Memorial Day weekend, here’s a chill song from LA rappers Dom Kennedy, Casey Veggies & cARTer. The beat on this is new school West coast rap, the flow is contagious, overall I’m a big fan. This is one of those hip-hop songs, where you clearly hear the talent out of these dudes. Dom Kennedy – CDC feat. Casey Veggies & cARTer
Below listen and download the song and after the jump watch the official music video for “CDC”. (more…)
Star Slinger, a producer/DJ out of the UK, makes a new breed of hip-hop/electronic/dance jams. His music is super funky, full of tons of layers and nuances, and uses samples in ways no one else is. His music will get you dancing, his music will get your head nodding, and his music is definitely a must listen.
He recently dropped the Rogue Cho Pa EP, which is apparently full of stuff Star Slinger had “left lying around.” If the stuff that he has lying around is this awesome, I can’t wait to hear what else he has. The 6 song EP takes you on a journey through chilled out, down-tempo stuff, to more upbeat dance-party jams. The tracks are instrumental for the post part, with samples thrown in, but the songs are so interesting that they don’t feel like instrumentals.
Follow Star Slinger on Twitter and Facebook, and head over to his soundcloud where he has tons of other instrumentals and sick remixes available for free download.
Because we love Childish Gambino so much on this blog, check out Star Slinger’s remix to “Freaks and Geeks”
With their upbeat electronic rock Anamanaguchi have this perfect video game music sound. Well that’s selling it short, as its much better than that! A brief bio:
We are Anamanaguchi. We make hyper-active, hyper-positive 8-bit jams that epicly wail with guitars and drums.
Anamanaguchi considers their music a mix of 8bit, punk and fast power pop: overall it makes for a cool retro video game style Below are two of their recent songs, “My Skateboard Will Go On” is a must-download if you like upbeat electronic/rock music that sounds too good for somebody to lay vocals on.

I recently stumbled upon a sick remix to Chris Breezy’s “Look at Me Now” by AC Slater. He keeps the original sound of the Diplo produced beat, maintains the flow of the lyrics, but transforms the track into an awesome dance party. Throughout the song, there are valleys, slow-buildups, and epic drops, the most of epic of which is the build-up through Busta’s rapid-fire verse, then the massive drop. All I know is I get to AC Slater in a few weeks, and I’m very excited.
Another edition of Sampled Saturday and today I’m hitting you with five hip-hop songs with various samples which I will list with each song you are familiar how they have given the song a different direction.
First I will give you the song from one of the most popular white rappers out there, Mac Miller. He has released several tracks since Best Day Ever, some of them have been weak but his sample of The Temper Trap‘s “Love Lost” is pretty cool. They didn’t really change up the original much except with Mac jumping on the vocals instead. Mac Miller – Love Lost (prod. Black Diamond)
What I like about Kid QC is that he uses samples a lot but doesn’t take away what we like from the original while adding something fresh with his rapping. Here QC samples my favorite disco music from the Bee Gees. Kid QC – Staying Alive (Prod. by Young Surf)
Next comes a chill hip-hop songs that samples my favorite crooner, Michael Buble. Boro is an emerging talent, I’m not sure I’m a fan yet but all I know is I got big respect for him for sampling Buble. Boro ft. Michael Buble – Home (Prod. Urban Noize)
I have heard this Three Dog Night song sampled many times, yet always slightly different in how its used. Here Pmac uses “One” to create a chill hip-hop track with a sick hook using the original. Pmac – One
Last song is more of an Pop freestyle over one of the best Third Eye Blind songs ever! Although Bei Maejor uses “Semi-Charmed Life” to showcase his vocals, I love the instrumentals so much. I mean, come on, it’s Third Eye Blind, if you don’t like Third Eye Blind, you need to check your ears. Bei Maejor – Something Else
Hope everybody is having a great 3 day weekend!
Radio hit! I never believed “I Love College” was going to be Asher Roth‘s last mainstream hit; never thought he was a one-hit wonder. “Last Man Standing” featuring Akon is Roth’s next single that should put him back on the map and show people that he’s not just another white rapper with a 1-hit wonder.
I heard rumors that Asher Roth was working with Pharrell Williams, not sure what happened with that but I’m glad Akon agreed to jump on this track, it’s like the cherry on top of an ice cream sundae.
Loving the beat, rapping is superb, Akon brings the catchy hooks and the mainstream appeal, overall a well-made track. Listen and download “Last Man Standing” below. Asher Roth – Last Man Standing [Ft. Akon]
Bonus: Speaking of Pharell, here’s a rap he did over a song in one of my favorite film soundtracks, Tron Legacy. I loved the film’s sound because Daft Punk‘s sound actually made everything in the movie better! Does Pharell’s rap make the track better? Pharrell – The Game Has Changed
I’m not going to upload any of the songs because it’s all dependent whether you are in the mood to party or not. If your in the mood to party, then I highly recommend downloading this Clinton Sparks mixtape, My Awesome Mixtape and get ready to party!
Here’s the full mix to stream below but download the project so you could get individual tracks. Tracklisting below which lets you know all the artists Clinton Sparks get’s on this star-studded mixtape. (more…)
French electronic duo Justice are so talented. We heard “Civilization” a while back as part of an Adidas commercial then the full song was released building even more buzz on the latest from Justice. Justice has created an immense amount of excitement based on a single track, building the anticipation over a course of months, not weeks.
Today they dropped the official music video and I was surprised by how stunning the visuals are as the backdrop for such an epic dance/electronic tune. Justice – Civilization
Official music video after the jump. (more…)
For a rapper with an interesting background, look no further than talented Los Angeles-based MC, Azad Right. This is a dude I should have jumped on when he hit us up on 4/20 and now over a month later we finally are getting him on the site. Here’s a brief bio on him:
Every once in awhile, someone enters the game with a new perspective which offers an interesting slant on the culture with an opportunity to influence the masses in a positive way. That claim has been made by many before in the past by many a rapper, but tell me if you’ve heard of this before: a Venice, California, son of a divorced-blind poet, classically trained pianist and violinist with a Bachelor’s degree of Iranian descent. Enter Azad Right.
It’s finally here! Earlier today around 12pm EST, illRoots released Chiddy Bang‘s latest mixtape, Peanut Butter And Swelly (DOWNLOAD). Honestly I can’t give you my favorites because I love all the tracks that Chiddy Bang makes. This is MUST-DOWNLOAD mixtape, I mean it’s Chiddy Bang, you know they are going to throw it down with quality music. There’s a few familiar songs that they have already released but mostly it’s brand new tracks.
They got some strong features with some new artists (eLDee The Don) and some fairly well-known artists (Mac Miller) as well. I like the fact they are working with new artists mostly than they have worked with in the past, as it just shows everybody wants to get on a Xaphoon Jones production.
