The smooth alternative pop singer Jhameel is back with another video. It’s a must-watch if you dig pop and are looking for an artist that has potential to become a huge act.
Shouts to co-director of the video for “White Lie”, Ryan Rubin, for always reaching out with new Jhameel material.
“White Lie” captures Jhameel’s struggle to break off a relationship with a woman that he still cares for. The video has got plenty of Jhameel’s signature dance moves, as well as a solid story line which rewards attention. Watch the video below.
“Wooing the Wooers (or seducing those who seduce us) has been our life’s mission but this does not simply mean fighting the powers that dominate our culture. Our minds are also wooers of themselves and as we grow, our hearts and souls slowly attempt to woo our brains awake.” - Smokey Robotic
Smokey Robotic is preparing for the release of their new album, Hurricane Dove. For the next few months, SB will release selected songs to give the wooers of the world a deep look into themselves.
Video animation for “Woo the Wooers” was produced by visual artist, Rachael Freedman (also worked on “SR” and “HotBrass“), part of the Smokey Robotic art collective extended family.
Don’t listen to “Woo The Wooers” until you watch the video! Both are below.
A sudden decision last Friday night brought me to a warehouse party just past Downtown LA called L.A.M.P. It was put on by PUZL clothing and even though the set up and performers were amazing, overall I was very disappointed.
We were on the list and at first they refused to let us in and demanded we pay $20! Are you kidding me?!?! We eventually got in with no charge to find a large, empty warehouse space with about 30 dudes and 10 girls (maybe). Yeah it was that bad of a ratio.
The warehouse set up was incredible though. It was sheik, trendy and not at all what I expected before arriving. It is clearly used for various types of events such as art galleries, photo sessions, etc. It had a staircase leading up to a nice kitchen and livingro0m area with a bathroom as well. An attractive girl lived in a room downstairs. This place was one of those, “you have to see it to know exactly what I am talking about” kind of thing.
We made the most of our experience however. We enjoyed a couple of drinks and listened to some great tunes. When we arrived, Special Blend of Audible Mainframe was spinning some great chill hip-hop tunes. Shortly after his set electro-pop duo Das Tapes rocked out and with style too. We have seen them on multiple occasions and they always know how to get a party started. Finally, before we decided to call it a night, PZB came on to continue the energetic vibes with a killer set. Below are my favorite tracks by each performer.
DJ Special Blend (DJSB) – “Play It Cool”
Das Tapes – “Black Ferrari”
DJ PZB – “Sophie loves Acid”
The party wasn’t all bad but it could have been so much better. Usually at warehouse parties there are more activities to do than just watch live music. There is typically things like face painting, a photo booth, arcade games… at least that’s what I enjoyed at the last warehouse party I attended, Brokechella.
Instead there was just some mediocre art work on the walls and a few clothing items from PUZL displayed. It was very easy to get bored in between musical sets.
The music was great though. Hopefully the next one won’t be as much of a disappointment.
Alternative pop duo Manicanparty releases their debut music video and it’s sponsored by VEVO! How often do you see that from a brand new artist? Either way, I’m digging “Rebels In The Light” and see Manicanparty really blowing up with the quality of this video.
Why am I saying that b.FUNK can be the next generation’s version of the legendary Roots crew? Not only do I believe that and a couple other hip-hop/alternative band’s (like Zoo Legacy) having that potential, but according to b.FUNK, the B.B. King Club agrees!
But I always believe the music can speak for itself, so here’s b.FUNK‘s (FREE) Check Yo Mind EP.
Wanting more from the hip-hop/alternative rock band? Here’s the music video for EP and upcoming mixtape title track, “Check Yo Mind” below. (more…)
One of my favorite electro-pop duos, DWNTWN, has created a cover to Bruce Springsteen’s hit “I’m On Fire”. I have grown very fond of this group over the last few months and really appreciate how they are able to recreate a classic into their own style so successfully. Expect big things from DWNTWN throughout the rest of this year and beyond!
Wallpaper. is one of those acts that understands the shift in what’s popular in music (dance-pop) but defy it by having lyrics about stuff atypical to most music lyrics like a song about Blake Griffin being one of their latest examples.
Here’s their latest, “Breakfast All Day” which features rapper Action Bronson. Again, they have released a catchy (and FREE) song that we can all enjoy. Listen and download below.
By the way, if you want a song from Wallpaper. that will make you feel great, listen to “FUCKING BEST SONG EVERRR” here.
Road-trips are pretty boring, unless you have a killer soundtrack to invoke sing alongs, dancing and a whole bunch of fun. Antonio Paul‘s latest single ‘Into the Night’ offers just that. The mystical pop number takes you on a magical road-trip that keeps you moving until the very end. The fast paced and drum heavy track is reminiscent of an Australian Two Door Cinema Club.
Before you watch the video to that, stream the song and “Made In China” another favorite of mine. Both tracks are on Antonio Paul‘s latest studio release, End Of The World EP (iTunes).
Watch the music video for ‘Into The Night’ below. (more…)
It’s been awhile since I’ve guest blogged for BeforeBigs but I’m stoked to be back and giving you guys the latest info on one of my favorite rap duos, Kinetics & One Love. I think the reason I dig these guys so much is because they’re more than just rappers: these dudes are straight up ballers. Having met as students at Cornell University and forming a collaboration out of a mutual passion for music, they soon after created the chorus to B.o.B’s smash hit “Airplanes” which reached No. 2 on the iTune’s singles chart just days after its release. Since then, the gifted pair has been consistently turning out songs under the Warner Music Group label that blow my mind both soundwise and lyrically.
In an industry that has become over saturated with all these wannabe’s who spit about how they ball so hard and all I hear is “blah blah blah,” Kinetics & One Love brings something to the stage that is so real and so raw. Their lyrics are deep and from the heart – the gut if you will – and coupled with metaphors that are provocative and make you think about the deeper things in life.
With all that being said, I was beyond stoked when Kinetics & One Love officially released the music video for the orchestral version of their song “Sign Language.” I distinctly remember saying to myself, “this needs to be the future of rap.” The video also features performances by Vita Chambers of Universal Republic Records and the Shattered Glass Chamber Orchestra.
