The latest episode of Before the Bigs Music Podcast has me talking about Columbia Records latest emerging artist you need to follow, Leon Bridges, who just released two songs on iTunes this week that we play on the show, “Coming Home” and “Better Man”, another new (and FREE) song from Venice Beach Folk/Electronic band Magic Giant, who are performing with Gavin Turek and Freedom Fry on Valentine’s Day at The Troubadour (purchase tickets here). Speaking of Freedom Fry, we play a deep house remix from Feast to their song “Shaky Ground”. I talk about and play new releases from Vermont’s Argonaut&Wasp, COIN, and FMLYBND. Karl Kling‘s got a new song to be released on his forthcoming debut album.
I even bring my roommate/dance music exper, Sam Aaron, on the show to talk some new dance songs from Body Language, LA beat maker Coyote Kisses, French house/deep house DJ Le Youth, dutch house DJ Funkerman and a new mashup from The Hood Internet. He thought The Hood Internet mashup was from Classixx so I play out the podcast with our favorite Classixx track, “I Get You” featuring Jeppe.
Stream/download the podcast above or if you don’t want to hear what I say about the music, stream the podcast playlist below on Soundcloud and most of the songs I’ve played on all the episodes updated weekly on Spotify.
One of my favorite up-and-coming producer, Xaphoon Jones (one half of Chiddy Bang) has released his latest solo full-length project, Xaphoon Jones Vol. 3 (DOWNLOAD). It’s 16-tracks remixed, produced and mashed up by Xaphoon and it’s a must-download for the hip-hop and beat heads.
Who is Kids & Explosions? K & E is Josh Raskin, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker (I Met the Walrus) turned mash-up artist. His LP Shit Computer offers a collection of some of Raskin’s own favorite tracks, which are reinterpreted and rearranged into glitchy and nostalgia-filled songs (this is his signature strategy). Genres are mixed and numerous samples of various songs turn hybrid in Shit Computer, revealing Raskin’s dexterity in transforming looped layers into tracks that sound fresh and new. Just listen to “Everything”, where he whisks a little of Eminem‘s “Lose It” with Slash’s guitar salute in the GNR classic “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Stream & download Shit Computer below.
My 2nd favorite musician whose name ends in a Z, PAZ, just released a mashup mixtape that with Coldplay, Skrillex, Avicii, Swedish House Mafia and many more!
Stream and download the 53-minute mashtape called “Loud No!ses” below.
I am proud to bring to you my newest work, The Invasion EP. The EP consists of 8 tracks that I prepared for my DC Invasion this upcoming week. The tracks on the album are ones that not only remind me of DC but remind DC of me. Either the beats or the vocals in some way will trigger a great memory of DC for all the great people that have seen me spin here. Keep reading for the tracklist. ENJOY!!

DJSB, better known as Special Blend of Audible Mainframe released this summer mix a few weeks back. Bump this for good vibes and share it at your next party this summer. “Endless Summer Vol. 1” features a mix of all types of hip-hop over some light dance electro vibes and awesome hip-hop bass lines to create a smooth sound.
My buddy Bert just sent me over his newest track; a vocal edit that he worked on with Swedish producer Strömberg. Using some great vocals from the original track as well as integrating vocals from Axwell’s ‘Open Your Heart’ this is a great progressive house banger. Listen & Download Below!
Last Friday, I attended my favorite music venue in Santa Monica, The Central SAPC, for a dj set from mashup duo, The Hood Internet. However, only 1 member of The Hood Internet spun, STV SLV as I experience when I saw them last time as well.
Even with 1 dude spinning, Hood Internet took over the event, with people cramming in the main room of the venue to dance to their indie-electronic/hip-hop mashups. Hood Internet spun for over an hour and he didn’t just press play like I saw White Panda, Steve Aoki and many other DJs do.
Hood Internet also had rapper Kenan Bell come on stage for an original track they worked on together so it was nice to see that Hood Internet has diversified their music with remixes and originals added to the live set with the mashups.
My 3 favorites from the night although I love all their mashups live, truly a fun dance party!
The Nova Scotia producer had his breakout moment a few months ago, producing the 22-minute opus to pimping, Hyperbolic Chamber Music, curated by Brooklyn clothing designer, Mishka. The beat is reminiscent of cheesy-1980’s smooth R&B, but there is nothing actually cheesy about the track. The Hemsworth beat with 20+ underground rappers on it makes for the perfect extended mix to drive to the beach with the windows down. My friends and I and have been doing it at least once a week.
With the theme of summer in mind, Hemsworth just dropped his latest mixtape, the aptly-titled, Slowed Summer. While being more of just a mash-up mix than HCM, Slowed Summer brings the chill vibes (and some Ludacris samples!!!).
