November 21st, 2016 by | Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Music Video, Rock |

So I’m honored to share that I attended my first “country” concert as I saw alternative/folk country artist, Sturgill Simpson slay at The Wiltern last Wednesday! Even though he is considered a country music artist, he jammed out for over 2 hours performing large chunks of his discography which includes covers to Led Zepellin, The Allman Brothers, Nirvana and much more!

As my first so-called “country” concert there’s some things I need to share with you about it below.

Hidden Gem: Saints of Valory *upbeat alternative Pop/Rock

April 8th, 2014 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Hidden Gem, Music Video, Pop, Rock |

I don’t know how I discovered this band, I just found four of their songs on my iTunes that I downloaded in December and finally got to. But wow, Saints of Valory‘s four song Possibilities EP is some great upbeat fun that I enjoy very much! This rock/alternative/pop band signed to Atlantic Records and are a hit!

Stream the Saints of Valory‘s Possibilities EP to understand the hype, my favorites are “Kids”, “Long Time Coming” and “Back Up”.

Oh wait, now I remember how I might have discovered them! When I was really into “Royals” covers, I think I came across theres and became a fan of the band. Watch their Saints of Valory‘s acoustic cover to “Royals”, the harmonized vocals are hot and makes you want to sing along to Lorde‘s catchy lyrics!

The live sessions are recorded twice a month at Le Baron Chinatown in New York.

Hidden Gem: American Authors *the next Imagine Dragons?

October 25th, 2013 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Pop, Rock |

A group less electronic and more upbeat than Imagine Dragons, the American Authors are about to become huge mainstream acts with alternative pop/rock hits “Believer” and “Best Day Of My Life”. They’ve gotten placements in various large-scale and nationwide commercials as they have this upbeat alternative pop/rock sound that will take them far. In fact, if I were Imagine Dragons I’d bring American Authors on tour with them worldwide as everybody will dig their positive vibes before Imagine Dragons set things off with their dramatic yet uplifting vibes in the alt pop/rock variety.

Anyways, follow American Authors they will be on mainstream radio sooner than you think! Stream American Authors EP and their cover to Lorde‘s “Royals”.

There’s no way you didn’t like what you heard above, so like American Authors on Facebook! I realize they might already be considered mainstream but it’s Friday and I want to spread the weekend love with positive vibe music.

Download: Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees covered by Jhameel

August 17th, 2012 by | Pop |

Jhameel recently posted a cover of his absolute favorite song, the Bee Gee’s Stayin’ Alive. I like the dark, moody atmosphere he put on this one, it digs into a more desperate interpretation of the words ‘Stayin’ Alive’ and modernizes the song from it’s 70’s recession roots and puts into a new 2012 recession context.

Capital Cities cover ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’

August 16th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Electronic Rock, Electropop, Pop |

Working on covers is a sacred exercise for Capital Cities. They meticulously pick songs that they love and then explore them until new harmonic and rhythmic ideas emerge, hopefully bringing a freshness to a timeless melody and lyric.

With “Nothing Compares 2 U”, Capital Cities has this smooth electro pop/rock vibe that anybody can like. It’s no wonder Perez Hilton considers these dudes the “best band in Los Angeles”!

Stream and download “Nothing Compares 2 U” below.

Here’s some info on the original song and how it became popular:

Covers from Manicanparty, Minus Ned and Strange Talk

June 27th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Music Video, Pop, Rock |

Three covers from three very different electric sounding music groups that everybody needs to follow. One group I’ve been a huge fan since 2010, (Strange Talk), another I’ve been a fan of since early this year (Manicanparty), and another I became a fan of today (Minus Ned).

Watch/listen to the three cover songs below in which Manicanparty covers Miike Snow, Minus Ned covers Talking Heads and Strange Talk covers The Police, all groups I absolutely dig covered by three acts I’m loving lately. (more…)

Hidden Gem: Superhumanoids *alternative pop

May 13th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Music Video, Pop |

I recently came across a fantastic LA based band called Superhumanoids. These guys do a great job of creating unique tunes blending indie rock, dream pop, and electronic sounds that are relaxing and even give the listener a touch of nostalgia. I was obviously stoked to see they’re currently touring with another awesome LA band, Active Child. View the rest of the tour schedule here.

Right now I’m really digging the track “Geri” off their upcoming LP, Exhibitionists. Listen and download that plus their most recent track, “Too Young For Love”.

I also love their music video “Mikelah”, which you should view below. (more…)

DWNTWN – “I’m On Fire” *Bruce Springsteen Cover

May 3rd, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Electropop |

One of my favorite electro-pop duos, DWNTWN, has created a cover to Bruce Springsteen’s hit “I’m On Fire”. I have grown very fond of this group over the last few months and really appreciate how they are able to recreate a classic into their own style so successfully. Expect big things from DWNTWN throughout the rest of this year and beyond!
