Both DJs were awesome with Go Go Bizkitt spinning that funky disco house vibes all night while The Phantom’s Revenge played mostly disco house with some trap music and some electro vibes. One of my favorite parts of this dance party show was hearing both of the acts remix Daft Punk.

Stream some of my favorite songs from the two rising DJs below.

Goldroom, Ghost Beach & Carousel Light Up the Echoplex

(Pictured Above; Ghost Beach)

Last Thursday, I was blessed to see a great show at the Echoplex in Silverlake. Goldroom, Carousel and Ghost Beach absolutely rocked a packed house full of energetic hipsters. All three have a style each unique in it’s own way.

Originally apart of synth pop trio NightWaves, Goldroom of Los Angeles provided a laid-back disco feel similar to Poolside. It is perfect for the typical Southern California vibe and even though it is not summertime anymore, it sure felt like it when he was on stage. Below is my favorite track of his from the night.

Goldroom – “Morgan’s Bay”:

Brooklyn based electro-pop duo, Carousel will soon become house hold names in the music industry. Their catchy and genuine sound  got the crowd dancing their shoes off. This was the first time I have ever seen them live but certainly not the last. Check out my favorite track of theirs from the night that will surly be getting some radio time soon.

Carousel – “Open Road”:

By far the best performance of the night that I saw was that of Ghost Beach. Hailing from New York City, this tropical grit pop group provides an 80′s rock influence with a modern day alternative rock sound. They were featured on our Best You Never Heard 7: Summer Underdogs mixtape back in August. This group is going places and I look forward to seeing them perform live again. My favorite track of theirs from the night is below.

Ghost Beach – “Tear Us Apart”:

As a whole, this show featured some great electro-pop up-and-comers that are worth taking a closer look. I cannot wait to see how they progress as artists.

Review: Carousel at Abbott Kinney Festival

October 8th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Concert/Festival Review, Electropop, synthpop |

dce53c0410d611e29ed51231381b333c 7 600x600 Review: Carousel at Abbott Kinney FestivalAbbott Kinney Festival is an annual street fest in the Venice Beach area filled with hippies and young socialites. It was my first year going and after getting to see my favorite up-and-coming band out of Boston perform, Carousel, I walked up and down the closed off Abbott Kinney Boulevard and saw tons of herbal medicine booths, a “Vote for Rosanne Barr for President” as part of the Peace and Freedom (and Stoner) party, and tons of other people selling massages, clothing, artwork and other stuff you’d normally find along the Venice Beach boardwalk. There were also a ton of cops, a ton of hipster parents and tons of children.

However I came to Abbott Kinney Festival to see Carousel, an up-and-coming indie/electro-pop trio out of Boston who has a sound similar to Miike Snow and will become a huge mainstream act once they get in some more touring and shoot some videos for their songs, which are all great!

I caught most of Carousel‘s set which the crowd seemed to enjoy even if only a few knew their music and many enjoyed their “Dancing On My Own” Robyn cover (which I hope they release). Stream and download my two favorites I heard them perform.

 Adventure Gallery @TheCentralSAPC

Earlier this week, Portland based Adventure Gallery rocked the night at the renowned, The Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club in Santa Monica.

They have an 80′s rock/pop feel mixed with a modern day electro pop sound. Perfect for the people with 80′s nostalgia looking for a new and fresh sound. This group is small now but has the makings to do some big things down the road. It will be interesting to see how they progress.

Enjoy some of the tracks they performed that night below.

Hidden Gem: Adventure Galley + upcoming show at @TheCentralSAPC

September 27th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Dance, Electro, Electronic Rock, Electropop, Hidden Gem, Music Video, Rock |

oct 1 revised 463x600 Hidden Gem: Adventure Galley + upcoming show at @TheCentralSAPCThe next upcoming indie dance band you need to follow is Oregon indie dance rock band Adventure Galley. I first heard “Weekend Lovers” sometime over the summer but somehow got lost in the shuffle of dance music that I love moving to.

However @BenOprstu contacted me about Adventure Galley doing a show at my favorite Santa Monica music venue next Monday. I watched the “Weekend Lovers” video and realized why I dig their upbeat electro-synth indie rock vibes so he asked me if @BeforeBigs wanted to co-produce the show with From The Hip LA. After watching “Weekend Lovers” and listening to “Marooned” and “Addict”, I knew this was a special band making music they like to call Glow Wave.

To attend this 21+ event at The Central SAPC this upcoming Monday, purchase $8 advance tickets or pay $10 at the door. Now onto some fun music! (more…)

Mashup Monday + Ticket giveaway: Kids & Explosions

September 17th, 2012 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Before Bigs Exclusive, Mashup, Mashup Monday |

Mashup Monday + Ticket giveaway: Kids & ExplosionsWho is Kids & Explosions? K & E is Josh Raskin, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker (I Met the Walrus) turned mash-up artist. His LP Shit Computer offers a collection of some of Raskin’s own favorite tracks, which are reinterpreted and rearranged into glitchy and nostalgia-filled songs (this is his signature strategy). Genres are mixed and numerous samples of various songs turn hybrid in Shit Computer, revealing Raskin’s dexterity in transforming looped layers into tracks that sound fresh and new. Just listen to “Everything”, where he whisks a little of Eminem‘s “Lose It” with Slash’s guitar salute in the GNR classic “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Stream & download Shit Computer below.

If you dig this music and are in the LA area on Wednesday night, see how you can win two tickets to Kids & Explosions at The Central SAPC on 9/19.

More in-depth review: Pacific Festival 2012

562043 417068355006953 271753665 n 600x222 More in depth review: Pacific Festival 2012A couple Sunday’s ago, I attended Pacific Festival 2012: The Dunes, featuring Mayer HawthornePoolsideBag RaidersCapital Cities and much much more vibe out at the Newport Beach Marina. This was my 2nd time attending Pacific Festival and this year they toned it down on worldwide acts (last year Snoop Dogg, Cut Copy, Steve Aoki and Calvin Harris were some notable favorites) but they moved the location away from an isolated area (from Oak Canyon Ranch to Newport Beach) and really created this unique festival vibe on a beach.

While E-Wish’s review was straight to the point, it only covered half the acts we saw and is very simple.  Read my full review below.
