Review: Walk The Moon, Saint Motel and Holychild at The Greek Theatre

November 3rd, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Rock, Electropop, New Wave, Pop, Rock, synthpop |

The best concert I attended this year was seeing Walk The Moon, Saint Motel and a bit of HOLYCHILD live at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. It was an incredible show mostly because of Walk The Moon, Saint Motel and the perfect weather at the magical outdoor intimate venue of The Greek, where almost a full moon led to an incredible night of catchy tunes.

Review: Con Bro Chill, Magic Giant and Monogem at The Troubadour

October 22nd, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Electropop, synthpop |

Last night I was fortunate enough to get put on the guest list to cover indie electronic folk band Magic Giant who combine the harmonic grassroots elements of folk with some dubstep-type beats in parts of some of their songs. But what makes Magic Giant really stick out is there high energy performances from each member for the 4-piece band. This was my 4th time seeing them live, the first time over a year ago at the first ever (and best) Daybreaker LA when not only did they perform but Eric Sharp played the best morning dance set ever. Listen to that set in the morning and it will bring you the best vibes to start your day. Anyways I’m getting off topic. Below is my review of the show in which I saw Monogem perform a couple songs, Magic Giant perform about 6 songs including an Outkast “Hey Ya” cover and Con Bro Chill bring their neon lights party that maybe showed me what partying in the 80’s was like as every song they performed was about partying.

Review: Hozier at the Theatre at Ace Hotel *great band, great voice

October 22nd, 2015 by | Concert/Festival Review, Music Video, Pop, Rock |

Hozier is not the best musician I’ve seen live but he is a crowd pleaser, get’s everybody involved in singing along to his tunes and has a great band backing a great voice. I had the pleasure of getting on the guest list for Live From The Artists Den production of Hozier live at Ace Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles. Hozier performed over 12 songs including an Ariana Grande cover which turned into a mashup with Warren G’s “Regulate”, it was really awesome to sing along to. Also his pleasant cover of Paul McCartney’s “Blackbird” was beautiful as were his original songs from the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter. He was magical on stage and I recommend seeing Hozier live. (more…)

Review: Jeremy Loops and Brick + Mortar live at The Roxy

October 15th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Drum & Bass, Pop, Rock |

Last night I got to catch two artists I’ve never seen or really dug deep into to be quite honest. However after the show, I left a huge fan, scanning the internet for as much of their material as possible as Brick + Mortar and Jeremy Loops were two incredible bands that got the party started on hump day last night at The Roxy in West Hollywood. This was the first night of their tour together and both DIY artists really impressed the young millennial audience by crafting jams that were hand-clapping, raise your fist in the air pop/rock fun. Review: Freedom Fry, Run River North, The Colourist and The Bird And The Bee live in Pasadena

October 13th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Electropop, Pop, Rock |

Last Saturday I attended the Taste of South Lake Festival in South Pasadena, California, seeing Freedom FryRun River NorthThe Colourist and The Bird and The Bee for FREE at this community music and food festival that supports local Pasadena businesses.

Not only did I eat delicious local cuisine food that cost little nothing and have a few free samples but I got to sing and dance along to some of my favorite up and coming acts and see The Bird And The Bee live which was pretty fun. Here’s my review. (more…)

Review: Years & Years and Tei Shi live at The Wiltern

October 5th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Dance, Electropop, Pop, R&B |

Last Wednesday I went to The Wiltern to see Tei Shi and Years & Years live at The Wiltern. It was a great show and mostly worth the price of admission as Years & Years was incredible and Tei Shi was pretty decent in getting the crowd in the right mood for the sold out show. Read more for my review.

Review: Spirit Animal at Bootleg Theater *emerging alt-rock band

September 29th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Rock |

Last night I caught alternative rock n roll band Spirit Animal at The Bootleg Bar in Los Angeles. It was a free show and it was totally worth it seeing this emerging band who I think will be on a local radio station by the end of 2015 or sometime in 2016. Their latest song, “Regular World” which they should have finished with, is a radio-friendly upbeat rock song that has some catchy rock vibes that I can see on a KROQ Locals Only playlist. I also loved when they played “Party In The Back” which is an upbeat electro rock vibe and “The Black Jack White” is an excellent dance rock track that can make you feel wild. The lead singer and the band has great energy, even having some simple choreographed dance moves during some of their tunes and really engaging the audience as the lead singer is a wild man on stage, a plus for getting the crowd into your music!

Their upbeat style reminds me of the funkiness of Jack White made a baby with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Stream “Regular World” and “Party In The Back” below.

Follow Spirit Animal on facebook if you like them.

Review: Body Language live at The Satellite

September 29th, 2015 by | Concert/Festival Review, Dance, Disco, Electropop, synthpop |

Last Saturday night, after attending Tarfest (review here) and going out to dinner in K-Town, we arrived at Dance Yourself Clean at The Satellite to see Powers  and Body Language. We ended up seeing only Body Language and the fantastic Dance Yourself Clean DJs spinning indie dance pop tunes but what a wonderful show it was. Here’s my review of Body Language.

Review: Tarfest 2015 with Gavin Turek and The Shelters

September 28th, 2015 by | Concert/Festival Review, Disco, Electropop, Pop, Rock |

Last Saturday I caught two shows in one day. The first show I went to was a mini-festival free at La Brea Tar Pits called Tarfest. It was the 13th Annual Tarfest and this year they had sexy singer/dancer Gavin Turek headline and emerging psychedelic rock band The Shelters perform before her. We caught these two acts and they were both delightful to the diverse all-ages crowd. It was truly a fun experience going to Tarfest and seeing these two acts so let’s get to my review of them. Review: Tune-Yards at Santa Monica Pier *Must-see band

September 17th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review |

Last Thursday for the final Twilight Concert Series show at Santa Monica Pier, I saw Tune-Yards bring their best under the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. Tune-Yards dazzled the crowd with upbeat yet unusual beats, weird instrumentals and overall some fun almost ritualistic music that really drew the crowd in to have odd dances. It was a lot of fun watching Tune-Yards perform live and near the last few songs, they all got on percussions and really jammed out drum-style, which I really loved as it got even more people dancing. However this group would be best viewed in doors with a better sound system so if you missed this show no worries, catch them live soon though, they are a MUST-SEE band!

Below are my three favorite songs I heard them perform. (more…)
