Arguably two of the biggest newcomers in hip-hop in the last year or so, Big Sean and Mac Miller, collaborate on a new track called “Hundred Dollar Bill Skyscraper”. It’s a laid back, soft kind of hip-hop track, perfect for getting your week started. This track is a taste of Big Sean’s much anticipated new mixtape and sophomore album. Enjoy!
It’s that time of the month again for the best soundcloud submissions from the month of November. We got a new Soundcloud so feel free to send us new music there or just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you got some new tunes you think we will dig.
The most recent submission we got was from a guy named U Nu (pronounced: oo – noo). U Nu combines electronic and organic sounds out there, drawing elements from the indie rock and electronic world, while not shying away from hip hop beats, latin rhythms, instrumental freakouts, beatboxing, and sampling a guy scratching his beard (among other things). As of two weeks ago, U Nu released his first album “Summer of Rain”. The album is entirely composed, performed, recorded, edited, mixed, and mastered by him; he even did all of the artwork! So? Enticed? I recommend going to his bandcamp if you want the full album experience. Stream “Mind The Gap” below. Mind the Gap by U_Nu
Next we got a killer remix from the Tune In Crew. They remixed the Kelly Rowland/Big Sean song, “Lay It On Me”, giving it an electro banger feel. Here’s what they said about their remix:
This time we’ve chosen to make it progressive, melting electro, pop and urban trends, for a track most of all designed to set the Dancefloor on fire!
We are proud to introduce you to Boston electronic house DJ Mike Irish. His latest banger, “Technicolor”, is a must-listen and Mike Irish is a DJ you need to keep an eye on as he has loads of potential just from what you hear off “Technicolor”. Technicolor by MikeIrishMusic
We are also proud to introduce you to Seattle MC BenniB. He sent us three songs off his latest mixtape, Journal of a Journey. Out of the three songs, I enjoyed “I Won’t Crash” the most. Being from Seattle, he reminds me of Macklemore and some other white alternative hip-hop acts out there today. I think he’s got potential as he further defines his sound and hopefully makes it sound more different than the other rising Seattle MCs out there. BenniB – I Won’t Crash by bennibmusic
I saved the best for last withSilver Medallion‘s new single, “Stars”. This actually came out in October and was Silver Medallion‘s second release on DJ Benzi‘s Get Right Records. This uptempo house track proves Silver Medallion has a bright future in the music industry. Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, and Big Sean get together to create “Flowers” an awesome new chill-relaxed hip-hop track. This song has a simple, old school beat to it with fantastic rapping by all three artists who have been quite busy lately releasing all sorts of new tracks which gets their fans very excited. I expect to see more out of this collaboration in the near future. in the meantime, enjoy this laid-back song.
If all the Wale hating hasn’t stopped yet, there’s nothing he can do. This summer, Wale has come out with awesome track after awesome track with features from some of the best in the game. This latest track, “First Class” features Big Sean and B.O.B, and all of these dudes straight kill it. This song is a MUST DOWNLOAD. My only question is when is Wale’s next solo project going to come out? Wale is back. Go get em!
Dom Kennedy is seriously one of the most underrated, under-appreciated rappers in the game. He just dropped his album, II: From the Westside with Love, under the shadows of Big Sean and Curren$y, and it’s seriously a nugget that not enough people know about. Dom Kennedy may be the next big thing out of the west coast. Check out “New Jeeps” featuring Asher Roth and Mikey Rocks of the Cool Kids. It’s a must listen and has the perfect summertime vibe.
Follow Mr. Kennedy on Twitter, and if you’re really feeling it, buy the album of itunes.
Tomorrow Big Sean‘s debut album, Finally Famous, finally drops. I got a sneak peak of the whole album and after listening to each of the songs a few times, I can honestly say this might be one of the best hip-hop debut album of 2011 and the best G.O.O.D. Music album release of the year.
The Kickdrums are like utility men for a sports team, they play multiple roles and their efforts, while not too well-known, are pivotal in a team’s success. The Kickdrums is a team assembled of two versatile musicians in Alex Fittz and Matt Penttila, who have worked with artists like 50 Cent and Kid Cudi but have recently shifted focus on hip-hop production but with heavy drum breaks and fuzzy guitars.
Recently they released a mixtape for this April’s Coachella Festival. In their roles as utility men, they remixed 40 songs and put in a little of The Kickdrums flair, improving most of the songs through the varied talents they bring to these songs.
If you want a great 50+ minute mix I highly recommend to download and view the tracklist. Below are 3 more songs from The Kickdrums that I thoroughly enjoy as well.
I know I posted the above video already but it’s such an epic song and the video can be described in the same light plus it recently got deemed unsafe for people with epilepsy which I’m not surprised by. It happened to a video by Gnarls Barkley.
Anyways after watching the video, I got a few “All of the Lights” songs for you including one with Lil Wayne, Big Sean and Drake rapping to the beat, then Play N Skillz create a slowed up electronic pop hop cover/remix.
However I saved the best for last with a rocking cover of “All Of The Lights” that I absolutely love. Folk/Soul/Pop band Delta Rae captures the power of the original but takes it into a more acoustic rock direction. Follow Delta Rae on facebook and twitter if you like the cover below. I think Kanye would give a standing ovation to this song.
It is not necessarily a big deal anymore when Wiz Khalifa comes out with new songs; simply because he does it seems like multiple times a week. Well, he recently released a new mixtape calledCabin Fever via his Twitter account just out of the blue. Without mentioning it or promoting it to anybody prior, he surprised and made his fans happy with new songs on a whim. My three favorite on this mixtape are “Phone Numbers” (featuring Trae Tha Truth and Big Sean), “Homicide” and “Middle of You” both (featuring Chevy Woods). Enjoy!
“Phone Numbers” (featuring Trae Tha Truth and Big Sean):
New Big Sean single off his much anticipated debut album,Finally Famous: The Album. It’s called “My Last” and it features Chris Brown. Personally, I think Big Sean is a little overrated but this song is pretty legit. I look forward to what’s next by him. Enjoy!
