Hidden Gem: Airpark *Groove-heavy rock/pop

March 6th, 2017 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Alternative/Indie, Pop, Rock |

Nashville-based alternative rock/pop duo Airpark released their debut track “All The Time” and I was hooked on them. Inspired by minimalism, melody and groove-heavy percussion, bandmates Michael Ford, Jr. and Ben Ford launched the group in 2016, one year after their previous project The Apache Relay quietly called it quits.

Stream “All The Time” below. It’s off Airpark‘s first EP Early Works, Volume 1, out now via Eugenia Hall Records. In fact, stream the four-track EP, it’s pretty good!

Below find a bio on Airpark, links to follow them, and upcoming tour dates.

Hidden Gem: The Yugos *infectious quirky lo-fi pop/rock

February 23rd, 2017 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Pop, Rock |

Cincinnati based band The Yugos will release their album Weighing the Heart on March 10th via Old Flame Records. When I heard their song “Ingenue” back in early February, I was hooked! I can’t wait for their album as I think this band has influences from bands like The Talking Heads, The Psychadelic Furs and The Cure. You might not love it on your first listen but once you listen again, you won’t want to stop as it’s got this dark infectious lo-fi rock/pop vibe that sounds fresh!

Stream “Ingenue” below.

If you like that listen to “Steve French” and “Take Some Time” below. (more…)

Video: Faulkner – “Revolutionary” *catchy rock-pop

February 2nd, 2017 by | Alternative/Indie, Music Video, Rock |

I had heard of Faulkner doing shows in LA but never pursued it as I didn’t know much about them. However, when their team sent “Revolutionary” over, I knew I had to write about this rock-pop track which is getting quite the buzz for an independent artist.

The bicoastal four piece have been getting a ton of love for their newest single, “Revolutionary” (off their debut album “REVANCHIST”) which is everything you could ever want from a grunge infused pop-rock track. The song has been even been featured on iconic L.A. radio station KROQ and has well over two million views on YouTube.

I caught them do a 5-6 song exclusive set in Hollywood, performing a track that will be with a fairly big rapper later this year (sorry I can’t reveal) and a couple others tracks there were quite catchy. They have a good stage presence and hopefully will get some tour dates going so they can gain further exposure.

Watch the music video for “Revolutionary” below. (more…)

November 21st, 2016 by | Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Music Video, Rock |

So I’m honored to share that I attended my first “country” concert as I saw alternative/folk country artist, Sturgill Simpson slay at The Wiltern last Wednesday! Even though he is considered a country music artist, he jammed out for over 2 hours performing large chunks of his discography which includes covers to Led Zepellin, The Allman Brothers, Nirvana and much more!

As my first so-called “country” concert there’s some things I need to share with you about it below.

Review: Judah & The Lion at The Troubadour *high energy

October 5th, 2016 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Rock |

Last week I saw alternative folk rock band Judah & The Lion tear the roof off with amazing energy at The Troubadour in West Hollywood. It was a great show not only because we were front row and got high-fives from the band, but they were a lot of fun live. For the songs I didn’t know, I learned fast with catchy hooks that they encouraged the crowd to sing along with. And for the songs I knew, I enjoyed the crap out of them, singing, jumping and hollering at all the fun energy they were putting out on stage at the famous Troubadour. It was one of the best shows I’ve seen there and I highly recommend catching this indie band live, they are from Nashville so you know they can jam!

Here’s “Kickin’ The Leaves” which they opened with, and their single “Take It All Back” off their new album Folk Hop N Roll, produced by Dave Cobb. Look up Dave Cobb, the other artists he’s produced have gone onto win awards and are all great acts, Judah & The Lion deserves the same exposure and credit for being really fun nice dudes and awesome live.

Young Creatures Live at The Bootleg Bar

November 19th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Rock |

Last night I watched indie psychedelic rock band Young Creatures entertain us with some tracks at their show at The Bootleg Bar. I thought they started the set off strong with some of their more memorable tracks like “Give Me A Reason” and “Fear All The Things”. This is a quality band to see in LA, I hope they  can open for some really big psych rock band to give them more exposure.

Listen to their album below, the first two tracks are my favorites.

Review: Walk The Moon, Saint Motel and Holychild at The Greek Theatre

November 3rd, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Rock, Electropop, New Wave, Pop, Rock, synthpop |

The best concert I attended this year was seeing Walk The Moon, Saint Motel and a bit of HOLYCHILD live at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. It was an incredible show mostly because of Walk The Moon, Saint Motel and the perfect weather at the magical outdoor intimate venue of The Greek, where almost a full moon led to an incredible night of catchy tunes.
