King Fantastic just released Death of Summer EP (DOWNLOAD), a 4-track EP that probably has the best quality electronic gangsta rap production I have ever heard in an album/ep/mixtape. This is a must-download project. Listen and download (iTunes) below:

Last Friday I saw Slik D, WICKER, and King Fantastic perform at The Viper Room in Hollywood, California. First let’s get to one of the middle acts in the show, who I caught when I first got to Viper Room. Slik D is a solid rapper from Carson, CA that has this chill 90’s sound. Most of his songs sounded pretty similar to each other, he didn’t really stand out, yet I kept watching him as his chill-hop is real smooth live. Download his music here on bandcamp if you are into chill hip-hop.

Next came WICKER a band that blends electronic, hip-hop and rock/pop and a variety of other genres. Their set was versatile, offering a mostly really exciting sound except for when the dubstep dominated the song for too long. Overall, I really enjoyed their stage presence, which created a real fun upbeat show. My favorite by far was the last song, “People Going Crazy”, which is exactly what the crowd was doing. Here’s a video of them performing the song at a similarly awesome venue, The Roxy.

Lastly came the headliner King Fantastic, who killed it as usual. My third time seeing them live, this was one of their best performances. My favorite from them was “Why? Where? What?”
