The dynamic duo Shav & Mentos just never stop! Today the duo released their last third single today entitled “1970.” Thirty seconds in and I was already hooked. “1970″ is a reggae track with a real powerful message. The track features live trumpet from Billy Krebsbach and a smooth steel drum played by Mentos’s father. I have yet to be disapointed by one of their tracks. These two truly have a bright future in store for them.
Here’s another new song from them, “Doubt & Desire”.
On May 13th arguably one of the best mixtapes of 2012 dropped. Eighteen year-old Fort Lauderdale local, Hi-Rez, recently dropped his newest mixtape “The Window“. The tape is entitled ‘The Window” because it is Hi-Rez’s most lyrical project up to date.
The Window symbolizes the outlet Hi-Rez has created for his fans to interpret his life through his music. If you have never heard of Hi-Rez I highly recommend this tape. Rez tuly inspires me through his music, expect to see this man making big moves in the near future. Make sure to subscribe to his YouTube and follow him on Twitter (@ImHiRez) for the newest visuals off “The Window”. Stream and DOWNLOAD mixtape below.
Here’s a song that I immediately fell in love with the instrumental and then realized that’s because it samples Skrillex. Regardless of knowing that, I’m still a huge fan of “Spring Fever”, the latest single off of Chuck Revere‘s debut mixtape ”Better Late Than Never” that is set to drop this summer. The beat is by Chucks producer SkylR and samples Skrillex’s “With You, Friends”.
If there’s nothing I love more, it’s collaboration. Especially when one of my fave rappers gets with another talented rapper and produces something WORTH listening to. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the future of of rap is here. It’s happening right now, kids. Bye bye to all the rappers with limited vocabularies, overinflated egos, and absolutely nothing to show for all their big talk. Essentially, anybody can get up on stage and throw around a few cuss words and call themselves a hustler but can you tell a STORY? A story that’s real, asks deep questions, challenges social norms, empathizes with what it’s like to be a struggling human being?
Enter Dylan Owen, a 20 year old up and comer from Goshen,New York.
The story gets better. This kid got with Jeremy Dussoliet from my all time fave rap duo, Kinetics & One Love, and cranked out a video that, after watching it more than a few times, gave me a feeling in my gut that I was witnessing the game of rap on the brink of a complete 180. These guys are telling stories that are relevant – they’re making rap MATTER.
The combination of Owen’s fast-paced, go-hard delivery with Dussoliet’s (a.k.a. Kinetics) gritty, no-nonsense, straight-from-the-gut story telling in this video is unreal. Watch “In The Corner” below.
BEDROC is a hip-hop group out of Rochester, NY. I was introduced to their music through BenniB‘s manager and after hearing “iParty” featuring BenniB, I downloaded their last mixtape, Bored of Eductation and realized this is a legit hip-hop group to follow!
Listen and downloadBored of Education. My four favorites include “Take Me Home Tonight”, “iParty”, “Summer Girl”, and “Time Of Your Life”.

Sam Lachowis a super underrated artist whose talent has yet to be heard by many. Sam released the video for his song “Got Soul” in April. Sam is truly a jack of all trades having experience as a producer, songwriter, rapper, videographer, director, and editor of video and music.
He is currently promoting the release of his debut album “Brand New Bike” and his new EP “Avenue Music”, which are both available for free stream/download on samlachow.com! Expect to see Sam at the top of the game in no time, but for now enjoy my favorite track from Sam Lachow “Got Soul” (Ft. Ariana DeBoo) below. (more…)
Here’s a 50-minute mix from Sir CharLes that is a mix of hip-hop and house but is much more than that when you start getting into it. Watch out for the banging original music this dude’s going to release!
Here’s the latest song from hip-hop/rock band b.FUNK, “The Campaign”. It’s got a slick rock vibe with some hip-hop vocalism. I love when hip-hop can be mixed with other elements like rock or electronic and this is another example of that, but more on the raw rock band style.
“The Campaign” will be off b.FUNK‘s upcoming mixtape, Check Yo Mind, due out real soon.
Sometimes fate is in your favor. Fate was in the favor of Keshav Garg and Aaron Mentos. The two were roomed together at Colgate University, and almost instantly the music began being made.
The two freshman, known as Shav & Mentos, recorded a five song EP titled “Circus Room” in their first year together, which is scheduled to be released Thursday May 17. Their single “Carelessly” was written on their first night together. The duo has a mix of superb singing and excellent guitar blended with a chill bass and a great Hip-hop flow.
Listen and download their single “Carelessly”.
