Video: Asher Roth – Last Man Standing ft. Akon

September 16th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

Attention hip-hop radio stations across the universe: put “Last Man Standing” on your playlist! If hip-hop stations knew what was good for them, they would play Asher Roth‘s new hit, “Last Man Standing” which features Akon on the hook. This is a dope song, a bonified hit. MTV you should be putting this music video on as well, this song is dope and further proves Asher Roth is NOT a one-hit wonder!

Radio hit! I never believed “I Love College” was going to be Asher Roth‘s last mainstream hit; never thought he was a one-hit wonder. “Last Man Standing” featuring Akon is Roth’s next single that should put him back on the map and show people that he’s not just another white rapper with a 1-hit wonder.

I heard rumors that Asher Roth was working with Pharrell Williams, not sure what happened with that but I’m glad Akon agreed to jump on this track, it’s like the cherry on top of an ice cream sundae.

Loving the beat, rapping is superb, Akon brings the catchy hooks and the mainstream appeal, overall a well-made track. Listen and download “Last Man Standing” below.

Bonus: Speaking of Pharell, here’s a rap he did over a song in one of my favorite film soundtracks, Tron Legacy. I loved the film’s sound because Daft Punk‘s sound actually made everything in the movie better! Does Pharell’s rap make the track better?

My Blogger’s Valentine (mixtape)

February 14th, 2011 by | Before Bigs Exclusive |

When Mostly Junk Food told me that he was putting together a valentines day mixtape and wanted a song from the top blogs, I knew I had to jump at the chance to provide a dope song about love or lack thereof on Valentines Day.

Download: My Blogger’s Valentine (mixtape)

I chose “Something in Common” by Free Energy because of how genuine and honest the song is. Free Energy isn’t asking you to fall in love with them but if you like what you see, then let’s get together and do something. Plus when we meet people that we like, we are always looking for something in common with that individual. Below is “Something in Common” plus two other songs I considered submitting that I was so happy to see another blog chose.
Free Energy – Something In Common
Song choice of Chin Up Music:
Tupac – Do For Love (Vodka & Milk Remix)
Song choice of The Music Ninja:
The Lonely Island – I Just Had Sex ft. Akon

For all 13 of the bloggers song choices and why they chose those songs, check out the original post.

Top soundcloud submissions

February 11th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance, Electropop, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, R&B, Remix, Soundcloud's Best |

Artists send us your tracks to our soundcloud, because I listen to all the submissions and most of the time provide some feedback. The five songs below are my favorite submissions we have gotten in the last month:

First song is by Stevie Grant and it’s called “FLY”. The rapping is so-so, the instrumentals are good but really my favorite part is when the piano comes in with Rihanna’s voice. I was on the fence about posting this but the last minute of the song changed my mind.

Next song is by Chicago MC K. Vincent called “Ain’t A Thing Change” which I like mostly because of the instrumentals and lyrics. Keep an eye out on K. Vincent.

Next we got HOVAT with “Let Them Die” which is a triple remix similar to the latest iSH song, “Let Them“. This has a good party flow to it, the hook by jj is dope and overall HOVAT makes this his own for a good catchy alternative hip-hop song. If you like this song, go download HOVAT’s latest mixtape, Out of Nowhere, which has a lot of non hip-hop samples. I would call HOVAT a poor-man’s Hoodie Allen at this point.

LectroLips are an electro-pop duo that sent us “What We Came For” which has interesting instrumentals and synthed up vocals. If your a fan of electro-pop then take a listen.

Lastly, the Electronic Pop Hop jam, “Ekkies in my pocket” by AlteRego & Baldylox. I hadn’t heard of them before.

iSh – “Let Them” (JJ x Akon Remix)

February 7th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Remix |

iSH creates a brand new “double remix”.  iSH takes JJ’s “Let Them” and adds in some raw rapping into it.  Here is what he said about this track:

I decided to remix the song “Let Them” by jj, which was a remix of an Akon song…so I guess this is a remix of a remix of a remix?

iSH has made some awesome remixes recently and it is pretty apparent that he is a very young and talented rapper. I would love to start seeing more original content by him as I feel he has potential to make it big. However, it’s all about taking baby steps and so far I love what I hear by him. Enjoy!

Catchy songs to party to *Akon, The Academy, Ian Carey & Robyn

February 2nd, 2011 by | Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Remix |

Below are four songs I have been waiting too long to blog about that are upbeat catchy songs that fall under either electronica, pop, hip-hop or a little bit of all three.

“It’s On” by The Academy came out in late December and is a great song to start the party and/or pre-gaming. “Industructable” by Robyn is a good song (video above) but then A-Trak remixes it (remix below) to make for a dope Electro-Pop track and a must listen for partying. “Last Night” is by Ian Carey and features Bobby Anthony and Snoop Dogg for a party song that should be on the radio if it isn’t already. Lastly, Akon recently released “Wake Up Call (One More Time)”, another catchy electronic pop hop jam that will be on the radio, played in the clubs and is a good song to blast at parties.

The Academy – It’s On
Robyn – Indestructible (A-Trak Radio Edit)
Ian Carey – Last Night ft. Bobby Anthony & Snoop Dogg
Akon – Wake Up Call (One More Time)

Who Dat Girl remixes – Deniz Koyu x James Jeffery

February 1st, 2011 by | Electro, Remix, Rock |

Got two dope remixes of “Who Dat Girl” by Flo Rida & Akon. It’s a catchy hip-hop radio hit that I enjoy but I think the two remixes I bring you might just be a little bit better. Above is James Jeffery with his rock remix/cover of “Who Dat Girl” (Download) where he added guitar and drums to the original to make for a higher quality “Who Dat Girl”.

Below is a house remix to “Who Dat Girl” by Deniz Koyu (Download). It’s about 6 minutes long but it picks up as the song goes on which makes it worth downloading.

Here’s the original to listen and download.
