4557 600x465 Hidden Gem: Hyena *sounds like Cut Copy, Phoenix! We saw duo perform at the end of 2011 and I immediately knew this is a legit, must-follow music group. They are called Hyena, based out of San Diego, California and with tons of energy live and excellent production in many of their songs.

I’m so happy I asked their videographer for their latest CD or I might not have gotten into this group as I am now. Their sound can be described as indie electronic and draw comparisons to a more lo-fi Phoenix or Cut Copy. Below stream their latest project, We See You, a MUST-DOWNLOAD.

Below you will find some stuff I pulled from Hyena‘s bio that best describes their sound.
Hyena is the indie-electro musical lovechild of Michael Cooper (Transfer) and Bryan Stratman (Producer, Capricorn Studios). The band exploded onto the scene with their debut album ‘We See You’, a stellar combination of crossover indie-electronic tracks with dub step, indie-rock and synth influences. The live show is a must see electrifying experience, combining high energy electro beats with the organic, raw nature of live instruments and superior musicianship. Hyena’s way of lacing epic dance beats with timeless pop melodies has global dance floors lusting for more. Dark electronic-fueled drum beats interwoven with Coop’s
organic live drums juxtapose Strat’s upbeat synths and driving bass lines seamlessly. The lush vocal interplay between the duo adds a depth that sets them apart from the rest. Hyena’s high-energy performances include a surreal visual euphoria, making the whole experience an electrifying ambush of the senses.
