Introducing Los Colognes *tropical smooth fun

February 8th, 2017 by | Alternative/Indie, Ambient, Electropop, Hidden Gem, Pop |

unnamed1 Introducing Los Colognes *tropical smooth funNashville-based Los Colognes have just announced their third album The Wave, out May 12th via Big Deal Media / Thirty Tigers. Last month they released the first track “Flying Apart,” which has such a tropical smooth sound I’m hooked on! The band has a run of shows in the US, including opening slots for St. Paul and the Broken Bones and an appearance at Sasquatch Festival.

Guitarist/singer Jay Rutherford opines in “Flying Apart” – ‘Nobody believed / We’re all just hoping / Floating down streams.” It’s a song that invokes “the wave” metaphor of the album’s title, while churning through its own sonic sea of shimmering keyboards and guitars anchored by drummer Aaron Mortenson. The music evokes any of the best moments of late seventies or mid eighties FM radio while never being weighed down by the specter of influence. Los Colognes are a young band who have managed to forge their own sound while channeling the best sonic worlds of the decades past.

Stream “Flying Apart” below and find out more info on the upcoming album and Los Colognes upcoming tour dates!

Unlike the live approach used to record the group’s previous records, The Wave was built from the ground up with attention to each part. There is a certain economy of space in the songs that feel’s deliberate, while never ceasing to be warm and inclusive. Guitar and keyboard lines drift off each other in between lyrical exchanges while Mortenson propels the beat, sometimes meditative, sometimes driving.
The journey to finish recording The Wave was its own quest for Rutherford and Mortenson, a more deliberate process of creation and craft that shows a band becoming fully aware of its voice and its vision. Los Colognes have given us a singular collection of quietly anthemic tunes held together by philosophical reflection and damn fine rock and roll chops. The Wave is coming.
The Wave is out May 12th, preorder the album HERE.

Joel Albers is taking concerts to another level by creating dance-able vibes through indie pop vibes. I attended the last night of 8th Grader’s residency at The Satellite through Joel’s Dance Yrself Clean party in Silverlake and had a fantastic time singing and dancing a bit along to 8th Grader‘s Neo R&B/indie electro pop vibes. We also talk his new showcase, KILLER DISKO, more info here.

The Icelandic hipsters were out in full force supporting Iceland band Steed Lord and although it wasn’t the largest crowd until the headliner Steed Lord got everybody dancing, it was still a fun show filled with new songs I have come to enjoy.

Review: Com Truise at Echoplex

March 10th, 2014 by | Ambient, Concert/Festival Review, Dance, Electro |

74c58908a3f611e39afc122e3f5a0d70 8 600x600 Review: Com Truise at EchoplexA couple Friday’s ago I saw Com Truise at Echoplex. This show felt like being in the game Tron but with drugs like speed and cocaine to enhance your skills in the game. It was almost surreal, especially since Com Truise had the lights going in accordance to the beats he was making; truly a sweet show to be at although some vocals would be nice. I really enjoyed all of it as the music puts you in a trance to dance and feels great but I would love some damn vocalist on stage with Com Truise, that would make things really interesting.

Anyways it’s tough to pick a favorite but the most memorable was probably “Brokendate”. Watch the interesting video for that song below.

Cemeteries to release LP just in time for Halloween

October 2nd, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Ambient, Electropop, Pop, synthpop |

Cemeteries to release LP just in time for Halloween
Mr. Kyle J. Reigle otherwise known as Cemeteries will soon be on the same level as Youth Lagoon and other artists like How to Dress Well and Neon Indian as he has joined Lefse Records and will be releasing his new album The Wilderness on October 23.

Cemeteries is goth-pop minus black eyeliner and capes. Reigle looked to vintage horror films for tenderness for inspiration. The Wilderness is a dancing death knell of arresting funereal organs and chilling synths.

Cemeteries is the somewhat depressing yet mildly hopeful ambiance playing over the radio while driving through the woods. It is a comfort. A whisper. A chill.

Recorded in six months in the spare room of Reigle’s apartment, The Wilderness seeks comfort in the unknown of the woods after determining the evil once kept there has followed us to the city. Cemeteries explores a curiosity in darkness that poses the question, “what if it’s safer out there among the owls and coyotes?”

Download: Futurecop! – Till Eternity (I Miss You) *dreamwave

August 20th, 2012 by | Ambient, New Wave, synthpop |

futurecop Download: Futurecop! Till Eternity (I Miss You) *dreamwaveHere’s some dream-wave from Futurecop! who are one of my favorite up-and-coming synth-pop duo’s and probably my favorite coming out of the UK. Warning: this track may put you in a peaceful sleep and have you dreaming about flying with the whole world dancing and cheering because of how amazing it is to see you flying.

This is really random, but I wish Futurecop! did the soundtrack for The Never Ending Story. Please share this blog post if you agree!
