Dean and Ravo themselves sent us over this new promo video for their track “Where Am I” which is off their upcoming project, due to drop this winter. This duo further shows here how talented they are and I look forward to what is next by them. They mentioned that they plan to drop their first official single off this project within the next 2 weeks. If it is anything similar to what this promo video is like, than I am very excited. For more music by the duo be sure to check out their official website, Facebook fan page and to follow them on twitter. Enjoy!
Should have blogged about this when I got it last week but here’s the latest from Dean and Ravo. This time they get pop artist Josh Cocktail on it to form a strong collaboration for a real chill hip-pop song.
Once again it’s time for another edition of Best You Never Heard. This time were nearing the end of Spring and into one of my favorite seasons of the year, Summer. Shouts to Jann at SPR with the cover art. As a guideline, we made sure none of the artists chosen had more than 10,000 followers on facebook or twitter.
Listen and download 20 tracks from some of the best up-and-coming artists from a variety of our favorite genres as we present to you Best You Never Heard 3: end of Spring edition.
Not only useless but dumb! Yep that’s Kim Kardashian, my co-workers kept talking about her today so I had to post a picture that makes her look ugly. It’s been long overdue since I have done sampled saturday so let’s get right to it.
First we got G-Eazy who is one of the few rappers to sample non-mainstream indie music. I’m not always the biggest fan of chill rap songs, but the instrumentals are dope in how they flipped the original song by Jai Paul, “BTSU” to become G-Eazy’s “Kings”. Chill rap that’s different because of dope sampling and good rhymes.
Next we got Dean and Ravo with “Finally” which samples Journey‘s “Faithfully”, not the song most of you would expect. This came off Dean and Ravo debut mixtape, A to B (download), a solid debut effort but leaving me wanting more from this hip-hop duo. Dean and Ravo – Finally (feat. Mr. Crisis)
A teenage white rapper from suburbia, yep I’m skeptical. However Cam Meekins has a couple catchy songs but also some laughable songs (“Tonight“). In “I’m Bored” he samples Jason Mraz and adds in some nice clap beats for a fairly dope song. If you like Meekins, download his latest mixtape, 1993. Cam Meekins – I’m Bored
This song comes as a submission from BliSS who samples the melody to “Magic” by B.o.B. “Pussy Music Alcohol (P.M.A.)” is frat rap compared to “Magic” and it’s enjoyable although the original is on a different level even though it got overplayed on the radio. BliSS – Pussy Music Alcohol
Lastly comes a hip-hop song I heard back in late January that samples indie band Cults. Chris Young The Rapper has potential (he’s under Cisco Adler’s record label) and I think he will only get better with more experience. Chris Young X Cults – Most Wanted Remix
Four mashups from four mashups artists who have DJ in their name. First mashup is by one of my favorite mashup artists, DJ Bahler, who really knows how to make the most out of a song he is using in a mashup. He uses Tyler The Creator vocals and instrumentals with Gold Panda and Caribou in his latest mashup “Cellar Door” (song above). Download because DJ Bahler had the guts to use Tyler the Creator.Download “Cellar Door”
DJ PHRESH does more of a remix than a mashup when he uses upcoming hip-hop duo Dean & Ravo’s catchy song “Walkin’ Around” vs Capone. Not really sure who Capone is but I’m sure DJ Phresh used some of his vocals with Dean & Ravo. Solid electro instrumentals but I’m more a fan of the Dean & Ravo vocals.
I like DJ Ryno because he uses several songs pretty well and you can easily point out the songs he uses. However easily identifying the vocals and instrumentals also means the transitions are a bit slow but overall DJ Ryno is solid and if you like the mashup below, then you can download his last mashup mixtape, Nocturnal Concepts. Next to Last by DJ RYNO
DJ Invisiboy recently reached out to us and at first I didn’t like the mashups because it’s music ADD overload with how crazy some of his mashups are. However “Rawnald Where You At” is my favorite featuring Lil Wayne vocals overal Starf*cker‘s insanely catchy indie rock instrumentals which Invisiboy sped up.
Dean and Ravo personally e-mailed us thanks for our last post on them and sent us the link to their newest music video for “End of the Week”. Personally I like “Walkin’ Around” a bit more but “End of the Week” is still a very dope song and I can’t wait for more from the hip-pop duo.
Hip-Pop at it’s finest. I can’t say we came up with Hip-Pop but we have used it many times for some of our favorite artists we have posted about. Dean and Ravo is now among that list of our new favorite artists.
With a simple yet dope beat, “Walkin’ Around” (download) is a too-cool-for-summer song. For an up-and-coming alternative hip-hop duo, “Walkin’ Around” is an example of an artist putting together a dope original song. This is already one of my new favorite chill songs and I look forward to more from this New York City duo.
