Hidden Gem: BITERS *anthem/arena rock!

May 18th, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Music Video, Rock |

I love BITERS or The Biters because they have this upbeat rock sound that makes you want to get up and dance or sing along to. These  remind me of a modern-day KISS with their pump-you-up style of rock with the rocking instrumentals, harmonized vocals and overall a fun rock sound

We featured their song, “Melody for Lovers”, in our Best You Never Heard III mixtape and since then, the band released a music video for “Born to Cry” which is off their latest album, All Chewed Up, which came out in early March.

Here’s my 3 favorites from All Chewed Up (iTunes). Below watch the official music video to “Born to Cry” and I have a bonus track that’s also worth downloading.
Biters – Born To Cry
Biters – The Boy’s Alright
Biters – Hold On

Guide to SXSW 2011 (A-B)

March 7th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

In mid-February I downloaded a 700+ song torrent which took about 12 hours to download. Throughout the process I kept contemplating whether to continue to downloading or just give up. Luckily I downloaded the whole thing and discovered hundreds of artists I never knew about who I respect and enjoy now.

This SXSW 2011 Torrent which featured a song by most of the artists performing at this years annual South X South West Festival starting this Friday in Austin, Texas. This is a must-attend festival if you’re a fan of music and/or other forms of art.

Anyways, rather than having you slow up your computer for about half a day downloading close to 800 songs, each day I will bring you about 10-12 songs in alphabetical order by artist name. On Tuesday March 15, the day when the music part of SXSW starts, I will put my favorite songs from the torrent in a mixtape.

By the way, I haven’t blogged about any of these artists before and this probably won’t be the last you hear me talking about most of them.

I found a lot of artists that begin with A or B that I really liked from the torrent so here’s 11 of those with a few words on the song. “5-star!” means I gave them a 5-star rating on my iTunes.

Admiral Fallow is one of the few folk-rock songs I really like.
Admiral Fallow – Squealing Pigs
Alvarez Kings are an indie rock band that I would love to see live with the energy from this song.
Alvarez Kings – Patience Is Strength
Andrew Allen is an artist you need to follow because he is going to sell millions of albums with sounds similar to Jason Mraz, Maroon 5 and Eric Hutchinson.
Andrew Allen – Loving You Tonight
Banner Pilot is a rock band. Time to rock out!
Banner Pilot – Central Standard
Bear Driver is alternative/indie reminds me of a more raw Brooklyn rock band (like The Drums).
Bear Driver – Wolves
Beefy not only has a funny artist name but his genre-blending Seattle electronic rap/rock is fun. 5-star!
Beefy – Bestestist (Mustin Mix)
Biters have a stadium rock/glam rock influences and I love how upbeat their rock/pop sound is. 5-star!
Biters – Melody for Lovers
Blacklisted Individuals are electronic pop hop, really cool retro influences from early hip-hop beats with catchy dance hip-hop beats of the future. Hip-Pop to dance to.
Blacklisted Individuals – Dance Sucka!
Bliss N Eso have a great song with such power behind the lyrics and great uplifting instrumentals behind it. 5-star!
Bliss N Eso – Addicted
Catchy pop/rock from Bowling For Soup, hard to ignore such catchy yet silly songs from them.
Bowling For Soup – S-S-S-Saturday
The Bright Light Social Hour have a catchy funk influenced alternative rock song you should dance to if your a total hipster.
The Bright Light Social Hour – Back And Forth
Tomorrow I will bring my favorite songs whose artist name starts with any letter from C-E in the SXSW 2011 Torrent.
