stage. I really got drawn into the alternative hip-hop band feel to them with electronica influences as well. I have since become solid fan’s their genre-blending sound.

Recently they hit us up with their upcoming album, Quit Sleep, which drops tomorrow. Here’s 2 of my favorites off it and read more to see a Q&A interview I did with Robbie of Vokab Kompany.

What is the motivation behind your upcoming album, Quit Sleep? We’re hungry as hell and motivated as a new baby, economic pressure, and the thought that not one of us is getting any younger. All of us are very passionate about music and bringing new sounds to our practices and hopefully this comes across in the music. We want to stay ahead, we want to create good art and we want be able to live a good life from it.

Theme of upcoming album? The album is called Quit Sleep; most people that are truly persuing their passion know what this feels like. We all have 2 jobs and we put every ounce of us into the music the second we get off job 1. Plus I think Blue Oyster Cult said it best, more cowbell… I mean “I love The Night.”

What can fans expect from upcoming album? Hopefully our fans hear what originally turned them onto us in the first place, something that’s a little different…blending a few different genres together and trying a new things along the way. We got cool features on board this time around like Lincoln Parish (Cage the Elephant), Random Rab,  Dj Vadim (and more) as well as bringing back some of our good friends like Solovox, Deploi, and MC RadioActive.

Any other information you think if relevant for us: We are playing our San Diego album release April 22nd at The Belly Up in Solana Beach along with March Fourth Marching Band! Our goal this summer is to get with the correct booking agency so we can get busy on the road hitting new circuits and giving this thing a full shot.
