Review: Steed Lord and Flower Drums live at Los Globos

April 1st, 2014 by | Alternative/Indie, Ambient, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Dance, Electropop, synthpop |

Last Thursday I saw international music coming to LA in the form of Iceland’s best electro dance pop trio Steed Lord and Australian psychedelic/dream pop band Flower Drums at Los Globos in Silverlake, California. The Icelandic hipsters were out in full force supporting Iceland band Steed Lord and although it wasn’t the largest crowd until the headliner Steed Lord got everybody dancing, it was still a fun show filled with new songs I have come to enjoy.

Not so Hidden Gem: Alphabeat

December 8th, 2010 by | Dance, Pop |

Alphabeat are one of my favorite dance music group’s out there. Reason they are not really a hidden gem is they have over 80,000 fans on facebook and are probably the most popular Danish artists right now. However their music has mostly been really popular in Europe and this year they finally made their debut in the US.

They make really enjoyable dance-pop tracks and I hope you enjoy the ones below.

Matt & Kim – “Cameras”

September 2nd, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Electropop, Pop, Rock |

I didn’t start getting interested in Matt & Kim until I heard “Daylight” as I hadn’t heard too much about them before that. After hearing “Daylight” and the recent song “Cameras”, I’m now a huge fan.

Matt & Kim are a dance-punk/electropop group  that formed in 2004. Currently they are in the studio mixing the follow up to Grand, their second album released in 2009 through Fader Label. They are releasing their third album, Sidewalks, on November 2.

Below download “Cameras”, the first single off their upcoming album, “Camera & Shutterbugs”, a mashup with one of Big Boi’s latest songs. Also listen and download “Daylight”.  Matt & Kim – Cameras by Brian Gaffey  Matt & Kim – Daylight by user3801503  Cameras & Shutterbugs (Big Boi vs. Matt & Kim) by dwhitehead

Robyn & Snoop

August 10th, 2010 by | Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Miscellaneous, Pop |

Two artists you wouldn’t see working together have collaborated on two songs: “U Should Know Better” by Robyn featuring Snoop Dogg and before that they did a remix to “Sensual Seduction” with Robyn featured in it. Snoop Dogg hasn’t had the biggest success lately with his album releases, but since he started getting featured from artists ranging from Gorillaz and Robin Thicke to Katy Perry and Robyn, the songs have turned into hits.

For those who don’t know, Robyn is a swedish singer-songwriter who was known in the late nineties for some dance-pop hits. She started to gain mainstream success worldwide with her #1 hit single “With Every Heartbeat” and album release. Body Talk Pt. 2 is due for release in September, a follow up to Body Talk Pt. 1, released in June 2010 and in December she is expected to release Speak Your Body: Body Talk Pt. 3.

Robyn is the next pop artist I see hitting it big in 2011 and the Snoop Dogg feature definately helps, as he is one of the best west-coast hip-hop artists.
