Review: Spirit Animal at Bootleg Theater *emerging alt-rock band

September 29th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Rock |

Last night I caught alternative rock n roll band Spirit Animal at The Bootleg Bar in Los Angeles. It was a free show and it was totally worth it seeing this emerging band who I think will be on a local radio station by the end of 2015 or sometime in 2016. Their latest song, “Regular World” which they should have finished with, is a radio-friendly upbeat rock song that has some catchy rock vibes that I can see on a KROQ Locals Only playlist. I also loved when they played “Party In The Back” which is an upbeat electro rock vibe and “The Black Jack White” is an excellent dance rock track that can make you feel wild. The lead singer and the band has great energy, even having some simple choreographed dance moves during some of their tunes and really engaging the audience as the lead singer is a wild man on stage, a plus for getting the crowd into your music!

Their upbeat style reminds me of the funkiness of Jack White made a baby with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Stream “Regular World” and “Party In The Back” below.

Follow Spirit Animal on facebook if you like them.

Torches – I Want Something *Indie Rock

June 14th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie |

Los Angeles’ own Torches are proudly spreading the word about their debut album Heads Full Of Rust to the masses. Gaining recognition from local radio stations, KROQ and KCRW as well as Buzz Bands LA and even BBC, this budding trio aren’t just confident in themselves but they’ve got the talents of engineer David Newton (The Henry Clay People, Happy Hollows) behind them too!

“I Want Something” walks the fine line between chugging percussion and delicate guitar rhythms plus hypnotic vocals courtesy of singer, Azad Cheikosman.

Catch Torches at the Make Music Pasadena Festival on Saturday, June 16. They’ll be playing at the Town Pub Stage at 7:15PM! They’ve also got a show at The Bootleg Theater on June 22.

Stay tuned for our review of Heads Full Of Rust!

The Dance Party & Atomic Tom Light Up The Bootleg Theater

February 6th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Rock |

Last Tuesday night, I was blessed to see two very talented acts on stage, both alternative rock bands, at the great Bootleg Theater in Silver Lake. When we first arrived, The Dance Party from Washington D.C. was already killing it on stage. They provided so much energy in their sets. The crowd was loving every minute of their performance. Check out one of my favorite tracks by them below called “Sasha Don’t Sleep”. It is for sure going to be a huge hit soon. Enjoy!

Atomic Tom who is pictured above, was the headliner of the event and for good reason. They mix the vintage with the new providing a blend of 80’s soft rock and a new wave alternative rock sound. They truly are a very talented group (especially on stage). They know how to entertain a crowd and this band will continue to gain lots of notice. My favorite track by them is “Take Me Out”. Enjoy!

If you loved the track, then you should definitely see the video of them performing this track on an NYC Subway using only their iphones as instruments. It is a must see video and you can view it here. Hope you enjoy it!
