STS – Cliche (Prod by the Knux)

July 30th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Underground and hidden gem rapper STS just dropped the first single, “Cliche” off his upcoming album album titled The Illustrious. I’m always impressed with STS’s flow and his seriously unique flow over pretty industry standard beats. The beat, produced by The Knux, is chilled out and sparse, but STS goes HAM and absolutely kills it.

STS has been in the game awhile, yet he remains out of the spotlight. Follow the dude on Twitter and Facebook and keep an eye out for The Illustrious.

Introducing Shapes of Light *producer/DJ duo

July 29th, 2011 by | Dance, Remix |

Why do these guys have less than 100 facebook fans! Well here’s a couple songs from Shapes of Light, my favorite is their original song “Triads” but their “Cars, Money, and Fame” remix actually makes the song more interesting and turns it into a upbeat dubstep banger.

SInce Shapes of Light did a remix to a Timeflies song, let’s throw in their latest song which samples “Under The Sea” from Little Mermaid. Check it out after the jump.

July 29th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

All these rappers have been featured on BtB before but for some reason I kept putting off blogging about these songs. Here’s five hip-hop/rap tracks that came out in June that you need to listen to. Links to previous posts from artists provided.

Theodore Grams – Crystallized (Produced by Xaphoon Jones)

Jody Duff – Dark Knight Kill Music

Luck One – Sounds Of The City

STS – STSisGOLD (Phantogram remix)

QuESt – Let It Out

Washed Out – Eyes Be Closed (Star Slinger Remix)

July 29th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Remix |

In the DJ game, there is no one who can touch UK DJ/producer Star Slinger. He has carved out his own path, and there is absolutely nobody near him in terms of combining originality, creativity, and fat beats. His latest track, a remix to Washed Out’s “Eyes be Closed” transforms the mellow indie campfire swaying into a breakbeat dance track.

Download: Washed Out – “Eyes Be Closed” (Star Slinger Remix)

Right now, Star Slinger stays slaying dance-floors overseas in Europe, but rumor has it that he’ll be touring the US in the late fall/early winter. Follow him on Twitter for updates. If he comes to your city, go catch him live. I promise, you’ve never heard anything like this dude.

Mickey Factz – Letter to Sonic (Prod. by Charles Hamilton)

July 29th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

If this were 2009, a song that had any word possibly referencing Sonic The Hedgehog, then I and most other hip-hop heads would know that song probably has something to do with Charles Hamilton. Today hearing Brooklyn rapper Charles Hamilton‘s name is not real common among the hip-hop blogs as he has had his own struggles which have curtailed his music career.

However Charles Hamilton as a producer I’m a huge fan of, as you got this retro beat, loving the piano, rapping from Mickey Factz is solid, overall a pretty good song worth listening to. If they replaced the piano with some catchy electronic/dance beat, you think this would be a more popular song.

July 28th, 2011 by | Dance, Remix |

Dance music post! I suggest you press play on these songs, then get up off your ass and start dancing. It’s almost Friday, dance and cheer for that! Anyways, not sure where I was going with that, but here’s five dance songs. Some are originals, while others are remixes all with the same theme, get up and dance or at least try to sing along.

Alex Metric – End Of The World (ft. Charli XCX)

Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks (Polaris At Noon Remix)

Trash Yourself– Down to the Disco ft. Treasure Fingers

VHS or Beta – I Found A Reason

Icona Pop – Manners (Captain Cuts Remix)

[video] Wolfgang Gartner – Forever ft. Will.I.Am

July 28th, 2011 by | Dance, House, Music Video |

I fucking love this song! Such a rager! I wanna party all night long and everything about this song fuels that. Wolfgang Gartner killing it with the instrumentals, giving just enough vocals to not ruin the song. I’m super excited as we are going to Las Vegas tomorrow and this song just makes me want to party that much more. Thirsty Thursday, let’s go!!!

Earlier this month, they dropped the official music video for “Forever”. It’s actually kind of weird, starts off as a little sperm then by the end of the video he’s groping an old lady. Music video after the jump.

Play-N-Skillz – Fireworks (mixtape) + music video

July 28th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video, Pop |

For up-and-coming party hip-hop, look no further than Play-N-Skillz. The Texas group creates catchy fun music that I could easily see on the radio. They recently released Fireworks, which could easily be an album for, especially if LMFAO and 3OH!3 have people paying for their music.

Here’s my three favorites from Play-N-Skillz latest mixtape, Fireworks (DOWNLOAD).

Play-N-Skillz – She Goes On (Journey sample!)

Play-N-Skillz – Besos ft. Pitbull (radio banger)

Play-N-Skillz – I Just Wanna Fuck ft. Nelly and Three 6 Mafia (radio banger)

After the jump watch a music video for “Survivor”, a fairly catchy song off Fireworks. The video features cameo’s from some of the top musicians in the hip-hop/rap industry.

Sonny Shotz – “Never Good” (Bonobo Remix)

July 28th, 2011 by | Ambient, Hip-Hop/Rap, Remix |

Another new Sonny Shotz track and it’s a good one. In this song, Sonny raps over a Bonobo remix which is straight fire. The beat is super laid back but very catchy and enjoyable to listen to, especially with Sonny’s killer lyricism. This kid as well as The Dean’s List continue to improve off each new track they drop and it is only a matter of time before their songs are played all over the radio and they are performing a major music festivals (I’m saying by next summer at the latest). Anyway, enjoy this awesome track, I am positive you will be playing this one a repeat.

“Enough is never good and im way too clutch”

The Magic Beans – The Magic Beans (Free Album)

July 28th, 2011 by | Chill/Jam/Reggae |

When you talk to jam band fans, most will tell you that they never listen to studio albums. You go see bands like Phish and Umphrey’s McGee for the energy and live improvisation that takes the music to a level you just can’t reach in a studio environment. However, the Magic Beans, out of Boulder, Colorado, just released an album that will have you thinking a little differently.

On the Beans’ self-titled debut, they bring you tighter, more polished versions of the songs they’ve been playing live for almost a year now. On the album only one song dips below 5 minutes while the rest around right around 10 minutes long. Now, that does not mean noodling by any means. They went into the studio with a purpose. They wanted to jam hard but without losing focus. On each track, there are solos, quick changes, dips, and massive peaks, all coming together to create a real mellow listen top-to-bottom.

Highlights for me from the album are the chilled out vibes of “Adonde?” the bluegrass flair on “Mountain Sky” and the space funk of “Gefiltefunk.” The entire album is full of mellow vibes from a band that loves what they do.

Last week, the Magic Beans killed it at the Fox Theatre in Boulder for their official album release party, and you can find all of the pictures on their Facebook.
