January 5th, 2012 by | Chill/Jam/Reggae, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Hey kids,
I just caught wind of this new Cris Cab jam. I am personally a huge Cab fan, and this new song “One Thing” does not dissapoint. It has that lovely island, reggae-pop sound to it and finds a way to get stuck in your head easily. Look for new release, Echo Boom, on January 31st.

Enjoy:

Five new covers from artists ranging from Reggae to rock and much of what’s in between.

First we go with Cris Cab‘s reggae/jam cover to Foster The People‘s “Pumped Up Kicks”. I like how the chill vibes and overall Cris Cab gives it a new sound which is refreshing since the only thing I hear with “Pumped Up Kicks” these days is remixes and the song being played all over the radio. Watch the music video here.

I got mixed reactions when I played this to the Weapons of Audio fam recently. However it’s kind of catchy, the ginger is interesting but overall some of you might be passing on this shit. However, Neon Hitch‘s vocals are all over the place, slows the song up and takes out the dubstep. The song is more minimalistic than the original, the lyrics sound even more dumb and after writing a few sentences on this cover, I may be less a fan. Watch the music video for the cover, it makes it better.

Neon Hitch – Gucci Gucci

PJ Simas is killing it among the white boy acoustic guitar rappers. If you can’t think of any others in that category, trust me when I say PJ Simas is talented and might be a better producer than performer. However he puts an acoustic chilled out version of Mac Miller‘s “Frick Park Market” which is real nice to relax to.

PJ Simas – Frick Park Market

I’m a fan of Tokyo Police Club so when I saw this LCD Soundsystem cover they did, I immediately became a fan. It picks up real nicely and since LCD isn’t releasing new music, this is refreshing. Really liking the alternative & punk vibe.

Tokyo Police Club – All My Friends

Lastly comes a cover by one of my all-time favorite rock bands, Weezer. They cover The Band‘s “The Weight”, one of the best classic rock songs of all-time. “The Weight” is also one of those songs that seems really easy to sing when your drunk but it’s not, trust me, I have tried to sing the lyrics to this song drunk but stumbled in so many ways.

Too big for hidden gem: Cris Cab + Eddy B & Tim Gunter remix

May 17th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Been waiting too long on giving Cris Cab this hidden gem post although by the time I am writing this post, Cris Cab is closing in on 10,000 facebook fans and headlining shows around the US. Just to think a big reason he blew up to where he is now, was from a reggae/accoustic cover of “Black & Yellow” then a similarly done cover of “All of the Lights”.

Anyway, here’s his “All of the Lights” cover, an original called “Good Girls”, a chill acoustic hip-pop track that reminds me of recent singer/songwriter Dave Patten.

Cris Cab – All of the Lights (Kanye West Cover)
Lastly Eddy B & Tim Gunter remixed “Good Girls” with some rap verses but keeping the dope instrumentals and the quality vocals from Cris Cab.

Uh oh, more “Black & Yellow” remixes. However the above song is an awesome cover by Cris Cab with a reggae feel.

Anyways, the first song below is the dope alternative/reggae cover by Cris Cab (video above). I love the acoustic guitar, the reggae drums and overall the different direction Cris Cab takes it.

Then we got 3 mashups, a superbowl mashup from Mother Earth Remixes, The Hood Internet mixing “Black & Yellow” with The Go! Team and Cake Effect mashing “Black & Yellow” with Rusko.
