Ski Beatz – 24 Hour Karate School Pt. II (Review)

August 11th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

With all of the hype about Watch the Throne, producer Ski Beatz just released a sick album completely under the radar. 24 Hour Karate School Part II has the same format as its predecessor, where Ski cooks up his typical brand of jazzy, underground hip-hop, then invites some of the game’s fastest up-and-comers over to spit. It’s good shit.

If you remember from the last album, Ski had Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, and Stalley spit, all of whom had tremendous years so far. Ski has been in the game a long time and not only can he create great music, but he’s also serving as a tastemaker to feature artists that he likes, that a lot of people haven’t heard.

24 Hour Karate School part 1 had a few songs that were a little too out there for me, but Mr. Beatz’ latest work is full of solid tracks with none that I want to skip over. Each track features beats that you can’t hear anywhere else except from the man himself, and some of the hottest rappers killing it on each track. Highlights of mine are:

Ski Beatz – Illegal (Ft. Freddie Gibbs)

Ski Beatz – Moon Walkin’ (Ft. STS)

Ski Beatz is definitely a hidden gem in the hip-hop game and I highly recommend everyone go cop the album on itunes and follow the dude on Twitter to support.

David Dallas – The Rose Tint (mixtape)

August 6th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap |

What up everyone. Some of you may have already heard of David Dallas from when Kanye West gave him a shoutout last year, but earlier this summer he dropped “The Rose Tint.”  It’s one of my favorite albums of the summer. It’s got a different style to it which comes from his New Zealand background.

Download the album here and make sure to check out the hit “Caught in a Daze”:

Freddie Gibbs – “Stripes” (featuring Young Jeezy)

May 3rd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Just weeks after Freddie Gibbs signed with Young Jeezy’s record label, CTE, the two quickly collaborated on a new track called “Stripes”. Though I am not really a huge fan of the gangster rap, and the rapping is mediocre at best, it does have a catchy tune and a song that will get your head nodding a bit. Will should be seeing more tracks by Freddie Gibbs in the very near future. Enjoy!

Curren$y – “Scottie Pippen” (featuring Freddie Gibbs)

April 17th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Curren$y collaborates with Freddie Gibbs to create “Scottie Pippen”. With the Bulls making a statement so far in the playoffs, you may start hearing more tracks similar to this one. Check out Scottie Pippen straight dunking right over Patrick Ewing:

This track is a good one, with a solid beat and legit rapping by both Curren$y and Freddie Gibbs, this is sure one which you all will enjoy a lot!

Prospect of the Week: Freddie Gibbs

September 17th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Prospect of the Week |
Just to tell you a little bit about why Freddie Gibbs is this week’s Prospect of the Week: he was signed by Interscope Recrods before being let go from the deal without a record being released. Instead of going Charles Hamilton crazy (you can quote me on that) and putting out shitty mixtape after another, Gibbs put out an EP and a couple of solid mixtapes.
In between a couple of those mixtapes, Gibbs got signed by Decon Records. By the way Gibbs was featured on XXL Mag’s Freshmen 2010 list which includes Big Sean, Donnis, J. Cole and Wiz Khalifa to name a few.
Gibbs is from Gary, Indiana, currently based in SoCal, and has been hard at work putting out an EP to purchase, Str8 Killa, in early August. Then Freddie put out a mixtape, Str8 Killa No Filla, in mid-August.
While he has been in a few music videos for some of his hit songs on these releases, he has been working on his debut album, Baby-Faced Killa, set to drop later this year. Three releases in one year, that’s pretty good Mr. Gibbs.

Listen and download “Oil Money” feat. Chuck Inglish, Chip Tha Ripper, Bun B & Dan Auerbach and also listen and download “On One” and “Born to Roll”. Download links to latest mixtape and EP below. Freddie Gibbs – “Oil Money” Official Music Video

September 8th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video, R&B |
“Oil Money” is from Freddie Gibbs’ Str8 Killa EP which is on iTunes. Oil Money features Chuck Inglish (The Cool Kids), Chip Tha Ripper, Bun B & Dan Auerbach (Black Keys). The video is fairly laid-back, don’t see a lot of bling on the rappers who are all just hanging by a storefront in a SUV.

Prospect of the Week: Outasight

August 20th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Miscellaneous, Prospect of the Week |

Outasight – Catch Me If You Can from gregthedude on Vimeo.

Even though this rapper signed with a major record label in October 2009 with Warner Bros., Outasight is our Prospect of the Week because he hasn’t released a debut album yet, but is definately on the verge of becoming mainstream. Although Outasight is defined as a hip-hop artist, he has traces of rock, soul and some pop in the songs, which makes for a great genre-blending artist. The video above is the music video for the single, “Catch Me If You Can” from the Further EP and in 2010, Outasight collaborated with Asher Roth on the remix to the song.

On August 17, Outasight put out a mixtape, Never Say Never, which I really love and have included a link to below. This Yonkers, NY based musician will be releasing his debut album, From Here to Eternity in the Fall of 2010 (release date TBA).

Below I have included a few of my favorites by Outasight and download links to their latest mixtape (Never Say Never) and the Further EP, released in December ’09 and gained so much buzz that it isn’t free anymore 🙁  Outasight – Never Say Never – She’s Leaving Home by Hypetrak  Outasight – Never Say Never – Be Alright by Hypetrak  Outasight – Catch Me If You Can Remix (ft Asher Roth) by Tea N Muffin  Outasight – Never Say Never – Near The End (ft.
