Hidden Gem: Golden Coast – “Comeback Kid” *Smooth Electronic Pop

October 13th, 2016 by | Electropop, Hidden Gem, Pop |

Golden Coast is officially on my radar with the release of their new single, “Comeback Kid”. The track sports the best of everything this duo has to offer: a dance-able beat, hooky leads, anthemic sing-along breaks and just the right amount of head nod; I LOVE it!

A little more on the band from their publicist:

Golden Coast conjures up its California namesake with danceable drums, sunny synths, verby guitars and just enough rasp in the falsetto to offset the levity. The duo made the trek from the mountains of Colorado and the San Jacinto desert to Los Angeles nearly a decade ago, met in college while producing and writing for various artists before finally deciding to team up and release a project of their own. Golden Coast combines the best of both their skill-sets: a mixture of electronic and organic instruments, tight production, and sanguine themes set to no shortage of instantly hooky melodies.

Golden Coast gives us another indie pop gem with “Comeback Kid.” The second single off of their debut EP set to be released in November, this track sports the best of everything the band has to offer. If any of the other songs on the EP are half as infectious, we’ve got a pretty good feeling about this.

These guys are hidden gems because that’s not their only great track I dig, “Recess” also shows off their smooth electronic pop vibes and I see big potential from this duo! I first discovered the LA-based duo last year with “Futurist” and was hooked. So check out “Recess” and “Futurist” below.

August 14th, 2014 by | Alternative/Indie, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Dance, Disco, Electro, Electronic Dance Music, Electronic Rock, Electropop, House, synthpop |

This Saturday August 16 marks the 3rd annual Pacific Festival which will be held at The Dunes in Newport Beach, California. It’s a great location with DJs and bands performing on or near the beach, there should be beautiful weather present and hopefully a laid back fun ambiance in what should be a very fun one-day music festival. This will be my third time attending the Southern California festival in which I’ve discovered some real talented artists. Here’s the set times:

Below are the six acts I’m most excited to see on Saturday (purchase tickets here)! (more…)

Review: Go Go Bizkitt! and The Phantom’s Revenge at @TheCentralSAPC

November 27th, 2012 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Concert/Festival Review, Dance, Disco, Electro, House, Remix |

Last Wednesday, I experienced the funky sounds of Go Go Bizkitt! and The Phantom’s Revenge at The Central SAPC in Santa Monica, CA. Both DJs were awesome with Go Go Bizkitt spinning that funky disco house vibes all night while The Phantom’s Revenge played mostly disco house with some trap music and some electro vibes. One of my favorite parts of this dance party show was hearing both of the acts remix Daft Punk.

Stream some of my favorite songs from the two rising DJs below.

The Freshmen – Crickets *smooth hip-pop

May 6th, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Here’s some smooth hip-pop from California music duo The Freshmen. We’ve been following them since 2010 and their music always seems to mature with the quality of it’s sound. With “Crickets” it’s all about the smooth vibes from them.

Sorry to rant but when will record labels hear their feel-good hip-pop vibe sound and give these guys a record deal? Here’s more about the song “Crickets”, which has a real interesting concept behind it. (more…)

Hidden Gem: Polaris At Noon *Electronic, Dance, Pop, Rock

February 3rd, 2012 by | Dance, Electronic Dance Music, Hidden Gem, Pop, Rock |

I discovered Polaris At Noon original music after attending Bootleg Bar in Los Angeles. Specifically they were the openers to the show, but we missed seeing them perform but did grab their EP, En Pointe (iTunes), on the way out. The next day, I put the CD in my car and was amazed at how awesome and unique their sound is.

This Costa Mesa, CA band is led by Jason Suwito, who has guided Polaris at Noon with a sound that seamlessly fuses electronic music with pop/rock. The music has garnered great esteem from fans of The Sounds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MSTRKRFT, and more. Personally I would compare them to a mixture of up-and-comer Capital Cities and Charlotte rock band Paper Tongues.

I love all the songs on their 5-track EP, En Pointe and highly recommend purchasing it! So below, stream and download some of the 11 tracks Polaris has uploaded to their soundcloud.

However, not giving you at least 1 song to download from their EP would not be right, so DOWNLOAD “On”, my favorite from the EP.

Make sure to follow Polaris at Noon on facebook and twitter!

City By Storm – Sleeping With The Devil *Alternative/Punk Rock

October 8th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Rock |

Shout out to Lauren from Hungry Mind Entertainment for telling me about City By Storm an Alternative & Punk band from the OC with a sound that reminds me of Rise Against but less hard rock.

My favorite City By Storm track is “Sleeping With The Devil”, I’m more a fan of the upbeat rocking instrumentals than lyrics about sleeping with the devil, but if you can get around that or enjoy that, then you will really like this song. Here’s “Sleeping With The Devil”.

With a loaded lineup headlined by Snoop Dogg & Cut Copy and artists such as Calvin Harris, Phantogram, Ghostland Observatory, Steve Aoki, Fred Falke, Bag Raiders, The C90’s, !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk) on the schedule, there was no better place to be on August 13th, 2011 than Oak Canyon Ranch in Orange County, California. Having VIP Backstage access was sure to make it epic. What follows is just that. E.P.I.C.

GoldenWest update *4 new super-future songs!

June 16th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

GoldenWest is one of those super-future bands that are on their way to mainstream attention. If you are not following them on facebook and twitter yet, I highly recommend you do so as they have been on a free-track binge, giving the world dope new tracks about almost weekly. GoldenWest is also the owner of our most-commented blog post as they sampled one of my favorite Bibio tracks in “Lovers Name”.

Out of the last 6 or 7 tracks they have released since May, there’s four which I am a big fan of. Get more of their music off their website.
GoldenWest – Live Forever
GoldenWest – Don’t Stop (Sun Drop)
GoldenWest – Fuck You, I’m From California
GoldenWest – Smoke Makes Love

After the jump, watch this compilation video of all the best (and worst) parts of California but mostly Los Angeles. (more…)

Loggy – “The Dream” *A Must Listen Electro/Hip-Hop Jam

January 25th, 2011 by | Electro, Hip-Hop/Rap |

[youtube Ge8Y5xJe-X8]

Loggy is back and with a new club hit called “The Dream”. The California rapper recorded this track on a trip to a L.A. and  has now taken his talents to the next level with this one. He too has changed it up quite a bit doing what a lot of hip-hop artists have been doing recently, which is adding a club/dubstep/house feel to their tracks which I love and am taking full advantage of. This track was produced by sirThomas with Ana Villafane on the hook, adding a catchy feel to the track. Look out for more Loggy tracks in the near future.
