I’m surprised we haven’t labeled Spree Wilson a “hidden gem” yet. He’s a pop singer from Brooklyn with a modern sound that is relaxed yet catchy at the same time. Here’s his latest three tracks and if your looking for more, I highly recommend, checking out our previous post on him.
We haven’t heard much from Theophilus London since the release of his debut album Timez Are Weird These Days. However, the first taste off his upcoming sequel to Lovers Holiday know as Lovers Holiday II: Rose Island has come upon us. This track is unique in many ways. With the interesting electronic and hip-hop sound and vocals by TL, I am definitely getting way more excited for what is next from the Brooklyn artist. Enjoy!
So our Director of Business Development, MikeRips, told us about Dj OnLii1 through a buddy of his that works with the Brooklyn house music DJ. He has mostly banging continuous mixes but lately has been putting out a bunch of bootlegs. Bootlegs are basically a few songs re-mixed into one, almost like a mashup but less fluid and more for raging to.
If this were 2009, a song that had any word possibly referencing Sonic The Hedgehog, then I and most other hip-hop heads would know that song probably has something to do with Charles Hamilton. Today hearing Brooklyn rapper Charles Hamilton‘s name is not real common among the hip-hop blogs as he has had his own struggles which have curtailed his music career.
However Charles Hamilton as a producer I’m a huge fan of, as you got this retro beat, loving the piano, rapping from Mickey Factz is solid, overall a pretty good song worth listening to. If they replaced the piano with some catchy electronic/dance beat, you think this would be a more popular song.
Today, we bring you a change of pace from our usual stuff, the Expose EP by Miles, a three-piece indie band out of Brooklyn, NY. We posted the single “Rust Belt” a few weeks ago, and Miles backs it up with 4 more songs that are all super tight, polished, and catchy. Typically, when I think of indie rock, I think of simple songs with some constant guitar strumming patterns and someone talk-singing. Miles’ music is the direct opposite.
Throughout the album, Miles’ singer Marc Plotkin shows tremendous vocal range along with crazy dexterity on the guitar, while drummer Jonathan Smith bangs out nuanced rhythms and bassist Ben Jacobs supplies tight, smooth counterpoint on the bass. All of the songs on the album are totally catchy, and although the music is pretty chilled out throughout the EP, you’ll find the songs stuck in your head. The soaring hooks will definitely have you singing along before your first listen is even over.
Miles’ music is full of excellent songwriting and tight instrumentation, very similar to bands like Death Cab for Cutie and Vampire Weekend. I think you’ll definitely be hearing a lot from these guys in the near future.
Continuing to display our dedication to posting a wide variety of dope music from up-and-coming musicians, here’s a Summer alternative beach rock type song from The Drums. Sounds similar to many of their other songs, low-fi rock, catchy yet smooth instrumentals. These Brooklyn rockers have a surf rock type Summer feel and “Money” further proves that.
Figuring out what to post tonight among all the music I got that I need to post was tough. I realized it’s time to introduce you to Trouble Andrew. I discovered Trouble Andrew on a facebook event page for another artists’ mixtape release party, googled him and now were here.
He’s got a catchy punk rock feel, actually it’s coined crunk rock to more specifically describe Trouble Andre. Trouble Andrew aka Trevor Andrew is based in Brooklyn, is married to Santogold and has a fun punk rock sound that reminds me of a little darker sounding New Kingdom if I had to compare to a current band.
However Trouble Andrew has a sort of neo-punk style with influences from early punk rock. Trust me that after Trouble Andrew performs at SXSW next week, you will hear a lot of other music media sites give him some positive reviews.
About 10 months ago, Trouble Andrew released Trouble Gang Mixtape, a 29-track project featuring an incredible range of collaborators including Lil Jon, Santogold, Diplo, Curren$y, Ninjasonik and much more. The mixtape has some rock, R&B, and some solid hip-hop as well. Before you download the mixtape, listen and download these three and if you like those, then listen and downloadTrouble Gang Mixtape on soundcloud. 06 Condition. 09 Cadillac 21 THE LAST GOODBYE

I discovered Bear Hands through watching the controversial MTV show, Skins. The song above is probably one of my favorite songs I have heard on the show and unfortunately I have seen all the episodes. The four-piece band has a post-punk feel to them but with a bit more electronic feel. The music video only makes the song better as it shows a variety of bad stuff like cheating and throwing firey objects at windows. However in the “Crime Pays” music video they also offers a bunch of other random things in teh video like a person walking the dog to people boxing.
Bear Hands are from Brooklyn, released an EP in 2007 then took 3 years to release their debut album last November, Burning Bush Supper Club (buy on Amazon). You should watch out for this upcoming indie rock band because they sound a bit like MGMT and Cold War Kids and have performed with MGMT (the lead singer was classmates with the two founding members of MGMT), Vampire Weekend, The XX, and Fitz & The Tantrums.
Brooklyn based hip-hop group Rocky Business is back with their first single “Rocky’s Theme” off their upcoming EP, Rebel’s Roar, which drops on March 22nd. This track has a simple beat while also bringing in a large alternative rock and hip-hop influence. After hearing this track, I am very excited for Rebel’s Roar to release. Enjoy!
