Introducing Dj OnLii1 *House music bootlegs/mixes

October 21st, 2011 by | Daily Mix, Electro, House, Remix |

So our Director of Business Development, MikeRips, told us about Dj OnLii1 through a buddy of his that works with the Brooklyn house music DJ. He has mostly banging continuous mixes but lately has been putting out a bunch of bootlegs. Bootlegs are basically a few songs re-mixed into one, almost like a mashup but less fluid and more for raging to.

Here’s our three latest favorites from Dj OnLii1.

Chapin Herman, sent me this video last week. He directed it and he did an awesome job at it. Not to mention the great work that the performs did to making the covers to Skrillex, Adele, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

This is the first episode of FluxCity TV’s Summer Sessions and hopefully not the last. This is a very talented bunch and I look forward to more videos by them. Enjoy!

White Panda Wednesday *3 new mashups!

August 10th, 2011 by | Dance, Mashup |

Three new mashups from The White Panda that were released within the last month so I decided today is “White Panda Wednesday”. Ready for some hump-day raging to party mashups. First we got “Deep In The Levels” which pits Avicii‘s instrumentals to “Levels” with Adele‘s hit “Rolling In The Deep”.
Deep in the Levels by whitepandamusic
Next is a song that features Ke$ha vocals… wait can you really call them Ke$ha vocals, personally I see her at the Rebecca Black level of talent. Anyways, White Panda mixes Ke$ha over some Coyote Kisses for another upbeat banging mashup. They made a music video for “Lazerblow”, which you can check out at the bottom of the post. Download
Lazerblow by whitepandamusic
Lastly comes “Children of the Lights” with takes Ellie Goulding‘s lyrics to you guessed it “Lights”. Instrumentals from Robert Miles and Dave Darell. Love how this mashup really picks up and has an almost epic drop in it.

Gilbere Forte update *hip-hop, R&B, remix, cover & more!

June 7th, 2011 by | Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B, Remix |

I hate doing these posts but there’s so much new Gilbere Forte music that has dropped within the last few months that we haven’t blogged about yet. I guarantee there’s at least 1-2 tracks you haven’t heard yet and hopefully a few you really enjoy.

First song is produced by Swizz Beatz and has Forte and Eve on the track. It’s called “Everyday (Coolin’)” and I mostly like it because of the weird beat. Can I listen to this song more than a few times? Probably not. However it’s a decent song worth a couple listens.

Here’s an R&B cover/remix with Mateo on vocals to Kanye West‘s “Runaway” and featuring Gilbere rapping. I’m a fan of how the song opens with the vocals and piano, then slowly builds into something special. Must-download!

Adele and Gilbere Forte collaboration! Another piano smooth beat, smooth rapping from Forte as usual, then the powerful vocal hook from Adele. This version of the song should be on the radio!

Ending the post with the same song from Gilbere Forte however it’s two different remixes. First is from DJ Benzi and has a nice dance feel. 2nd remix which is by Bob Sinclar, is a little more simple, yet doesn’t take away much of the song’s vocals, has a sick dance beat and features more rapping, which is dope.

DJ BAHLER – Let Go (BtB/Free The Snares exclusive)

May 25th, 2011 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Mashup |

DJ BAHLER is back with another one, as he has given Before the Bigs an exclusive sneak peak with two tracks from his upcoming mashup mixtape, Free The Snares, dropping June 1st. Above we got a preview of the cover art, which we will be releasing later this week with another song. However, tonight we bring you one of the best hip-hop lyrical mashups from DJ BAHLER, “Let Go (Parisian Nightsuit)”.

“Let Go” shows improvement as the mashup sounds more like a remix with the complexity of his samples. I like that DJ BAHLER‘s mashup skills have advanced where he’s making more than just A vs B mashups. This is already one of my favorite mashups from DJ BAHLER because it sounds so natural.

DJ Bahler – Let Go (Parisian Nightsuit)

If you are curious, the samples includes Childish Gambino‘s “Freaks and Geeks”, Kanye West – Power (Paper Diamond Remix), Kanye West – Power, Continent Number 6 – Afromerica, Muse “Exogenesis Symphony Part 2” and Adele‘s – “Rolling In The Deep”.

Covers *Aloe Blacc, Bad Rabbits, Collin McLoughlin, John Legend, Adele

May 8th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop, R&B, Remix, Rock |

I have been pushing this back and continually forgetting about doing a covers post. Well know I got too many covers to post, so here’s five that have come out within the last few months worth listening to. Above is a picture of Bad Rabbits who recently embarked on a “Cover Sessions” feature. Below is the third cover in their series.

Aloe Blacc decided to do a cover/mashup with my favorite Jay-Z song, “99 Problems” with Kanye West‘s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”. Aloe Blacc is hands-down one of the best up-and-coming R&B/soul artists and I love his vocals in this, giving the song a retro soul feel. It’s ironic because each of these originals sample retro funk/soul material.
Aloe Blacc – 99 Problems x Can’t Tell Me Nothing
Next my favorite genre-blending funk, pop, R&B, rock band, Bad Rabbits, cover one of Smashing Pumpkins greatest songs and one of those songs I hate to hear on a Sunday because it reminds me of a new work week, much like any Bush song. Loving the instrumentals, vocals are better than I expected, personally I enjoy the cover more than the original.
Bad Rabbits – 1979
For some reason Collin McLoughlin is putting out more remixes/covers than originals which is cool but I want to see more originality before declaring me being a bigger fan of him than say Mike Posner. Here Collin cover’s Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean‘s “Nature Feels” which samples MGMT’s “Electric Feel”. When your doing a song over MGMT instrumentals, there’s a real good chance the song is going to be fantastic.
Collin McLoughlin – Nature Feels
Probably have all heard this but if you haven’t downloaded this yet, here’s John Legend‘s cover of Adele‘s “Rolling In The Deep”. Love how John Legend uses hardly anything to support his powerful vocals.
John Legend – Rolling In The Deep
And on that note, let’s finish today’s covers with Adele‘s cover of The Strokes first mainstream hit, “Last Nite”. I still prefer the original, but this is still really good as Adele is one of the most under-appreciated musicians out there.
Adele – Last Nite

Electronic Tuesdays *Shapes of Light, Jamie XX, Dan Castro

April 26th, 2011 by | Dance, Dubstep, Electronic Tuesday |

Finals are coming up, the college world is a mess, and we’re all trying to make it in this rat race. So! Without further ado (read: before I go to the library!)…

Last night, I went to a Wolfgang Gartner concert, an American producer and DJ who was actually nominated for a Grammy! I was pleasantly surprised at his opening acts. Of course, Hot Pink Delorean has been an up and coming name (a dance music trio from Boston), but there were other DJs who threw down. In honor of them and the producers trying to make it in this world, I present the following…

Shapes of Light is an up and coming duo made up of AJB and NRL. They’re from Boston, and recently came in 2nd place in a remix competition held by Together Boston (legit – the remix was “My Favourite”). They’ve got a lot of stuff coming up, and having heard them in huge sub-woofers, I highly recommend you embrace ’em.
Hot Pink Delorean – My Favourite (Shapes of Light Remix)
Adele – Rolling in the Deep (Shapes of Light Remix)

As for some other producers making names for themselves, Jamie XX is all over the internet. He’s got more a chill, relaxed sound, but his remixes are very clean and always interesting to listen to. Also, Dan Castro has made it onto the Beatport Top 10 (Beatport is the HOME to all electronica EDM music).

Jamie XX:
FaltyDL – Hip Love (Jamie xx Remix)
Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Jamie xx Shuffle) (Childish Gambino rapped on this)

Dan Castro:
The Mistress (Dan Castro Remix)
Don Diablo – Animale (Dan Castro Remix) [feat. Dragonette]:

And there’s your Electronic Tuesday! Lots of love, and jam out,
Sarah (: (ChinUp Music)

Relax under the covers – The Kickdrums, Mike Posner, PJ Simas & Yeasayer

February 27th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

Above is a mashup/cover by produced by PJ Simas and performed by him on the instrumentals and rapping and Jorden Corey with the vocals. In the song they specifically focus on Skylar Grey’s part from “Coming Home” by Diddy Dirty Money and her feature in “I Need A Doctor” by Dr. Dre and Eminem. Download “Coming Home x I Need A Doctor” (cover).

Below are three other really good songs that are covers.

First is The Kickdrum’s cover of Nirvana’s song “Love Buzz”, big fan of the instrumentals and the vocals go along really well.
The Kickdrums – Love Buzz (Nirvana Cover)
Recently Mike Posner did a cover of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep”. Before you dismiss Posner for what turned out to be a flop of a debut album save for a few pop hits, Posner returns to his awesome production roots for a relaxed pop cover.
Mike Posner – Rolling In The Deep (Adele Cover)
Lastly Yeasayer covers Seal’s “Crazy”. Seal is a great artist and while I don’t think the Yeasayer cover is better than the original, it provides a alternative/folk perspective of one of the best Seal songs.
