Soundcloud’s Best: May *Miraculous & The Geneus, Stevie Grant, Chase Supreme, Kenton Dunson, Bad King

May 31st, 2011 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Soundcloud's Best |

Our best Soundcloud submissions of May with the exception of 1 song that we missed on that came out in April that we just jumped on. Anyways, guaranteed to like at least 1 of these artists, let me know which you like the most.

I’m super excited to have received this dope submission from a duo from my school!

Duo Gene Feliz and Bradford Hester (from the Bronx, NY attending Syracuse university class of 2013) are releasing a mixtape called “ultraviolet” in late August mainly consisting of hype electro-hop type tracks. We’ll be releasing one single on the first of each month up to August 1st. The first single is called “Break It Down”.

Follow Miraculous & The Geneus on twitter.
Miraculous & The Geneus – Break It Down
Not exactly a submission but we featured Stevie Grant back in our first Soundcloud’s best list. Recently he dropped “When You See Me”, which is a nice step up from “Fly” which sampled Rihanna and didn’t feature exactly the greatest rapping but showed some potential with how catchy the beat is. In “When You See Me”, the production is quality and the rapping is improved. Follow on: facebook
Stevie Grant – When You See Me
Chase Supreme‘s “Falling In Lust” shows how the rappers lyrics just flow out of him, this is an alternative almost emo-type hip-hop song with a chill dark vibe. However it’s all these elements that make this song fairly cool and worth checking out. Follow on: facebook / twitter

Next comes an artist I have been following since early May. However it wasn’t until “Rolling Stone” that I became a fan of Kenton Dunson, who has this solid chill hip-hop vibe. The production on this track is what put it over the edge for me in enjoying this song. I think Kenton’s got potential and I look forward to more from the hip-hop/R&B artist. Lastly let’s get this rock party started with “Roll Me Over” by Bad King. The song is considered sounding like “sex-rock” and I say why not, this song is fun. Big potential from these Finnish rockers! Follow on: facebook / twitter

Hidden Gem: iLLiE *hip-hop/rock band!

May 31st, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

I call iLLiE a future hip-hop super group because as a hip-hop band featuring five Los Angeles natives. I think this is a hip-hop group that has potential for success within a couple years, with talent that can translate to success comparable to a hip-hop group like Slaughterhouse. However iLLiE has more of a hip-hop/rock band production behind their music.

Since I love everything iLLiE has put out in 2011, I will include my 2 favorite original tracks and my 3 favorite remix/covers. Shout out to SomeWhere Else for telling me about these guys, musicians really give the greatest recommendations for other artists to check out besides themselves.

Top 2 originals:
iLLiE – On
iLLiE – 2033
Great songs right! Well if you want something more familiar, here’s 4 remix/covers iLLiE did on their latest mixtape, Deja Vu (DOWNLOAD), which is a must-download project!
iLLiE – I’m Going In (Lil Wayne cover/remix)
iLLiE – Start It Up (Lloyd Banks cover/remix)
iLLiE – Hell Of A Life (Kanye West cover/remix)
iLLiE – Allure (Jay-Z cover/remix)

B-Roc Does Memorial Day Weekend in Ibiza

May 31st, 2011 by | Daily Mix, Dance, House |

I know I’m a little late, but B-Roc of the Knocks released a sick dance party mix to celebrate the holiday weekend with. I’m not familiar with any of the individual tracks, but just push play on this 40ish minute mix and you have your party right there. The mix contains no heavy whomps or nothing too intense, just 40 minutes of non-stop dancing.

Follow B-Roc on Twitter for updates of the Knocks, who are up to some big things recently, and updates for the Knocks’ label, HeavyRoc Music, of which B-Roc is the CEO.

Hidden Gem: Anthem *hip-hop swagger

May 30th, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap |

I knew about his music since February, when SITR did a show with Hoodie Allen, Eddy B & Tim Gunter and Anthem. Since then I have been following him and in March Anthem released “God Of Joy (Dionysus)”, that’s when I knew this is a must-watch rapper.

Below I have included my 2 favorites.
Anthem – God of Joy (Dionysus)
Anthem – Yellow Cab

Primary Element – Just Another Day (video+mp3)

May 30th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

I think you can put Primary Element‘s “Just Another Day” as part of the definition for smooth hip-hop. This song is off the DMV hip-hop group’s last mixtape, Ambition, and it’s a chill track with awesome visuals around DC.

Huey Mack – Freshman 15 (Mixtape)

May 30th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap |

The other day, Huey Mack released his latest mixtape, Freshman 15. This is my first real listen to Huey, and I have to say, I was really impressed. His sound is real polished, his flows are tight, and the beats are awesome. Producers for the tape include Big Jerm, Brenton Duvall, and the Xtraordinary Gentleman, meaning that there is top notch production throughout the tape.

I’m not going to say Huey isn’t cliche “frat rap” or whatever you want to call it, but Freshman 15 is super chill for the most part, but also includes some more upbeat party jams. My favorites from the tape are:

Huey Mack – “Syllabus Week”

Huey Mack – “Looking at the Sky”

Avicii – Levels *Electro-House banger!

May 29th, 2011 by | Electro, House |

This song is so sick! Electronic music is growing on me so quick because I’m learning that it is one of the most complex music genres with just making one good beat being something tough and then having to build off that. However the opportunities of sound are limitless in electronic music, which is a big reason why the rest of the entertainment industry realizes electronic music is essential beyond just dance clubs and music shows, but in films (see Tron Legacy), video games and much more.

Avicii is another example of a rising electronic artist who is making waves in the music industry. “Levels” is a bonified 5-star!

Introducing Artymove *Electronic Pop

May 29th, 2011 by | Electropop |

Artymove is a music group from Sweden that has a mix of sounds from electronic pop, dubstep and soul. In February, they released their debut EP, One Of These Days (DOWNLOAD), which included 3 tracks that have this relaxed enjoyable sound.

I actually liked all the songs and enjoy them more and more every time I listen to them. It’s the kind of music that grows on you if your in the mood for something relaxed.

Dom Kennedy – CDC ft. Casey Veggies & cARTer (video + mp3)

May 29th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

Memorial Day weekend, here’s a chill song from LA rappers Dom Kennedy, Casey Veggies & cARTer. The beat on this is new school West coast rap, the flow is contagious, overall I’m a big fan. This is one of those hip-hop songs, where you clearly hear the talent out of these dudes.
