Sampled Saturday *G-Eazy, Dean and Ravo, Cam Meekins, BliSS, Chris Young

March 26th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Remix, Sampled Saturday |

Not only useless but dumb! Yep that’s Kim Kardashian, my co-workers kept talking about her today so I had to post a picture that makes her look ugly. It’s been long overdue since I have done sampled saturday so let’s get right to it.

First we got G-Eazy who is one of the few rappers to sample non-mainstream indie music. I’m not always the biggest fan of chill rap songs, but the instrumentals are dope in how they flipped the original song by Jai Paul, “BTSU” to become G-Eazy’s “Kings”. Chill rap that’s different because of dope sampling and good rhymes.

Next we got Dean and Ravo with “Finally” which samples Journey‘s “Faithfully”, not the song most of you would expect. This came off Dean and Ravo debut mixtape, A to B (download), a solid debut effort but leaving me wanting more from this hip-hop duo.

A teenage white rapper from suburbia, yep I’m skeptical. However Cam Meekins has a couple catchy songs but also some laughable songs (“Tonight“). In “I’m Bored” he samples Jason Mraz and adds in some nice clap beats for a fairly dope song. If you like Meekins, download his latest mixtape, 1993.

This song comes as a submission from BliSS who samples the melody to “Magic” by B.o.B. “Pussy Music Alcohol (P.M.A.)” is frat rap compared to “Magic” and it’s enjoyable although the original is on a different level even though it got overplayed on the radio.

Lastly comes a hip-hop song I heard back in late January that samples indie band Cults. Chris Young The Rapper has potential (he’s under Cisco Adler’s record label) and I think he will only get better with more experience.

Cam Meekins – “Prettier Things”

February 22nd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Earlier today, Cam Meekins dropped another single called “Prettier Things” which is off is upcoming mixtape, 1993, which drops on March 1st. Big Jerm is on the boards in this track with a relaxed tune and solid rapping by Cam. This isn’t my favorite of what I have heard off 1993 so far. However, I still look forward to next week when the entire mixtape releases. Enjoy!

Cam Meekins dropped his newest single “Livin’ It Up” off his much anticipated upcoming mixtape, 1993. He decided to drop it today because his facebook status got over 500 likes and Cam was in a great mood because of it. All in all a great song and I see a bright future for this 17 year old. Enjoy!

Cam Meekins has just released a new single called “Comes To An End” off his upcoming mixtape, 1993. At 17 years old, Cam Meekins has already begun making a name for himself. He still has a long way to go but this new track shows me signs of great promise for him in the near future. It provides great instrumentals, with Cam killing it on the rapping and the hook. He is versatile and I look forward to hear more new music by him as it gets closer to the release of 1993 on March 1st.

Frank Fetti “Pre-Game Anthem” + exclusive Q&A

September 17th, 2010 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Late last night I got a new track from Frank Fetti featuring Cam Meekins, “Pre-Game Anthem”. Also been doing some email’s back and forth with his producer, CT Ike, who has produced all the tracks for Frank’s upcoming mixtape Sex Drugs & Automobiles, dropping October 11.

Download: Frank Fetti – “Pre-Game Anthem” ft. Cam Meekins

Here’s a brief Q&A; I did with Frank Fetti:

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?

“pretty much after i heard marshall mathers LP. I never knew music could be made like that. It was so intense and filled with emotion. So i started writing after i heard that in like 6th grade. Doing what ever artist does, and trying to emulate Eminem”

What are your musical influences?

“Jay Z, Eminem , LL cool j, Michael Jackson, 2Pac, Cam’ron, Rakim, Nas, Lil Wanye, and Dmx. Dmx “its dark and hell is hot” is the first album i really listened to.”

What should we expect on his upcoming mixtape? Any big differences between the upcoming mixtape and his last one, Birth of a Salesman?

“First of all birth of a salesman, was jus me trying to find my self as an artist. If u listen to that mixtape you can pick out my influences from track to track pretty much. but thats how everyone starts you know? SDA is more like 100 percent of what im about. I love 80s rock, and i wanted to take those sounds and incorporate them in a hip hop fashion. The whole Mixtape is produced by my producer CT Ike. And basically we took mad 80s songs and sampled them. CT Gave me full control of the sound of the mixtape and i think people are gonna be really surprised to hear an inner city black kid with a different vision of what being a hip hop artist means.”

Hope you enjoy Frank Fetti’s music and check back here for his upcoming mixtape.
