The other day I stumbled upon a dandy little music video by an Australian band called San Cisco. Basically, these indie poppers have swag. Having recently released their debut EP “Golden Revolver,” San Cisco is gearing up for an exciting year.
They released a video for their single “Girls Do Cry” and they collaborated with an independent fashion design collective based in New York. The video is a vintage inspired clip of several young women who are independent fashion designers. Needless to say, the song goes perfectly with the footage. Check out the awesome video below!
New leak from Philly hip-hop duo Ground Up. The name of the track is “Boulevard” and is on their upcoming mini-mixtape, Romantic Comedy which is set to drop this Tuesday. This is quite an enjoyable track to listen to, with legit rapping and amazing instrumentals. This is perfect for cruising down the street with the windows down.
We’ve been following Ground Up for well over a year now and each time they come out with a new track, they continue to mature and improve in all aspects of their music. I look forward to Romantic Comedy!
California vibe band Radical Something recently released their newest music video. This time it is to their track “Sun Down” and it’s a good one. When they sent us over the new video, they stated that:
“Friendship and family are the two biggest things in our lives, and this new jam is really an ode to the good times we have all had with one another.”
The visuals truly show what they mean as the whole video is shot with the group and their friends just relaxing and enjoying life together. Be sure to download their free album We Are Nothing here.
Hey guys, I know it’s been a while but I have a treat for you here. 10 days ago, Shwayze & Cisco rolled through my hometown of Fort Collins, CO. The whole family over at BananaBeat Records was super chill, and gave me an hour or so to come kick it and ask them a few questions. We even test drove a new game they showed me, ‘Bust-a-Rhyme’ (shown in video).
The show was incredible. With support from G-Eazy, ModSun, & Cobraconda it would have been tough not to enjoy this show. Whether you’ve been sipping a corona & lime to Buzzin’ for years or Island in the Sun is your first tango, this show was for you. Shwayze & Cisco played a perfect blend of old and new material. Some songs with the both of them on the mic, some with Cisco on guitar, and some even with the treat of Goodfeather blowing horns in the back.
There was no better way to spend a Wednesday night. Much love to the family over at BananaBeat Records.
Third week of the Waves series has Jhameel releasing the title track to this weekly music series, “Waves”. BRyan the bass player of Jhameel said, “I feel that this song has a soft, warm vibe that drifts into almost nihilistic territory lyrically, but it’s all positive in the end. Despite touching on the idea that everything that comes will eventually go, it feels satisfied and happy to me.” Here’s the three songs released from the Waves series so far. Waves by jhameel
The Indie-rock trio called the Nurses has grown because of their psychedelic pop sounds and a following of fans that has developed. Two years ago, this Portland-based group joined Bloomington’s Dead Oceans Records. Since then, they have released Apple’s Acre (2009)and recently Dracula (2011). Nurses is made up of Aaron Chapman (vocals, guitar, keyboard), John Bowers (backing vocals, keyboard), and James Mitchell (percussionist & visual artist). Chapman’s high-pitched voice reminds me of Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos. I saw them perform at Bloomington’s Russian Recordings a few weeks ago and thought they sound like if Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear had a music baby, it would sound like Nurses. All three bands are groups you can close your eyes and enjoy because everything psychedelic-sounding seems to go well together.
They even have their own Wikipedia page, which shows that they are a little more well-known then some other bands. They received a 7.2 ratting from Pitchfork, which is pretty good since Pitchfork doesn’t rate most groups very highly. They toured with Swedish folk musician The Tallest Man on Earth in 2010. Starting this month they will be touring in Europe for two months.
My favorite songs from them are “Fever Dreams”, “Man At Arms”, and “Technicolor”. It might take them a few years to get to Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, MGMT, and Passion Pit’s level, but I think they will get there soon. Listen to my three favorites below and comment if you feel they have a future in the music industry.
Seriously “You Know As Well As I” is a song that deserves to be on the radio! SPEAK needs to be on the radio and this song further proves that. Major record labels need to take notice and I think the cheerful upbeat tone of SPEAK‘s music fits in well with the holiday season quickly approaching. You Know As Well As I by SPEAK
Plus as an added bonus, here’s Miniature Tigers alternative remix to “Carrie”. I’m a fan of Miniature Tigers alternative pop sound and was surprised to see them do a remix to their alternative pop peers Speak. The original is a catchy upbeat love ballad that you will be singing along with everytime they say “Carrie” but the remix is chill with enhanced production due to the remix. Download’s for both songs are below, all you have to do is enter your email to recieve these two upbeat alternative pop/rock songs.
Lastly I forgot to mention SPEAK‘s latest album, I Believe In Everything, is out on iTunes! Stream the album after the jump. (more…)
Two new songs that dropped within the last week or so that involve up-and-comer Star Slinger slanging dope instrumentals with solidly built production from the lyricism to the beats. The first song is a remix to a electronic remix to an R&B original. First Star Slinger remixed Reggie B‘s “Dumbin’” and then Diplo remixed that. Star Slinger – Dumbin’ feat. Reggie B (DIPLO Remix) by Star Slinger [DOWNLOAD]
The next Star Slinger remix is to the hip-hop song “Anything” by Shear-Jashub. Update:Star Slinger has informed us that Shear-Jashub actually rapped over an old beat of his. Star Slinger did not remix this but his production is featured on the majority of the track. Still, this is a bonified 5-star in my book and a must-download! Anything. Last night at The Echo in Silverlake, I saw a slew of awesome musicians. K.Flay, Lesands, The Chain Gang of 1974 and Tic Tic Boom! all rocked the place with style. The show was special in the fact that it consisted of artists and groups on a wide range of genres and not one specific type of music and it was Chain Gang’s last night of their residency at The Echo.
It varied from a female rapper with great electronic beats, indie and alternative rock, and more. Even though it was on a Monday night and the crowd wasn’t as large as I expected, the show was still amazing. Enjoy my favorite tracks from the show below!
