So I decided the best way to put together all the songs I discovered in August 2015 would be to make an epic playlist dedicated to all those songs. Below is the 60-track playlist which ranges in genre and the popularity of the artist. Read below the playlist to hear my thoughts on several of these artists to keep an eye on. (more…)
This week I had my friend Joel from Lights & Music Entertainment, a concert promoting/music production company that is on the rise with parties in LA, Seattle and Portland. Joel Albers is taking concerts to another level by creating dance-able vibes through indie pop vibes. I attended the last night of 8th Grader’s residency at The Satellite through Joel’s Dance Yrself Clean party in Silverlake and had a fantastic time singing and dancing a bit along to 8th Grader‘s Neo R&B/indie electro pop vibes. We also talk his new showcase, KILLER DISKO, more info here.
Stream the podcast in full above where Joel and I talk not only 8th Grader but we get an exclusive preview of 8th Grader‘s collaboration with TouchTone who Joel calls the most underrated disco producer in LA, new edit from JRocc (of The Knocks) to Tuxedo‘s “Do It”. We got lounge house from PANG, new song from Scarlett Johansson/Este Haim’s The Singles collaboration which is produced by Dave Sitek, new remixes from Shook, Cats Hero, Monsieur Adi and Chimes to songs I absolutely love. Also Joel introduces me to machineheart, plus we close out the show with a feel good electro house pop song from Goldhouse and disco funky vibes from Falcon Punch. Stream most of the tracks played on the podcast on soundcloud below.
Episode 3 of the Before the Bigs Podcast Episode 3 is out and this time I got my man Brandon from TheBurningEar.com and Blind Date LA on the show as we discuss the final Blind Date LA show which featured Buffalo indie pop band Royal Tongues, indie rockers Brown Shoe, new indie alternative pop band Saturn City, and psychedelic electronic alternative duo Waterbed (formerly MVSCLES). We also play and discuss new releases from Body Language, Lenno, Client Liaison, PHONY PPL, Walla, Freedom Fry and Toro Y Moi. Also new album releases from Houndmouth and Milo Greene.

Got three fairly new covers for you from three very different artists. Listen below to Glass Animals cover Kanye West‘s “Love Lockdown”, BASECAMP cover 90′s Swedish pop group Ace of Base “All That She Wants”, rising electro pop band CHVRCHES cover Arctic Monkeys “Do I Wanna Know” and Bear Mountain cover 80′s band Tears For Fears “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”.
I’m a big fan of The Griswolds and their label, Wind-Up Records; also becoming a big fan of Magic Man who are just as talented remixing dope indie songs as they are making original indie electro synth pop jams. Well the two bands came together with Magic Man remixing “Mississippi” from The Griswolds. I still like the original more but this is a laid back remix that will get hipsters to unfold their arms and dance a little bit. Enjoy the video to “Mississippi” (Magic Man Remix) below. (more…)
The Ranch is an epic live music benefit party, nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains of Los Angeles. In the spirit of the music scenes that came together in LA’s canyons, The Ranch Party allows you to come camp out at the top of Mulholland Drive for a full day & night of LA bands, Artists, DJs, food and drinks. The one-day festival takes place Saturday, music starting at 2pm and goes through the whole night with many emerging acts we are big fans. I’m most looking forward to seeing The Internet (of OFWGKTA), Mansions On The Moon, the drummer from Miami Horror (Good Night Keaton), Tropicool and Zak Waters.
For more details on the event, RSVP on facebook and visit TheRanchParty.com. It’s the best value concert coming up in LA as you can enjoy over 20 musicians in an all-day and night event for as little as $40 ($50 if you decide you want to camp out).
Here’s a 10-track playlist of the songs I can’t wait to hear live at The Ranch.
The playlist above doesn’t even include the chill summer vibes I expect Tropicool to spin, the electro house from Bones, and the trap from Neo Fresco.

If there’s two music acts indie pop acts I’m intrigued by and want to see live, it’s St. Lucia and Pacific Air. With this remix, you get the best of both worlds, combining both their upbeat fun indie electro pop vibes to create a fun indie dance remix.
Stream and download St. Lucia‘s “All Eyes On You” (Pacific Air remix) below.
