So I decided the best way to put together all the songs I discovered in August 2015 would be to make an epic playlist dedicated to all those songs. Below is the 60-track playlist which ranges in genre and the popularity of the artist. Read below the playlist to hear my thoughts on several of these artists to keep an eye on. (more…)
This week I had my friend Joel from Lights & Music Entertainment, a concert promoting/music production company that is on the rise with parties in LA, Seattle and Portland. Joel Albers is taking concerts to another level by creating dance-able vibes through indie pop vibes. I attended the last night of 8th Grader’s residency at The Satellite through Joel’s Dance Yrself Clean party in Silverlake and had a fantastic time singing and dancing a bit along to 8th Grader‘s Neo R&B/indie electro pop vibes. We also talk his new showcase, KILLER DISKO, more info here.
Stream the podcast in full above where Joel and I talk not only 8th Grader but we get an exclusive preview of 8th Grader‘s collaboration with TouchTone who Joel calls the most underrated disco producer in LA, new edit from JRocc (of The Knocks) to Tuxedo‘s “Do It”. We got lounge house from PANG, new song from Scarlett Johansson/Este Haim’s The Singles collaboration which is produced by Dave Sitek, new remixes from Shook, Cats Hero, Monsieur Adi and Chimes to songs I absolutely love. Also Joel introduces me to machineheart, plus we close out the show with a feel good electro house pop song from Goldhouse and disco funky vibes from Falcon Punch. Stream most of the tracks played on the podcast on soundcloud below.
On the latest episode of Before the Bigs Music Podcast I got my friend and rapper Kosha Dillz on the show. We talk about his latest song “Tubeshvat Hop”, his upcoming plans including his own showcase at SXSW 2015 and Warped Tour this summer and he even spits a little freestyle for us! For more on Kosha Dillz, visit koshadillzworld.com

Before the Bigs Podcast ep 5
If you don’t want to hear me talk and just want the songs we played on the podcast, stream and download below.
The latest episode of Before the Bigs Music Podcast has me talking about Columbia Records latest emerging artist you need to follow, Leon Bridges, who just released two songs on iTunes this week that we play on the show, “Coming Home” and “Better Man”, another new (and FREE) song from Venice Beach Folk/Electronic band Magic Giant, who are performing with Gavin Turek and Freedom Fry on Valentine’s Day at The Troubadour (purchase tickets here). Speaking of Freedom Fry, we play a deep house remix from Feast to their song “Shaky Ground”. I talk about and play new releases from Vermont’s Argonaut&Wasp, COIN, and FMLYBND. Karl Kling‘s got a new song to be released on his forthcoming debut album.
I even bring my roommate/dance music exper, Sam Aaron, on the show to talk some new dance songs from Body Language, LA beat maker Coyote Kisses, French house/deep house DJ Le Youth, dutch house DJ Funkerman and a new mashup from The Hood Internet. He thought The Hood Internet mashup was from Classixx so I play out the podcast with our favorite Classixx track, “I Get You” featuring Jeppe.
Stream/download the podcast above or if you don’t want to hear what I say about the music, stream the podcast playlist below on Soundcloud and most of the songs I’ve played on all the episodes updated weekly on Spotify.

Last Friday I attended Red Bull Sound Select’s pop-up show for Chuck Inglish‘s record release party for his latest album, Convertibles. It was a great show (read my review here), and I was afforded the opportunity to interview rising LA hip-hop act Thurz before the show as he was opening for Chuck Inglish. Here’s most of what I (@ImZachSE) talked about with Thurz (@Thurzday) before the show.
A festival I had an unforgettable experience at because of the art, the underrated music, the hospitality of event staffers and overall fun in such a local scene was Brokechella 2012. Last year I couldn’t attend because of Coachella and this year personally won’t be able to attend but that doesn’t mean I won’t have awesome friends covering the festival for me while I enjoy Coachella weekend 2.
For those in Southern California that can’t afford Coachella and are into more intimate festival scenes, then Brokechella is for you! With over 50 musicians performing and even comedians this year, it’s sure to be a festival worth going to. For $10, that’s less than 50 cents an artist and you know the people of cARTel know how to throw a super fly dope fun event for all. Now it’s in 4th year, Brokechella is sure to be one of the most talked about and underrated events of the season in Los Angeles and I highly recommend any music and/or comedy fan to check it out as you will have as great a time I did two years ago attending this Downtown LA event.
For more info on Brokechella, visit Brokechella.com and purchase tickets here. Because I’m pretty pumped the event has continued for the 4th year in a row, I’ve created a playlist of 15 artists from Brokechella to look forward to including BtB favorites Azad Right, Warm Brew, Verbs and many more!
