As of yesterday, it was announced that hip-hop superstar Jay-Z will release his newest album next month! It will be called Magna Carta Holy Grail and will be released three days early for all Samsung users (for free). Hova is a pioneer in the hip-hop world and we expect nothing but greatness in this album with lots of collaborations (including Pharrell, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and more). It should be quite an exciting album.

Steven Frumess – “Passion” Video + MP3

April 16th, 2013 by | Alternative/Indie |

Although we haven’t heard from Steven Frumess  in a while, he’s back with a new hit, “Passion”, an awesome track perfect for the chill vibes of Summer coming up.

In this song, Steven seems to be discussing his “love and pleasure” for creating and playing the music he develops. In this video there are three different artistries displayed with the artist’s going through their creative process and expressing their passions for what they love.

He’s put a lot of hard work into making this song and video and it will certainly pay off. I’m hoping to hear more from Steven Frumess in the near future. Enjoy!

Review: Air Dubai & For The Foxes at The Roxy

April 11th, 2013 by | Alternative/Indie, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

Last week we saw Air Dubai and For The Foxes perform at the legendary music venue The Roxy on Sunset Boulevard. For the most part it was a very solid show. However there were a few turn offs.

Air Dubai’s music is great and very cutting edge. I really love their alternative hip-hop vibe. However, their sound system and drummer were way to loud. Therefore it was really tough to hear the singers and gain a full appreciation for the music being played.

If they lowered the sound a little bit and got rid of the drummer, it would be perfect. The drummer should only be used if they ever perform at large festivals and not for small, intimate music venues. If they can fix those things I mentioned above, then their live shows will be taken to a whole other level. Below is my favorite song of theirs that they performed from the night.

Air Dubai – “All Day”:

Next up on stage was For The Foxes. I never heard of them prior to their set and in all honesty, was not much of a fan. The smooth instrumental’s were solid but the main singer seemed like he was trying too hard to be a singer from One Direction. His extremely high voice was just not cutting it for me. Maybe it’s just not my type of music. My favorite track of theirs from the night is below.

For The Foxes – “The Revolution”:

Goldroom, Ghost Beach & Carousel Light Up the Echoplex

November 2nd, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Concert/Festival Review, Electropop, synthpop |

(Pictured Above; Ghost Beach)

Last Thursday, I was blessed to see a great show at the Echoplex in Silverlake. Goldroom, Carousel and Ghost Beach absolutely rocked a packed house full of energetic hipsters. All three have a style each unique in it’s own way.

Originally apart of synth pop trio NightWaves, Goldroom of Los Angeles provided a laid-back disco feel similar to Poolside. It is perfect for the typical Southern California vibe and even though it is not summertime anymore, it sure felt like it when he was on stage. Below is my favorite track of his from the night.

Goldroom – “Morgan’s Bay”:

Brooklyn based electro-pop duo, Carousel will soon become house hold names in the music industry. Their catchy and genuine sound  got the crowd dancing their shoes off. This was the first time I have ever seen them live but certainly not the last. Check out my favorite track of theirs from the night that will surly be getting some radio time soon.

Carousel – “Open Road”:

By far the best performance of the night that I saw was that of Ghost Beach. Hailing from New York City, this tropical grit pop group provides an 80’s rock influence with a modern day alternative rock sound. They were featured on our Best You Never Heard 7: Summer Underdogs mixtape back in August. This group is going places and I look forward to seeing them perform live again. My favorite track of theirs from the night is below.

Ghost Beach – “Tear Us Apart”:

As a whole, this show featured some great electro-pop up-and-comers that are worth taking a closer look. I cannot wait to see how they progress as artists.

Adventure Gallery @TheCentralSAPC

October 6th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Concert/Festival Review, Electropop |

Earlier this week, Portland based Adventure Gallery rocked the night at the renowned, The Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club in Santa Monica.

They have an 80’s rock/pop feel mixed with a modern day electro pop sound. Perfect for the people with 80’s nostalgia looking for a new and fresh sound. This group is small now but has the makings to do some big things down the road. It will be interesting to see how they progress.

Enjoy some of the tracks they performed that night below.

PZB spins the night away @theCentralSAPC

September 27th, 2012 by | Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Dance Music |

Last weekend, DJ PZB once again had a great performance at The Central SAPC in Santa Monica. In his third installment of PZB & Friends, he rocked a packed house with lots of energy and intensity. His tunes were awesome as usual, making this Saturday night even more special.

The Central is always a great venue for music with an awesome atmosphere. PZB always makes it better. His music will surly gain more popularity in the near future. If you missed last Saturday’s show, your in luck as PZB & Friends Present: gLAdiator with Das Tapes, Bear Fight! and Bastille. This is a must-attend show if you like to dance and don’t want over-priced entrance fees for nightclubs in Hollywood that night, especially since gLAdiator is a DJ duo you wouldn’t find at a less expensive venue like The Central. For more info on the next PZB & Friends, visit the facebook event page.

Review: Pacific Festival 2012: The Dunes

September 9th, 2012 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Concert/Festival Review |

Last Sunday, we had the luxury of attending the Pacific Festival at Newport Dunes. This event was very spread out on a beautiful resort with four different stages and a great beach vibe. It was the first year in this part of Newport Beach but certainly not the last. On top of it all, it was an extremely beautiful day. Perfect for an end of the summer fiesta!

The Pacific Festival had a much different atmosphere than your typical music festival (no drug use, somewhat conservative, kind of quiet, reserved etc.). Regardless, it was truly a great experience.

My favorite acts of the day were definitely Capital Cities, Mayer Hawthorne, Wildcat! Wildcat!, Steed Lord, American Royalty and Poolside many more. Take a listen to the best song of each performer’s set. Enjoy!

Capital Cities – “Safe and Sound”:

Mayer Hawthorne – “Held The Hand”:

Wildcat! Wildcat! – “Mr. Quiche”:

SteedLord – “Bed of Needles”:

American Royalty – “Matchstick”:

Poolside – “Take Me Home:”

Music Video: Sammy Adams – “All Night Long”

August 24th, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

Earlier this week, Sammy Adams released his newest music video. It’s for his track “All Night Longer”. The visuals are actually pretty cool, with items being drawn on during a party scene. However, the track is pretty cheesy. I’ve been on the fence with this Boston rapper since I saw him perform at Lollapalooza in 2011. This video is cool though.

Music Video: Yury – “Esoteric”

August 22nd, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

As featured on Best You Never Heard Volume 7: Summer Underdogs, Pittsburgh rapper Yury continues on his grind with a solid music video to his track “Esoteric”. He samples Chief Keef’s “I Don’t Like” featuring Lil Reese. I love that instrumental and Yury’s flow is really legit as well. Also I really dig the vintage Super Mario Bros from Super Nintendo. Brings back some great memories. I see big things from him in the near future.

Enjoy the video! (more…)

The Dean’s List – “Hennessy At Cookouts”

August 21st, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Last night, the Dean’s List gave a new taste of what their style of music will be for their upcoming project, Jerusalem, due to release on September 17th. In all honesty, “Hennessy At Cookouts” is not their best work. I’ve noticed a decline in the quality of their music since The Drive-In released in early 2011.

Though, it’s tough to fully judge what the whole Jerusalem project will be like just from one-track off of it, it’s all I can base my opinion on so far and I hope I hear improvements as new tracks drop in the near future. I’ve been following and supporting this group for over two years now and will continue to support them. I just hope they can create more music similar to their first two mixtapes.
