Festival Review: Lollapalooza 2011 (Sunday August 7th)

August 14th, 2011 by | Chill/Jam/Reggae, Hip-Hop/Rap, House, Rock |

Finally, I’ve saved the best for last; day 3 of Lollapalooza 2011. Wow what a way to wrap up a great weekend with The Cool Kids, The Cars, Sam Adams, Nas & Damian Marley, and of course Deadmau5. I didn’t have time to see Kid Cudi or The Foo Fighers perform that day, but still I could not ask for more from yet another awesome day.

The only downside to Sunday’s events was that it was pouring rain on and off throughout the day. However, that did not stop me from enjoying great live music.

I started my day with The Cool Kids at the ever popular Perry’s stage. They put on a great show and being from Chicago and all, the crowd was really into them. They have really started to grow on me in recent months and I like them even more now that I saw how awesome they are live. They played a variety of tracks especially from their newest upcoming album, When Fish Ride Bicycles. One of their tracks from the album that I enjoyed hearing live is below, enjoy!

The Cool Kids “Swimsuits” (featuring Mayer Hawthorne) (Download):

After a great set by The Cool Kids, I made my way towards The Cars at the Music Unlimited stage for some great classic tunes. This rock band from the 1970’s performed in a very relaxing environment which was awesome. Chilling on the hills, sipping on cold beer and listening to songs like their big hit “Just What I Needed” was a moment I will never forget. Enjoy the track below.

Afterwards I headed over to the BMI stage to see Boston rapper Sam Adams perform for a little. It was very delayed due to heavy rain storms. Their were high school girls sliding around in the mud wait for Boston’s Boy to come on stage. After having to wait roughly 20 minutes for him, he eventually came on and actually put on a pretty solid show.

He may be a little overrated but something is there for him. He does put on a good show which I find to be very important for being successful as an artist. Check out one song below that I thought he did an exceptional job on. Enjoy!

Sam Adams – “Watch Out” (Prod. J.O.B) (Download)

Close to the BMI stage was the Bud Light stage where Nas & Damian Marley were tearing it up. They were on for over an hour and they even performed many of Nas’ old tracks which are my favorites. The chill vibes from the set culminating with the chicago skyline brought everyone there some memorable moments. Check out one of my favorites of theirs below. Enjoy!

Nas & Damian Marley – “Nah Mean” (Download)

Shortly after Nas & Damian Marley finished up their set. Deadmau5 came on to wrap up a great weekend of Lollapalooza. Unfortunately, the second he came on stage, it started pouring rain once again. However, that did not stop Deadmau5 from rocking out like he always does and with lots of style too.

This had been the second time I have seen him live and it certainly won’t be the last. He puts on an amazing show and I could not ask for a more perfect way to end an incredible weekend. It didn’t even matter that the rain was there. Enjoy my new favorite song by him that I cannot stop playing on replay!

Five 2010 Bangers!

June 11th, 2011 by | Dance, Drum & Bass, Dubstep, House |

So don’t laugh at me but 2011 I finally comprehended how awesome and complex electronic music is. After talking with producers, DJ’s and friends that are huge fans, I totally understand that if you sit back and listen to electronica music (preferably with at least good speakers and a strong bass), then you can really enjoy how amazing some of it it.

Recently I downloaded a bunch of electronic music songs and realized some of them were from 2010 but that I like so much, I need to make sure you all have these songs. So here’s 5 this week and depending on the reaction I get from this (leave comments please!), then I can give you more of these next weekend.

Let’s start out with one of my favorites, Deadmau5, with “Baths”. One of the best…

Next we ge drum & bass and more dance beats with “Tonight” by Danny Byrd featuring Netsky on vocals. Rage!

Next we go with Skrillex and 12th Planet with a lot of dubstep. Mind-melting.

Diplo remixes “Four Floors” by Sunday Girl. The instrumentals Diplo creates feel so pure.

Lastly, maybe my favorite song of these five is Avicii & Sebastien Drums “My Feelings For You”. I can listen to this song almost everywhere and love it.

Mashup Monday: Hood Internet + BBU

March 28th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Mashup, Mashup Monday |

The Hood Internet are one of the premier 2-3 song mashup artists. Last month they released The Mixtape Volume Five, a 30 song mashup mixtape of dope mashups. Most of them I already had and/or had posted already but here’s 2 from the mashup mixtape that I really liked. Download the mixtape on mediafire.
The Hood Internet – Back You [Cee-Lo Green x Sir Mix-a-Lot]

The Hood Internet – Dougie Vision (Cali Swag District x Toro Y Moi)
Here’s the latest Hood Internet mashup I love with Quad City DJ’s over some Deadmau5, crank that shit to 11! Next is a mashup with the Regulators over some Toro Y Moi, it’s a smooth criminal of a mashup, but it’s not guilty of sounding bad.
The Hood Internet – Ride Some Chords (Quad City DJs x Deadmau5)
The Hood Internet – Still Regulating (Warren G & Nate Dogg x Toro Y Moi)
If your reading this post and don’t want to hear another mashup look no further than below! The Hood Internet produced a song that BBU and Das Racist rapped on. The beat is hot, the lyrics are random and kind of funny; overall a cool alternative hip-hop track.

Electronic Tuesdays Start Here

March 15th, 2011 by | Dance, Dubstep, Electronic Tuesday, House, Trance |

Hey guys. I’m Sarah, from ChinUp Music over yonder in the blog-o-sphere. I’ll be giving you your Electronic Tuesdays hype up. A great way to start the week, in my opinion. And don’t worry, I’ll always give you a heads up on before the jump. For this first post, I’m going to introduce you to the classic electronic/house artists out there.

I’m going to do 3 artists per post so as not to overwhelm anyone (or myself). I’m not going to go through the first. original, influential ones from the 80s – house music has come such a long way that they almost don’t fit into house anymore. They were DJs who experimented with a certain style of beats to create a genre that would eventually branch out into Dubstep, Trance, Techno, Electronica, and more. Today, those artists include Deadmau5, Benny Benassi and Paul Oakenfold (King of Trance).

This mashup came out about a year ago but it is definitely worth posting. This track provides a great blend of Outkast’s classic song “Bombs Over Baghdad” and Deadmau5 “Ghosts n’ Stuff”. I love both songs and they have been favorites of mine for years so it is nice to see a mashup with both. Happy New Year to everyone and make sure to live it up tonight. Enjoy!

In the spirit of halloween, I found this mashup between the Ghostbuster’s theme song by Ray Parker Jr. vs a Deadmau5 track. Enjoy!

Deadmau5 – “Raise Your Weapon”

September 23rd, 2010 by | Dance, Dubstep, Electro |

The track is nine minutes, a little long for my standards but it has great vocals and Deadmau5 doing dubstep for the 1st time. Plus it’s combined with Deadmau5 awesome electro! Thanks to FonC for the track. Your Weapon
