Hidden Gem: Cousin Matt *chill electronic duo

image0011 Hidden Gem: Cousin Matt *chill electronic duoI was going to post this yesterday when I was experiencing a very lazy Sunday and overall withdrawal from a long fun weekend but I got lazy, what a surprise. Anyway I’d like to introduce you to Cousin Matt, a brand new Brooklyn/Atlanta based duo that have twinkling production, seductive vocals and a dreamy feel that really caught my ear. They’ve only released three tracks and I just heard their latest “Soft Science” yesterday and immediately became a fan of this emerging music duo.

The cousins New York and Atlanta confluence is felt, with a style and sound that brings to mind D’angelo and Sufjan Stevens, and an attitude and approach not unlike early LCD Soundsystem.
Here’s the three songs they’ve released so far. My favorites are “Pelicans” and “Soft Science”.

Free Album: Riot !n Paris – Sample Sale

July 17th, 2012 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Alternative/Indie, Electropop, Hip-Hop/Rap |

475490299 1 600x600 Free Album: Riot !n Paris Sample SaleSample sale is a sonic crash course in the evolution of Riot !n Paris. It is a concept album that shuffles their past & future and and shows their ability to be creative and to create.

Here’s some words from the up-and-coming alternative rock/hip-hop duo from Brooklyn:

Our sound was born of creativity:
We started out by taking samples of our favorite rock songs and flipping them into new creations where we would mix the old with the new, clashing our two favorite genres of hip-hop and rock

Our Future is creation:
As time grew we have moved away from sampling and starting focusing on making new sounds that are 100% riot in paris.

This new album is our re-introduction into the world so we decided to display our creative side and show how creative we can be with sampling and paying omage to some of our favorite rock tracks. At the same time we are showing you the future of our sound, creating on our own what made us fall in love with the music we use to sample.

riotinparis Riot !n Paris Disposition *samples Temper Trap hit, must listen!

Brooklyn-based indie band Riot !n Paris have released “Disposition”, the first single off of their upcoming album Sample Sale. The track, which features an innovative reworking of the hit Temper Trap song “Sweet Disposition” perfectly sets the tone for their upcoming release, with its unique blend of indie rock and underground hip hop.

These guys are definitely a fresh sound, it’s got the right amount of indie mixed in. Enough to be new to your ears, but not overdone to the point where will you only enjoy this sipping an organic yerba mate through the speakers at your favorite vintage clothing store.

Hidden Gem: Dave Edwards *Brooklyn electro/house/pop DJ

April 2nd, 2012 by | Electropop, Hidden Gem, House, Remix |

Hidden Gem: Dave Edwards *Brooklyn electro/house/pop DJIf you haven’t heard of Dave Edwards yet, you soon will. Dave’s signature sound, which combines elements of American pop, classic French House, and modern House and Electro production techniques, is undeniably unique.

2012 looks to be the biggest year yet for Edwards rising career, with a string of original releases and remixes planned, as well as live performances and touring. His first original release of the year, “American Girl” with Silver Medallion, was a major hit in my eyes and built on the momentum with the releases to come.

Speaking of those releases, below is his latest track, a remix to the classic Fleetwood Mac song “Dreams”. Also featured below is an instrumental of his 2nd original release of the year, “First Time”.

Introducing Manicanparty *Alternative pop

April 1st, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop |

Introducing Manicanparty *Alternative popManicanparty is an alternative group composed of two individuals- Jessica and Patrick. Jessica is the vocalist/writer and Pat produces all the music. To put them in a genre in an “I-tunes sense” they would be labeled as Alternative but, according to their manager (who manages OnCue), there’s inflections of a lot of different genres in their music.  It all depends on what song your listening to.

They’re based out of Brooklyn by way of Minnesota. Here’s Manicanparty‘s debut, “Rebel In The Light”.

If your like me and can’t wait for more from this up-and-coming duo, then follow Manicanparty on twitter.

Exclusive Download: The Cant Wells Lying To Myself (video+mp3)The Can’t Tells, a rock trio from Brooklyn and we really like a lot of the music you cover on your blog.  They just released their new single from their upcoming full-length “No Television”. We were fortunate enough to get an exclusive download from The Can’t Tells.

I would describe their sound as dynamic, high energy rock n’ roll with a predilection for brevity and the weird. Exclusively download and listen to The Can’t Tells “Lying To Myself”.

If you like what you hear, watch a studio session performance of “Lying to Myself” and stream a couple other songs from the band below! (more…)

According to Silver Medallion, the song is “dance song about girls, america, circa 2004 Lindsay Lohan, house music and everything that’s amazing in the world”.
