Soundcloud’s best: August *Zach Majors, Zoo Legacy, DJ Invisiboy, Stigmah, DJ i6

August 31st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Mashup, Pop, R&B, Remix, Rock, Soundcloud's Best |

Welcome to the August 2011 edition of Soundcloud’s Best, a monthly feature spotlighting the top 5 song submissions we received on our soundcloud.

First is a track that came out only an hour ago from Quincy Kwalae, Billy Van and Zach Majors. This track is remix/mashup collab with producer’s Billy Van and Quincy Kwalae and vocalist Zach Majors. They took the lyrics from Chris Brown’s “She Aint You” and Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” and put them over an original electro-pop-dub beat. Watch the video shows in studio action.

Zoo Legacy is an up and coming indie rock and chill-hop band based out of Ottawa, Canada. Their fans have described Zoo Legacy’s sound as sort of like Kid Kudi meets N.E.R.D meets The xx.

Next comes mashup artist DJ Invisiboy with “Drop with the DJ” a mashup tribute to these artists: The Knocks, one of my favorite 90’s 1-hit wonder, Tag Team, and Jesse Marco. Invisiboy continues to impress with his upbeat fun party mashups.

Stigmah is a rapper/producer from Atlanta. The song is called “King Of Arcades” and it samples a punk rock song by Lupe Fiasco‘s neo-punk side project, Japanese Cartoon. This probably won’t be the last you hear from Stigmah on BtB as he uses interesting non-hip hop samples in his material from what I have heard so far.

Saving the best for last comes DJ i6, who created a banging party mashup with “Tonight”. This is the first single for DJ i6 off his upcoming mashup album, “Structure and Flow”, his third mashup project, which will be released September 6. One of the best party mashups I have heard in recent memory.

Recently alternative rock band Miniature Tigers released their latest single, “Boomerang”. It’s got a dreamy sound, I’m loving the instrumentals, the vocals are smooth. Overall a fun relaxing song.

Concert Review: Machine Gun Kelly at The Key Club (Hollywood)

August 30th, 2011 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Concert/Festival Review, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Reviews |

Lace-Up, the popular term used by cleveland bred rapper Machine Gun Kelly. I’ll admit, at first I was not the biggest fan of the kid. However, slowly over time his music started growing on me. Once I saw him live, I immediately realized how big he is going to get.

I got to the Key Club in Hollywood where he was performing late and only saw him on stage for about 20 minutes. However, that’s all I needed to see. He is so electrifying when he performs as he enjoys climbing walls,  spraying water into the crowd and joining his fans by stage diving all while spitting his awesome rhythms.

The place was packed to near capacity; and it was on a Sunday night. Mat Musto and Mike Posner added to the fun with their contribution to the show as well. I didn’t get to the club in time to see Mike Posner perform and did not even know he was there. However, Mat Musto added as a great feature to MGK’s set.

Below are a few of the songs I heard from MGK which I especially liked the most. Enjoy!

Eddy B & Tim Gunter – So Fly

August 30th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Eddy B & Tim Gunter further show their versatile sound with a electronic hip-pop track that is a catchy party song in “So Fly”. This is already one of my favorites from them as they continue to improve their sound. I honestly think they may have more potential than Chiddy Bang! “So Fly” is off their upcoming project, Insomniac Dreams, which the guys have been extremely hard at work on.

The Dean’s List – “Kryptonite Sanity Room” (K.S.R.)

August 29th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

A few new dates added to the Pledge to Rage Tour  and with that, so is a new track by The Dean’s List called “Kryptonite Sanity Room” (K.S.R.). Mik Beats and DJ Mendoza once again put together an awesome beat especially with the piano mixed in with all sorts of greatness. Not to mention, Sonny Shotz kills it as usual with his rapping.

For anyone who has been following us, we have been supporting this group from the beginning and they continue to get better with each new track that drops. Their future is super bright and their hard work and dedication is starting to pay off. I cannot wait to seem them perform this track among other great ones of theirs when they come to L.A. on November 3rd. Enjoy!
