BeforeBigs.com presents: Young Prince (interview, freestyle & new songs!)

June 18th, 2011 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Hip-Hop/Rap |

In May, I had the opportunity to sit down with DMV-area rapper Young Prince while he was in Los Angeles promoting his music.

Young Prince talked about his upcoming mixtape, The Reverse Effect, his upcoming album that he’s currently working on, D.A.D., and gave me a little better idea of who Young Prince is and what he’s all about. When asked how best to describe his music, Beau Young said, “Like the first time Marvin Gaye hit a jay”.

Young Prince was nice enough to do a 1-minute acapella freestyle. If you are interested in just watching that, skip to 3:40 in the video.

Here’s a couple songs off The Reverse Effect, dropping tomorrow. After speaking to Beau about this project and hearing the songs he has released off it, I truly believe this to be his real breakout project.

Theodore Grams – Zombieland (BtB exclusive + blog news)

May 12th, 2011 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Hip-Hop/Rap |

First the great news and then the good news. We are officially sponsoring Philadelphia rapper/producer Theodore Grams upcoming mixtape, Great Job! 3. I have been following this artist ever since I heard he was connected to my all-time favorite artists out of Philly, Chiddy Bang and since have kept in close contact, constantly asking for more.

Theodore Grams is a rising artist and after hearing almost all of the project, minus a few last minute tracks, I believe this is his best project yet. That is saying quite a bit too as he has put out over 5 mixtapes and put out dope song with Xaphoon Jones early this year that samples Kanye West.

Now for the good news. Here’s our first exclusive leak off the mixtape for you, “Zombieland”. The hip-hop sounds like a song that would make zombies dance. I think it’s a solid track but I guarantee there are better tracks on this upcoming mixtape than this.

Folow Theo Grams on facebook and twitter. The mixtape comes out at 12:00am on Sunday May 15th, which you can download from Theodore Grams tumblr.

Interview with King Fantastic (BeforeBigs exclusive)

January 25th, 2011 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap |

We did this interview back in 2010 after King Fantastic performed at The Highlands club in Hollywood. I want to thank King Fantastic for being gracious enough to meet with us and be interviewed. Also want to thank my friend David for filming.

PUT THE VOLUME ON MAXIMUM WHEN WATCHING, the sound quality didn’t come out as good as we expected.

What King Fantastic didn’t mention in the interview is they are wrapping up a music video for “Lost Art of Killing”, which comes out February 8. Did you watch the interview yet and hear parts of King Fantastic’s dope music? If not, here’s a few of our favorite songs. *To download: Right-click (PC) or control-click (Mac).
Lost Art of Killing
Stop Fucking Playing
All Black Ying Yang (The Party Song)
Appreciation (ft. Truth In Fiction)

Dean and Ravo personally e-mailed us thanks for our last post on them and sent us the link to their newest music video for “End of the Week”. Personally I like “Walkin’ Around” a bit more but “End of the Week” is still a very dope song and I can’t wait for more from the hip-pop duo.

December 30th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Daily Mix, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Mashup, Pop, R&B, Remix, Rock |

It’s that time of the year where we would like to give back. Sometimes I feel we don’t give back to our readers enough and we are working to fix that in 2011. Until then, here’s a mixtape we created.

It’s called Best You Never Heard II, which is a mixtape showcasing some of the best up-and-coming talent in music from the last several months. It’s a collection of 20 songs of mostly hip-hop with a little bit of rock, pop, R&B and mashups/remixes (much like our site’s content).

Listen to the mixtape below, and download through mediafire.

Introducing Blackout 101

November 8th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Rock |

Blackout 101 is a young alternative Rock/Punk band hailing from the suburbs of Los Angeles, CA. Drawing influence from bands such as The Arctic Monkeys, Green Day, and The Bravery amongst others, the band’s sound is constantly progressing and the best way to experience the band in its true form is in a live setting. The self released EP “A Work In Progress” from late 2008 has earned the band many fans via myspace streaming, live concerts, interviews, word of mouth, etc. Expect their debut album to be released early 2011.

Here are a couple songs that will be on the upcoming album (sorry tracks aren’t mastered yet for downloading).

Introducing Hi-Rez

November 5th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Hi-Rez has some really good beats with chill lyricism. Here’s what his manager sent us:

Hi-Rez hails from Florida, but holds a true sound of smooth hip-hop in his rhymes, differentiating him from the mass population of Southern Swag rappers.

He is mostly an internet rapper (youtube) as well as local performances.

Here’s two songs I think you will enjoy.

Exclusive Interview: Fight From Above

[youtube -rC_Ctub9aA]

It’s finally here, as we promised, the exclusive interview with up-and-coming, Los Angeles-based, alternative rock group Fight From Above. This interview was filmed outside of the legendary Viper Room on the Sunset Strip  on October 1st just minutes before they took the stage to perform their 2nd annual “Kill Summer” show.

I did not know much about FFA before I did this interview but I have listened to a lot of their songs and I really enjoy them. Expect to hear more awesome tracks by them in the near future!
