About 10 days ago I witnessed a very laid back almost trippy performance from Papadosio and a ton of fun covers and original tunes from one of the most underrated bands, The Main Squeeze, at Echoplex. Read more below.
I got there right when The Main Squeeze got on and they just jammed out with one of the best male vocalists I’ve ever heard in a band in Corey Frye. This dude has some serious pipes and could probably go onto a solo R&B career swooning the ladies if he wanted to but the rest of the band is so talented from keyboardist Ben Silverstein to guitarist Max Newman and bassist Jeremiah Hunt to the drummer Reuben Gingrich. Loads of talent, hard to remember my favorite track but probably one of the funky covers they performed that I loved the most. My favorite originals I heard was “Dr. Funk”. Stream that and the rest of their last album below.
Next came on Papadosio which has some sort of desert/yoga appeal where if you were doing yoga in a desert, you would thoroughly enjoy and become inspired by the music they would be performing. However, at Echoplex, hearing Papadosio for the first time just jam out from song to song without stops sounded real awesome and the projector had visuals that complemented the music perfectly. The best way to enjoy Papadosio without seeing them live is listening to one of their many live album releases. Here’s their release from the SF show they performed at a little over a week ago, right after the show I saw.
