Hidden Gem: Jake Troth *emerging alternative pop star

October 7th, 2013 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Music Video, Pop |

Last Monday, the Recording Academy staff had the pleasure of getting a showcase performance from singer/songwriter/producer Jake Troth. He was an absolute joy to see live as most of us hadn’t heard of him and didn’t know what to expect. He performed 4 songs and although my co-workers didn’t enjoy all of them and said the last two were way better than the first two, I felt all four songs were pretty good. However the songs that stuck with me were “On My Way” and “Material Things”.

Keep an eye out on the alternative pop performer as he’s already worked and performed with rapper Big Boi on the track “Apple Of My Eye“, has his upcoming album Double Black Diamond coming out soon and will be signed to a major record deal sooner than later.

Watch the music videos for “On My Way” and “Material Things” below. (more…)

Saint Motel – Benny Goodman *alternative pop

July 7th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop |

So Saint Motel‘s debut album, Voyuer, comes out July 10th. To hold us over, the alternative pop band released “Benny Goodman”, an interesting song that is a musical first for Saint Motel in some ways as it’s kind of a genre-bending homage to the man himself.

Manicanparty – Monarch *alternative pop

April 24th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop |

Got a new song from alternative pop group Manicanparty. They are managed by the same dude who reps OnCue another highly talented artist.

With “Monarch”, I really dig how it builds up and how it progresses from real unusual alternative instrumentals to having more of an indie feel.

Listen and download “Monarch” below.

Hidden Gem: Jhameel *Indie-Pop

September 12th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Pop |

Jhameel is an up-and-coming indie pop artist out of San Francisco. Here’s what his manager wrote to us:

Jhameel creates passionate music that stands out, leading with powerfully sung, soulful melodies which are backed by instrumentation inspired by truly eclectic sources (Prince, MGMT).  It’s the kind of genre defying modern music that is perfect for Before the Bigs. Not to mention, he plays every single instrument on his records himself!

Here’s my four most recent favorites from Jhameel.

Hidden Gem: SPEAK *synth-rock-pop

August 23rd, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Pop, Rock, synthpop |

SPEAK is a band from Austin, Texas with a smooth rock/pop sound. I have only heard 2 songs from them but believe they display mainstream potential. Their debut full-length album, I Believe In Everything, comes out September 27 through Modern Art Records/Atlantic.

Here’s my two favorites from SPEAK, “Carrie” and “Digital Love”, which is a thrilling cover of the Daft Punk classic.
