upcoming R&B update *August, Bluey Robinson, Cameron Bedell, Superlative

February 28th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

I googled R&B smooth and the above picture is what I got.

I want to say sorry because a few of these songs are a bit old. Below are four R&B songs from some up-and-coming R&B/Hip-Hop artists. I hope that all these artists make it mainstream because the songs below are so chill, smooth or overall just really catchy.

August made the track below for Usher. His vocals aren’t too bad (somebody sign him), the lyrics aren’t the best but the instrumentals are solid and overall good production from August. Very catchy R&B!
August – Throne (Usher Demo)
This Bluey Robinson is pretty old (2009) but I only heard it about a month ago when my friend Matt posted it on facebook. It’s such a smooth R&B jam, catchy hook, and overall a great song to get your groove on.
Bluey Robinson – Showgirl
This song came out in Fall 2010 and I forgot to post it. Cameron Bedell and Donnie Chauncey hook up to create this love ballad, I strongly considered to use in MJF’s “My Blogger’s Valentine” mixtape but it was a little too love song for me. However everything about this song screams catchy. I can easily see this song on the radio.

Lastly, the most recent song comes from a group of artists known as Superlative. This is their first song “Prototype”, which was submitted to me a couple weeks ago. It’s a chill song with an interesting beat, and I look forward to Superlative first project coming out later this Spring.

Concert review: Weezer at Del Mar, Saturday 8/21

August 29th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Reviews, Rock |

The San Diego Summer Concert Series at Del Mar is about half-way done and already there have been some great performances including The B-52s, Jimmy Cliff (concert review here), Matisyahu, and Weezer.

Last Saturday they featured Weezer, which not only performed their most recent hits, but just about all of their classic hits. The image above is their album cover to Hurley, Weezer’s latest album coming out September 14. They were inspired by the character “Hurley” from the classic American TV show LOST.

Below is a two minute highlights video of Weezer’s performance at Del Mar Saturday, August 21 and videos some other people made there.

Two-minute Weezer/Del Mar highlights:

Weezer mashing up MGMT’s “Kids” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”
Weezer – “Island in the Sun”
If you’re in the SoCal area, I would check out ZZ Top on September 4, which concludes the 2010 Del Mar Summer Concert Series.

Weezer was so much fun as they made some funny jokes, did an awesome “Kids/Poker Face” mashup/cover in which Rivers Cuomo, lead singer of Weezer, put on a blond girl wig when Weezer performed parts of “Poker Face”. They rocked out playing all their greatest songs and performed close to two hours, more than I expected.

Two new Chiddy Bang songs!

July 31st, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Miscellaneous |

I cannot believe I didn’t hear about this sooner (only 1 day late) but Chiddy Bang has released two remixes, one with Jim Jones rapping over “Opposite of Adults” which Xaphoon Jones mixed up a bit for JJ. It turns out to be a good track and I would never imagine Jim Jones and Chiddy Bang collaborating but it turns out to be a great remix.

Also Chiddy Bang released a remix of “California Gurls” by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg, however this is an InnerPartySystem remix with some verses by Chiddy, who does a great job handling the rap part of this summer pop anthem remix.

Both are solid songs, I wouldn’t say they are great but good songs to put out there as Chiddy Bang is hyping people up for the release of their debut album, The Swelly Life, coming out August 24. *Update: Katy Perry’s people made us remove above song. Sorry 🙁
