The GTW, also known as Greater Than Wealth, is an upcoming rapper/singer/producer based in Chicago and managed by the same chick who got G-Eazy where he is today. I was on the fence when initially hearing The GTW last year but have heard much progress in his new tracks, which are more diverse, not the typical chill hip-hop that was popularized in the 90′s and overall each song songs different from the next.

Malik “Ex-Cell” Lowery was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. “Yesterdays Remembered” was Ex-Cell‘s first solo mixtape, it was released in the summer of 2011. Shortly after Ex-Cell started working on his second tape “Once Upon a Rhyme“. This tape was a mix of remixes to some studio beats and of course some original tracks.
Ex-Cell has a flow that is truly on point and backs it up with some real lyrics. He rhymes about relationships, worldly issues and his personal experiences without using profanity. Ex-Cell is a talent that has not yet scratched the surface or fully tapped into his potential as a musician. Stay Tuned!
Check out my favorite song by Ex-Cell entitled “Hands On The Wheel (Remix)” below. (more…)
Jordan Atkins-Loria, also known by his stage name Lucky Date, is a Chicago based Producer/DJ who is making some serious waves in the EDM industry. Originally hailing from California, Lucky Date has a great vibe emanating from his tracks. His style feels like a crossover between Porter Robinson and Skrillex with some sick electro synths and melodies thrown in. That is the best I can do to describe this awesome producer, his style is very unique and that’s a good thing.
Lucky Date is currently preparing to kick off the X-Tour with the likes of Excision and Liquid Stranger, two heavy hitters in the EDM world. He has done official remixes for The Crystal Castles, Greenskeepers, Richard Vission, Trash Yourself, Alex Kidd USA, Vhs or Beta, Lazy Rich, Frederik Olufsen, Zedd, and many others. He also works as a synth engineer providing the sounds behind some of the worlds biggest names including David Guetta. It’s time to get on board with Lucky Date cause his stock is rising at an exponential rate.
The trio known as Krewella hails from the great city of Chicago, and have been on a fast track to the big time ever since their release of “One Minute“, their electro infused dubstep banger, that screams “dance your face off”. These guys have the proper blend of pop and dubstep that is becoming extremely popular with mainstream artists and fans around the world; Krewella just might do it better than anybody out there.
This is their most recent release, “Killin It”, and it only proves further that these three are going places. “Killin It” has awesome synths backed up by that popular, Skrillex created, talking drum sound, and awesome vocals; she has the voice of an angel no joke.
This is a seriously good track, and y’all would be fools not to download this one. You can download this track by “Liking” Krewella on Facebook.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Common is far from an up & comer, but I could not disregard the incredible energy off this track. I don’t know how I did not see this a little earlier, but this goes hard. I’m a long time fan Common, and this track put a modern twist on the classic Chi-city hip hop he first demanded attention with. By the way, I’m loving the Electric Light Orchestra sample!
Shout out to Weapons of Audio for telling me about Hey Champ, a Chicago trio that has genre-blending sound with an electronic-base. Hey Champ actually has a connection to Lupe Fiasco and has gained praise from many other Chicago contemporary artists including The Cool Kids (featured below). However with the connections and work they have done with mainstream artists, their music hasn’t achieved the success they deserve.
Here’s a little bit about Hey Champ‘s sound which I got off their facebook:
The band incorporates influences from disco, house and indie rock, while combining the raw energy of Cheap Trick and the synth-heavy productions of Giorgio Moroder and Trevor Horn.
They do originals and remixes so for this post I will give you three favorites that are Hey Champ originals. Anything at All by Hey Champ
After much anticipation, Na Palm finally dropped his newest project Late At Night yesterday. We’ve already heard a couple of his newest tracks which have leaked over the course of this summer which have shown promise. However, a three of the tracks on this mixtape are just remixes of songs he has done in the past. That is a little bit of a buzz kill to me but his newest stuff is actually pretty solid.
He has a lot of versatility on this mixtape, providing a wide variety of genres from hip-hop, dubstep/electronic, pop, and even a couple of laid back tracks. Na Palm still has a way to go but he is getting better. Enjoy a few of the tracks below off of Late At Night which I enjoy, hopefully you do too.

Two new songs from Rockie Fresh that popped up in the last couple months. This fall Rockie Fresh is releasing a new project and recently he released a trailer for it with a snippet from the unreleased track “No Fear”. But before I show you the video to that, here’s a couple new tracks from Rockie Fresh, which have a chill feel but show his serious flow. In “They Don’t Understand Why” Remix, Rockie gets Tayyib Ali on the track, two up-and-comers who should be strongly considered for XXL Freshmen 2012. Listen and download “They Don’t Understand Why” Remix and “Sour”, which has an interestingly slick beat.
JAMS is a 17 year old MC from the suburbs of Chicago. Recently he dropped his 2nd mixtape, The Sky Is My Canvas (DOWNLOAD). JAMS shows his versatility with a wide variety of tracks on this tape.
With his 3rd tape already in the works and tours in the near future, JAMS isn’t just another kid to sleep on. With a surprisingly authentic and mature hip hop state of mind and an ambitious work ethic, JAMS is far from just another kid.
