The White Rhino Knitting Factory Album Release PreviewHere’s 6 tracks that preview how dope The White Rhino‘s album will be when it drops in 2012. I think this is must-listen project if your looking for a different kind of hip-hop coming out of NYC, something more alternative with slick elements of rock built in.

Below stream and download the 6-track album preview. My two favorites are “Conquest” and “New York City“.

Standing Shadows and Hyena at The Viper Room

December 21st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Rock |

viper room profile Standing Shadows and Hyena at The Viper Room

Last Wednesday I saw two very interesting groups perform at the infamous Viper Room in Hollywood. The bands were Standing Shadows and Hyena, who both killed it on stage.

Standing Shadows is an alternative-indie-electro band based in Los Angeles. They mix together heavy guitar melodies and soundscapes with vintage synthesizing sounds and emotional vocals, singing in a trilling voice. They have diverse vocals varying from uber-chill whispers to heart-pounding screams. They had excellent stage presence and really got the crowd rocking. My favorite track they performed is called “Silent Revolution”. Enjoy!

Right after Standing Shadows concluded their set, Hyena came on stage with their creative and unique sound. They are a San Diego based duo who have similarities to Cut Copy, Phoenix and The Bravery. The group puts together dark, electronic-fueled beats tied with upbeat synthesizers and energetic bass lines. To add to that, the two have interesting vocals which help make them stand out. They were truly a joy to watch live and I will definitely see them again in person soon. My favorite song that they performed is called “Puma”. Enjoy!

2 New Music Videos (Ground Up & Radical Something)

December 20th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

Ground Up – “Boulevard” (Download)

Above is the new visuals for “Boulevard” off Ground Up‘s recent mixtape Romantic Comedy. I love this song and when they add in a cool music video too, it builds even more credibility for this up-and-coming hip-hop group who continues to shine!

Radical Something – “Freedom” (Download)

This west coast group shot their newest music video for “Freedom” in New York city. Radical Something has always been great at providing chill songs to vibe to and I especially enjoy when they include great visuals with it as well. This group is going places and I am glad I found them while they are still up-and-coming!

Hey kids,
You all know I have a minor obsession with the duo VIBE. Off of their latest release, which is free, Hakuna Matata, this is the video for “Still a Kid at Heart.” If you have any nostalgia at all for the days of youth you will love this.

It was one of those cold, lonely nights and I was in need of some warm music to keep me company. The City Streets provided just that. Hailing from Alberta, Canada, this trio dubs their style of music “melodic power pop with with the spirit of punk rock always shining a light.” Great stuff. So my two favorite songs by these guys are”Irish Rose” and “All is Grace,” both off their 2010 album The Jazz Age. I’ve included mp3s of both songs. ENJOY!
