Hidden Gem: Story of the Running Wolf *LA Electro duo

January 3rd, 2013 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Electro, Electropop, Hidden Gem, synthpop |

Story of the Running Wolf is an electro duo based out of Los Angeles, CA. A little bit retro, a little bit future, they blend 80’s influences like Depeche Mode and Duran Duran with modern electro-dance elements, creating an infectious sound that’s all their own. After playing their first show at a rooftop party in early 2012, the band began developing a live show experience which has been described as a “John Hughes party on Neptune”, replete with neon lasers, make-up, fog and feathers. Their new self-titled EP is available for free download at

They just dropped their first song/video from their debut EP, “Stratospheric”. Stream and download their EP below.

Watch the video to “Stratospheric” below. (more…)

They released their debut EP, Alone At The Bar Each song is catchier than the next and even a first time listener finds himself singing along immediately.

Stream and download their 5-track EP below. It’s a MUST-DOWNLOAD!

Make sure to like Purdue Avenue on facebook and attend their show at The Roxy on July 19 (tickets here).

New Kingdom – Naked Time EP

January 16th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Alternative/Indie, Rock |

My cousin Kevin told me about New Kingdom a couple years ago as Oren Yoel, keyboardist of New Kingdom, produced most of Asher Roth’s debut album, Asleep In The Bread Aisle, which I thought was a dope album that deserved more praise.

While Oren produced hip-hop material, New Kingdom is an alternative rock band from LA. However each of the four band members bring their own styles/tastes and New Kingdom has sounds of soul, pop, funk and hard rock. Additionally, New Kingdom has shared the stage with Asher Roth, B.o.B and Janelle Monae.

Recently they released their first project, Naked Time EP (download), and while I didn’t expect much, I was really blown away with how catchy and fun their music has become. Below are two of my favorite’s off the 7-track EP.

When Can I See You
