Soundcloud’s Best: September *DJ Burnout, Filip Filipi, Smokey Robotic, Ocelot, Aziz

September 30th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance, Dubstep, Hip-Hop/Rap, Mashup, Soundcloud's Best |

Once again the five best songs we received through soundcloud are a wide variety but sure to please the ears. Here’s Soundcloud’s Best for September.

First I wanted to highlight DJ Burnout‘s best mashup he released in September with “One More Hump” which uses Daft Punk‘s “One More Time” on instrumentals mixed with several bumping pop songs that bring the hump. Yikes that sounded kind of gross… get the bumping music on to bring the hump… “One More Hump”!

Next we go with newcomer Filip Filipi with “Big City Chaser” featuring Mansions On The Moon and Work Drugs. It’s got this electronic chill-hop sound, which is real interesting and caught my ear.

Now for a group that if you are not familiar with them yet, you should be as they have a superfuture sound that is slowly catching on. Here’s Smokey Robotic‘s latest, “No Reality”, which features Redman! Haven’t heard from Redman in a while so that’s a great addition to quite an interesting song.

Now for a remix whose original should be on the radio, “I Stand Alone” by Theophilus London. The chill-wave/dubstep remix from Ocelot has been officially approved by Theophilus and is a remix that grows on you even though it isn’t as catchy as the original.

Lastly comes another artist who has a fairly prominent feature on the blog, Aziz. The instrumental produced by No Studio is what caught my ear and the rapping from Aziz goes so well with this banging hip-hop anthem. My only question is, who the fuck is Clay Davis? Well I googled it and found out Clay Davis is a character from HBO’s The Wire and he was known for saying “sheeeeee-it,” which the song ends with. I enjoy the song a bit more now knowing that.

Hey Champ remixes and features *Passion Pit, Mike Posner & much more!

September 30th, 2011 by | Ambient, Disco, Electro, Electropop, New Wave, Pop, Remix, synthpop |

I’m a huge fan of Hey Champ, they may be my favorite music trio from Chicago. A couple weeks back, we introduced you to them with their best original material. Now here’s five of the best songs they are either featured in or they have remixed.

Let’s begin with their electro-pop remix to Mike Posner‘s “Cooler Than Me”. It’s got a pretty cool vibe, mostly enjoy this because I love the original so much. Although I prefer the original, this is a minimalistic remix that provides a change of pace than all the other versions of “Cooler Than Me”. DOWNLOAD

Next comes a song Hey Champ is featured in, “Getting You Off”, which is by 80kidz. Another pop song with smooth enjoyable instrumentals, almost reminds me of Empire Of The Sun but more relaxed vocals. Download

Next comes one of my favorite Passion Pit songs, “Little Secrets”, which Hey Champ remixed by changing the instrumentals to a downtempo vibe. If you like Passion Pit, you will really enjoy this! DOWNLOAD

Maroon 5 – “Moves Like Jagger” (feat. Mac Miller & Christina Aguilera)

We all know and love Maroon 5‘s widely popular track “Moves Like Jagger” but what happens when you add in versus from Mac Miller and Christina Aguilera? Well, you get straight fire. What was already a very catchy and awesome track is now even better with these two bigs acts included in the mix. Enjoy!

Sex Ray Vision – All Of You with Cilla Chan *electro house pop

September 30th, 2011 by | Electro, House, Pop, R&B |

Another club banger from Sex Ray Vision, they have become my favorite electro house/hip-pop duo and I can’t wait for what’s next. I hope their management, Blackbook Music Group can get these guys on local radio, because more people need to hear Sex Ray Vision. SRV teams up with fellow Stanford singer/songwriter Cilla Chan to present “All of You,” their latest original track, a smooth blend of pop/R&B vocals and SRV’s signature electrohouse production. Robby Blackwell – Moments *fun alternative/R&B

Not sure how I got this song but I dig it very much. For some fun R&B that has a Pop/Rock vibe with the instrumentals, look no further than Robby Blackwell‘s “Moments”.

Sex Ray Vision update *6 new awesome songs

September 29th, 2011 by | Dance, Electro, Hip-Hop/Rap, House, Pop, Remix |

I’m a huge fan of Sex Ray Vision and see the Northern California electronic house/hip-pop duo being mainstream acts sooner than you think! Their potential and the fact that only the college music blogs have been posting their music is a big reason why we featured “My (Other) Beach House” on Best You Never Heard 4, a 22-track mixtape featuring the best up-and-coming artists that many of you might never have heard of.

Anyways, here’s five new bangers from Sex Ray Vision.

The song that record labels and mainstream radio will have trouble ignoring. Original from De-Lor, “That We Loved” is more of a simplistic R&B jam that reminds me of The Weeknd but Sex Ray Vision gives it this electro house remix that takes it to another level.

Here’s three originals from Sex Ray Vision that would fall into the electronic house awesome category.

A-lis – You Give Me (ft. Devon Wright) *catchy hip-pop

September 29th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |
Newcomer to Before the Bigs, Florida native A-lis, gives us a hot track. With a catchy hook, and smooth verses by A-Lis, this one should be a pleaser to all of our hip-hop fans. Head over to his facebook page for more info on the man. Be on the lookout for more music from him, Before the Bigs will be the first to get it.

Young Jeezy (ft. T.I.) – F.A.M.E.

September 29th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

To commemorate T.I.‘s first day as a free man. Jeezy decides to grace him with an invite to feature on one of his tracks, what an honor. A typical Young Jeezy song, he always sounds angry. Although I don’t know why, I’m sure he’s fairly rich. But anyway, T.I. sounds good on this, not too rusty after sometime in the slammer.

Ground Up – “The Get Down” (Mixtape)

September 29th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Last week, Philadelphia hip-hop duo Ground Up released their most recent project, The Get Down. Once again they provide a very laid-back and relaxing feel to their music. Their lyricism is great and the chill instrumentals all around create a great vibe to listen to.

This 16-track mixtape is filled with slow, smooth head-nodding all throughout. Great to cruise down the streets with the windows down in your car. They continue to impress with their old-school style. As this type of hip-hop has slowly faded away over the years, Ground Up continues to keep it relevant and makes it even better.

My favorite tracks off The Get Down are below. If you like what you hearing (which I know you will), then download the entire mixtape.

“No Thanks” (prod. Bij Lincs) (Download)

“Fucked Up” (prod. Melee) (Download)

“Going on” (featuring Aziz) (prod. Bij Lincs) (Download)

“13 Floor” (featuring Farz & Bij Lincs) (Download)

“Scars” (prod. Big Z) (Download)
