Hidden Gem: Kandid Mcfly

December 8th, 2010 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Kandid Mcfly is a talented rapper from Cincy. His latest mixtape The Opening Act is flat out great. He keeps delivering solid tracks throughout the whole mixtape. All of his songs feature skilled lyrics and a catchy choruses over his original instrumentals. The whole mixtape flows really well.
‘Stage Fright’, ‘Strung Out’ and ‘The Remedy’ are three of my favorite songs, but the entire album is worth at least a couple listens.

Slow, relaxing beat. The girl’s vocals bring together the solid verses perfectly.
Nice track to just sit back and enjoy.

Prospect of the Week: Curren$y

December 5th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Prospect of the Week |

Curren$y has had a huge year in the underground hip hop scene. After coming out with his first album, Pilot Talk, less than a year ago, he released Pilot Talk 2. With his jazz beats, and skilled flow he brings us a straight up chillin’ listen. His lyrics are all about days we wish we could live, with the better things in life. My favorites from his latest project are Famous, Highed Up, and Michael Knight. Enjoy.

Kids These Days – My Days

This track is way too good. Kids These Days (Facebook) really did take it to a new level. The vocals are great, I’m digging the acoustic, and the saxophone solo is insane.

This is definitely up there with his classic tracks. You get what you can pretty much expect from this rap pioneer. Classy beat, clever lyrics, nice hook.

Hidden Gem: Matt Easton

December 1st, 2010 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Matt Easton from Illinois definitely has the potential as a rapper who makes all of his own music. He has some real cool samples and sweet verses on ‘Don’t Know Why’ and ‘American Woman’. ‘Live Life’ is an absolute hit though, make sure to listen.  Check out his solid mixtape ‘Intro to Public Speaking’.

Check out this brand new single from Fortune Family’s upcoming EP. It’s a real nice sample of Annie Little’s “Fly Me Away and smooth verses from a group I’ve been excited about for some time.  Enjoy! Can’t wait to hear what’s to come from these guys.

Been waiting for this all day. The leaks in the past couple weeks have got me real excited for the leftovers from his previous mixtape, ‘Cuey Sings the Blues’.
My favorites are ‘Story of a Lifetime’, ‘Breathe Me’,  ‘Gotta Move’, and ‘Your Own Supply’. Overall solid mixtape. Enjoy!

Debut mixtape from Arizona up and comer, Zac White. He puts together a nice mix of original beats and samples along with his skilled flow to bring us a pretty sick mixtape. My favorites are ‘The Realness’, ‘Being Me’, ‘Feel My Love’, ‘Paradise’ and ‘Dolla Dolla’.
