Hidden Gem: Saints of Valory *upbeat alternative Pop/Rock

April 8th, 2014 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Hidden Gem, Music Video, Pop, Rock |

I don’t know how I discovered this band, I just found four of their songs on my iTunes that I downloaded in December and finally got to. But wow, Saints of Valory‘s four song Possibilities EP is some great upbeat fun that I enjoy very much! This rock/alternative/pop band signed to Atlantic Records and are a hit!

Stream the Saints of Valory‘s Possibilities EP to understand the hype, my favorites are “Kids”, “Long Time Coming” and “Back Up”.

Oh wait, now I remember how I might have discovered them! When I was really into “Royals” covers, I think I came across theres and became a fan of the band. Watch their Saints of Valory‘s acoustic cover to “Royals”, the harmonized vocals are hot and makes you want to sing along to Lorde‘s catchy lyrics!

Prospect of the Week: Donnis

October 28th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Prospect of the Week |

This Atlanta-based hip-hop/r&b artist was on XXL Magazine’s “Freshmen 10″ list alongside J. Cole and Atlantic Records labelmate, Wiz Khalifa.

He released an EP, entitled ‘Fashionably Late” in September and is working on his debut album, which should drop in Spring 2011. Right now he is also touring with dance-punk duo Matt & Kim.

He reminds of other Atlanta hip-hop like B.o.B and Big Boi. He’s on his way to really blowing up, especially when his album drops and his tour with Matt & Kim will only build his audience.

Listen and download my favorites by Donnis off his mixtape Diary of an ATL Brave (a must Download), his Fashionably Late mixtape (download), which dropped in June, and his Fashionably Late EP (Fashionably).

Official music video: B.o.B – “Magic”

Requirements of a hip-hop music video:
  • Lots of attractive slutty girls: check!
  • Rapper looks fly: check!

“Magic” featuring Rivers Cuomo by B.o.B is a pretty cool music video, they show lots of people dancing around and really enjoying his song “Magic”. I enjoy the song too and hope you do as well.

Wiz Khalifa’s newest song, “Black and Yellow”, is his first song under Atlantic Records. This song pays homage to Khalifa’s home town Pittsburgh and how he proudly represents the black & yellow of the Steelers and Pirates. Can’t wait for more new Wiz Khalifa shit.

Prospect of the Week: XV

August 7th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Prospect of the Week |

This week our “Prospect of the Week” is awarded to Wichita, Kansas rapper XV, who after 13 mixtapes and nearly 10 years of rapping, was been signed by Warner Bros on July 26th.

We posted a few songs by him before on this blog, but he definately deserves Prospect of the Week because of his recent record deal and he also put out a new mixtape called V Is For Vizzy a “best of” mixtape but there are a few exclusive songs as well.

He has toured with Chiddy Bang and Kid Cudi previously and was wanted by two other labels (including Atlantic) but chose Warner Bros. because it had room to grow. His debut album, The Kid With The Green Backpack is scheduled for a 2010 release.

Below you will find the download link for XV’s latest mixtape.

Wiz Khalifa
Mac Miller

So last week, we awarded our first “Prospect of the Week” to Mac Miller, an 18-year old Pittsburgh native who recently signed a record deal with Rostrum Records, the same label as Wiz Khalifa. This week he put out the song “Don’t Mind If I Do”, which samples pop/rock band Owl City, and I must say it’s pretty good.

Also this week, an unreleased track by Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa entered the blogosphere, “Fly Solo” and after hearing it, I had to post it. After being named “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” by MTV, Wiz Khalifa got a new record deal, signing with Atlantic Records, via his indie label Rostrum Records. Khalifa is launching a 55-date “Waken Baken” Tour in North America in mid-September on the heels of his sold-out “Deal or No Deal” tour this summer.

Both these guys are moving up in terms of popularity and their music is only getting better. Check out “Don’t Mind If I Do” and “Fly Solo”.
