This Saturday August 16 marks the 3rd annual Pacific Festival which will be held at The Dunes in Newport Beach, California. It’s a great location with DJs and bands performing on or near the beach, there should be beautiful weather present and hopefully a laid back fun ambiance in what should be a very fun one-day music festival. This will be my third time attending the Southern California festival in which I’ve discovered some real talented artists. Here’s the set times:

Below are the six acts I’m most excited to see on Saturday (purchase tickets here)! (more…)

More in-depth review: Pacific Festival 2012

September 12th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Daily Mix, Dance, Disco, Electro, Electronic Dance Music, Electronic Rock, Electropop, House, Music Video, Pop, Remix, Rock, synthpop |

A couple Sunday’s ago, I attended Pacific Festival 2012: The Dunes, featuring Mayer HawthornePoolsideBag RaidersCapital Cities and much much more vibe out at the Newport Beach Marina. This was my 2nd time attending Pacific Festival and this year they toned it down on worldwide acts (last year Snoop Dogg, Cut Copy, Steve Aoki and Calvin Harris were some notable favorites) but they moved the location away from an isolated area (from Oak Canyon Ranch to Newport Beach) and really created this unique festival vibe on a beach.

While E-Wish’s review was straight to the point, it only covered half the acts we saw and is very simple.  Read my full review below.

Pacific Festival: The Dunes 2012 preview + official festival mix

August 21st, 2012 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Daily Mix, Guest Mix |

Southern California’s Pacific Festival: The Dunes 2012 is quickly approaching and I thought I would provide some details into one of the most underrated festivals in California. Not only is there a great variety of music from retro soul crooner Mayer Hawthorne to daytime disco duo Poolside to probably the best electro-dance pop/rock band ever, Capital Cities, this is a festival you don’t want to miss on Sunday September 2! This festival will be set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean at The Dunes in Newport Beach with DJ sets from plenty of up-and-comers you need to see live including Bag Raiders, Goldroom andMiami Horror to name a few.

The best way for me to express my excitement for Pacific Festival (which we reviewed last year), is to once again provide the “unofficial” Pacific Festival 2012 mixtape, which features 15 of my favorite songs from the acts performing at this year’s festival. Stream the 15-track mix below as well as the official “Pacific Festival: The Dunes 2012” mix. Purchase tickets here and visit for more info on this must-see event that added the people behind Identity Festival to make this year’s festival even more of a rager! (more…)

Here’s the latest mix from Bag Raiders. Over an hour of tracks, many of which I’ve never heard before, which makes it even more enjoyable. These guys are one of my favorite bands live and I highly recommend listening and downloading the hour+ long continuous mix they made.

Hopefully Bag Raiders releases new music soon but at least we got their monthly continuous mixes to hold us over.

August 17th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, House, Pop, Remix, Rock |

As we drove down the 5 freeway headed to the Pacific Festival, the excitement level was rising like a hot kettle on the stove. With a loaded lineup headlined by Snoop Dogg & Cut Copy and artists such as Calvin Harris, Phantogram, Ghostland Observatory, Steve Aoki, Fred Falke, Bag Raiders, The C90’s, !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk) on the schedule, there was no better place to be on August 13th, 2011 than Oak Canyon Ranch in Orange County, California. Having VIP Backstage access was sure to make it epic. What follows is just that. E.P.I.C.

So were less than one month away to the first-ever Orange County Pacific Festival on August 13, 2011. I’m super excited for this festival as it features many underrated acts and I really respect the fact that the organizers of this festival were able to bring in so many quality acts in their first year of this festival. Here’s a cool Pacific Festival trailer to watch that has more info on the event.

Some of the notable acts performing include Snoop Dogg, Cut Copy, Steve Aoki, Calvin Harris, Ghostland Observatory, Phantogram, toro y moi, Bag Raiders, and many more! Buy tickets here.

I am so excited for the Pacific Festival that I decided to make a 25-track mixtape with my favorite songs from many of the artists performing on August 13, 2011 in Orange County, California.

Hidden Gem: Snob Scrilla

April 22nd, 2011 by | Dance, Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

I discovered Snob Scrilla through the SXSW 2011 Torrent. He’s an Australian Singer/Songwriter who has a diverse hip-hop/pop sound. So happy I discovered this musician as he has a mix of hip-hop and electronica to create real upbeat enjoyable tracks. Snob Scrilla is a must watch artist and here’s three song why:

Snob Scrilla – Heartbreak Scorsese

Snob Scrilla – There You Go Again

Snob Scrilla – Spaceship (Produced By Bag Raiders)

If you like Snob Scrilla‘s sound, follow him on facebook and twitter.

Mashup Monday: virgins of BtB

March 21st, 2011 by | Mashup, Mashup Monday |

First RIP Nate Dogg, “Regulate” is one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time!

Now onto some mashups. The mashup artists below have never been featured on Before the Bigs. The first few mashups are pretty chill while the last two have more upbeat electronic beats/synths to them.

First we got Vico Ono who uses the rapping from Skee-Lo over the always chill Jack Johnson instrumentals. If a music video was made for this song, it would be somebody laying down at the beach and slowly fall asleep, entering the dream sequence of the lyrics from Skee-Lo.
I Wish I Was Jack Johnson by Vico Ono
Next we got Fissunix who uses the instrumentals to the song all white people know the lyrics of versus the vocals of a Two Door Cinema Club song I love the instrumentals of. Oasis instrumentals vs. TDCC vocals, let’s all chill by the camp fire to this song.
Wonderwall You Know by Fissunix
T.I. vs The Beatles! Imagine if T.I. came out on stage performing this song while holding all those weapons he illegally owned. I don’t know how I would respond to such a site. Well done Benjamin Dranklin, the two words to best describe this song would be safe hip-hop.
What You Know About Blackbird (T.I. vs The Beatles) by Benjamin Dranklin
Next we got Clubsauce who uses two underrated artists in Clipse and Bag Raiders. Clipse and Bun B on the rapping with Bag Raiders electronica instrumentals.
Clipse vs. Bag Raiders – Wamp Wamp by Mouth by Clubsauce
Lastly Mr Physix “Soldier of Luchini” is Camp Lo vs Rusko vs The Temper Trap. I like how all three of these artists are blended in although you can probably insert another hip-hop act other than Camp Lo and still get a dope mashup. Download

(too big) for hidden gem: Bag Raiders

January 23rd, 2011 by | Electro, Electropop, House, Remix |

I discovered Bag Raiders near the end of 2010, got some time to do some research on them and found they are pretty popular around the world. This Aussie electro/house duo has over 13,000 fans on facebook, has released several EP’s and released their self-titled debut album in October 2010.

Below are a few of my favorite songs from Bag Raiders including a remix which they have become known for. Although they have an electro/house style, there is vocals, which I always love in electronica music and their music has a nice upbeat dance feel to it.

Bag Riaders – Sunlight (November 2010 single + my personal fav)

Bag Raiders – Shooting Stars (2009 hit single)

Kid Sister – Pro Nails (Bag Raiders Remix)
