Hey Kids,

That Kid is an up & comer out of Denver, Colorado. You have seen his name up here a few times, because he is a talent you need not ignore. This EP is the first drop of the summer for That Kid, and does not disappoint. My favorite track off the tape is “Buttered.” But I might be biased, as I sing the hook. Each track has solid beats mixed with smart lyrics. You won’t find a hook that sings “Bitches, ho’s, give me some mo’.” This is good, smart hip/hop.

September 5th, 2011 by | Pop, Rock |

1552800729 1 Petals of Spain Lady LuckEvening audiophiles, I have a fresh new sound out of Denver, Colorado for you tonight. Some of you might have heard the band Air Dubai from a previous post here on BtB. The trumpet player from Air Dubai happens to be in another awesome band. That band is called, Petals of Spain and have a really good sound. This song “Lady Luck” comes in with an upbeat jazz-rock that mixes the class of a purist with a modern twist, and it does not disappoint.

Black Prez – Teach Me How To Dubby *freestyling on a mashup

artworks 000005775003 jujhmn t300x300 150x150 Black Prez Teach Me How To Dubby *freestyling on a mashupBlack Prez has been around the Denver rap scene since before Obama was elected to office. He has always been a good rapper but he only keeps getting better. Recently he has done some interesting remixes and mash-ups.

Check out his latest, “Teach Me How To Dubby”, where he raps over a mash up of Cali Swag District‘s ”Teach Me How to Dougie” and Bassnectar‘s “Basshead”.  Its two songs I couldn’t get enough of combined and revamped so I can relive the obsession all over again.

siegZ edit: It gets real hot at the 1:30 mark!

Flashlights – Hidden Behind Trees EP

August 12th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Ambient, Dance |

1320975016 11 Flashlights Hidden Behind Trees EPA lot of bands seem to be riding the “chillwave” these days, but I’m okay with it. I’ll take all the warm and fuzzy synth music I can get.

Flashlights are an experimental electronic/chillwave group from Denver, CO. Their second EP, Hidden Behind Trees was just released and can be streamed at the group’s bandcamp page. Each of the five tracks on this EP are seductive yet ambient.  Listening to these tracks is like being lulled into a body-encompassing dance. Flashlights are just the right amount of upper and just the right amount of downer.  Pretty chill and pretty fun!

Here’s a Lust remix to the song “New Hampshire”.

James Egbert – Isle of Capri

July 14th, 2011 by | Dance, House, Techno |

 James Egbert Isle of Capri

Shouts to ThisSongIsSick for promoting James Egbert, a sick producer out of Denver. He deserves all the accolades he’s been getting throughout the blogosphere. His latest single “Isle of Capri” is a full-on electronic dance party and this dude has serious skills. He drops eargasmic sounds as he builds the track up to a huge crescendo…and BOOM. The drop is massive. ThisSongIsSick compares Mr. Egbert to Porter Robinson, which I think is a great comparison. There’s some house, whomps, and funky synth beats. He combines all of the subgenres of techno into a great, original style, and absolutely kills the track. There’s also a tropical vibe to the whole song, which is what I imagine I beach party in Ibiza sounds like.

Follow Mr. Egbert on Twitter, and if you’re in Colorado, get to Global Dance Fest this weekend a little early and watch this dude open up the main stage on Friday.

Hidden Gem: The Chain Gang of 1974

June 21st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance, Hidden Gem |

ChainGang.Album .cover 600x532 Hidden Gem: The Chain Gang of 1974The Chain Gang of 1974 is a electronic/punk/pop band based out of Denver. I’m usually on the fence with them, meaning some tracks I like, while others I’m not interested in.

Today TCG 1974 (solid acronym right?) released The Wayward Fire, an album I think displays interesting sound that has a base in electronica with influences in 80′s pop, punk, and uses some cool synths. Overall I’m loving the instrumentals and the vocals are alright depending on who you ask. This is definitely an album worth checking out on iTunes. Here’s a couple of my favorites from the album.
