Review: Mother Mother live @ Troubadour *high energy hard rock!

May 24th, 2017 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Rock, Music Video, Rock |

5-piece indie rock band Mother Mother surprised the shit out of me with high energy hard rock, getting the whole crowd banging their heads along with the five-piece band. It was a packed house last night at the famous Troubadour in West Hollywood as an equal number of males and females rocked out to Mother Mother.

Each song they performed felt like an epic hard rock ballad, I hope this band can perform in arenas and larger venues because their sound is best suited to be played loud and they will definitely be playing in venues larger than the Troubadour. But for every fan there last night, we were delighted with a long set of hard rocking songs that reminded me of bands like QueenYoungblood Hawke and Coheed & Cambria.

Yes, I mentioned three bands that don’t have much in common but while enjoying Mother Mother‘s set, I felt like they were a mix of rock, with influences of electro, punk and some pop with the harmonies. Many of the songs felt like awesome roller coaster rides of sound, sonically dynamic and exhilarating!

It’s hard to pick a favorite because I enjoyed most of them and sometimes it was hard to hear what they were singing so hard to remember many of them but their new single “Love Stuck” is catchy and probably my favorite. Watch the official video for it below and learn about all the songs Mother Mother played in their set last night! (more…)

Video: Aeroplane & Purple Disco Machine ft. Aloe Blacc – “Counting On Me” *dance

May 13th, 2017 by | Dance, Disco, Electropop, House, Music Video |

Aeroplane Purple Disco Machine got the smooth voice of one of my favorite contemporary singers, Aloe Blacc, as well as a gospel chorus for their latest dance release, “Counting On Me”. This infectious dance track is just what’s needed to turn your party into a dance party and it makes you want to move! It’s a soulful upbeat dance track that reminds me of Disclosure.

Let Aloe Blacc take you higher on “Counting On Me,” below. It’s out Monday, May 15, on Spinnin’ Records.

Review: Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness live at Belasco Theater

May 11th, 2017 by | Miscellaneous |

Last Wednesday I caught alternative pop artist Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness live at Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. He was electrifying hopping on top his grand piano several times, engaging the audience more than I’ve seen most other acts ever do and constantly was moving around and getting down to the music he and his band were playing. It was a great performance that I felt like was never going to end and he did nearly every song I love from him, except “I’m Ready” from his Jack’s Mannequin catalog. But I’ll forgive him for not playing that as he introduced me to many new songs of his that I’m a big fan of now.

My favorites in his set were his latest single, the catchy “Fire Escape”, which he opened with; fun love song “Dead Man’s Dollar”, dance pop song “So Close”, “Synesthesia” which was so beautiful as there were a variety of colorful lights and I just love the song title of this uplifting pop song and most well-known song “Cecilia and the Satellite”. Also, he did a fantastic cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”, getting the opening band Night Riots performing it with his band.

Listen to my favorite songs below! (more…)
