New must-listen track from G-Eazy featuring Devon Baldwin‘s soft vocals adding to this hip-pop track. Here’s what G-Eazy had to say about the song:
“Mad” is about the fantasy of falling in love with a stranger at a party just by heavy eye contact; before any words are even exchanged. The track is set over a 60′s doo-wop melody with a trap infused beat. I’m always seeking to connect the culture, styles and sounds of classic 60′s pop music with today’s hip hop.
Next comes rapper G-Eazy who has been gaining lots of steam for his sampling of songs that NO OTHER RAPPERS touch. In “Lost In Translation”, he samples the Japanese Pop song, “PonPonPon”, once again providing solid flow over killer production with excellent use of sampling. However I want to see G-Eazy make more original music which could potentially elevate him to a status similar to Hoodie Allen. DOWNLOAD “Lost In Translation” Lost In Translation by g-eazy
Next comes Crossover Kidz, a duo that I want to see touring opening for The Dean’s List as they both come from Berklee College and have top-notch underrated production. In “Thrill of It”, they sampled, you guessed it, Empire of The Sun‘s “Walking On A Dream”. I love the original so it’s hard to ignore the Crossover Kidz sample of it. “Thrill of It” is off their latest project Grow Up, Kidz, which you can stream here. Download “Thrill of It”.
I’m a huge fan of iSH, having put his song “Tomorrow They Will” on BYNH 2 back in December 2010. He’s progressed much since then and I always look forward to more from the Toronto MC. In “So Long” he samples Carousel‘s “Here Now” and it really is a must-download, the original the the iSH version as well. This is off iSH‘s upcoming Long Days, Short Nights project.
Lastly is a newcomer to BtB, YYou. In “Take Me Home Tonight” he samples the Eddie Money classic of the same name. I love the original so it’s hard to ignore this as well, although I love the original a lot more as I think YYou can improve upon his rapping. This song is off YYou‘s OTF album, which you can stream and download here. YYou – Take Me Home Tonight (prod. by Jonathan Lee) by Yyoulives
All these artists have been featured on BtB before and all have immense talent that will take them places in the future.
G-Eazy put this track out a couple days ago which samples Janis Joplin. I like how he continues to sample classic music that has shaped the music that came after it. Eazy’s a throwback and “Mercedes Benz (The American Dream)” proves his talent and the production skills on this is fire. Mercedes Benz (The American Dream) ft. Janis Joplin by g-eazy (DOWNLOAD)
Gabriel Stark recently dropped Thursday In Australia, a mixtape which is heavy on freestyle over others beats and some simple sampling. However “Lets Enjoy The Party”, which samples “Hello” by Dragonette & Martin Solveig is real cool. He speeds up the original, throws some sick beats on it, and really shows his rap skills on this banger of an instrumental.
Lastly we go to Rhode Island rapper Ethan Jaymes with “Reebok Pumps”, which samples Foster The People. I know I know, too many people have sampled/remixed/mashed-up “Pumped Up Kicks”, but this has some added beats to it and Jaymes straight kills it on the beat. This comes off his Breakfast In Rhode Island mixtape, which we sponsored, so you know it’s dope!
I sampled primarily doo-wop and rock records from the late 50s early 60s on here, to give it a vintage sound, however I wanted to modernize it by mashing it up with hip-hop drums.
Listen and download G-Eazy‘s latest mixtape, The Endless Summer, below. This is a MUST-DOWNLOAD project as almost every song has this chill-hop vibe that sounds retro with the sampling but new with the rapping and other instrumentals in the production. The Endless Summer by g-eazy
A little late on the newest jams from G-Eazy. Been banging these two songs within the last two weeks and finally found some time to blog about his two latest songs. Once again, he has the dope yet subtle sampling where it doesn’t take away from his solid flow. G-Eazy continues to stand out among the many rappers out there and getting Team Robot andKAM Royal on these tracks only enhances the quality. Run ft. Team Robot Download “Run”
G-Eazy has this style where he samples chill indie songs and turns them into dope hip-hop jams. Yet he shows his dope chill flow putting together dope hip-hop productions. Not sure where I’m going with this except to say that I look forwar to more from G-Eazy and his growth as an artist. Here’s my 2 favorites from The Outsider (Download). Shout out to my boys over at This Bonus Track and GMAD for getting the sponsorship on this dope tape.
Not only useless but dumb! Yep that’s Kim Kardashian, my co-workers kept talking about her today so I had to post a picture that makes her look ugly. It’s been long overdue since I have done sampled saturday so let’s get right to it.
First we got G-Eazy who is one of the few rappers to sample non-mainstream indie music. I’m not always the biggest fan of chill rap songs, but the instrumentals are dope in how they flipped the original song by Jai Paul, “BTSU” to become G-Eazy’s “Kings”. Chill rap that’s different because of dope sampling and good rhymes.
Next we got Dean and Ravo with “Finally” which samples Journey‘s “Faithfully”, not the song most of you would expect. This came off Dean and Ravo debut mixtape, A to B (download), a solid debut effort but leaving me wanting more from this hip-hop duo. Dean and Ravo – Finally (feat. Mr. Crisis)
A teenage white rapper from suburbia, yep I’m skeptical. However Cam Meekins has a couple catchy songs but also some laughable songs (“Tonight“). In “I’m Bored” he samples Jason Mraz and adds in some nice clap beats for a fairly dope song. If you like Meekins, download his latest mixtape, 1993. Cam Meekins – I’m Bored
This song comes as a submission from BliSS who samples the melody to “Magic” by B.o.B. “Pussy Music Alcohol (P.M.A.)” is frat rap compared to “Magic” and it’s enjoyable although the original is on a different level even though it got overplayed on the radio. BliSS – Pussy Music Alcohol
Lastly comes a hip-hop song I heard back in late January that samples indie band Cults. Chris Young The Rapper has potential (he’s under Cisco Adler’s record label) and I think he will only get better with more experience. Chris Young X Cults – Most Wanted Remix
San Diego native G-Eazy hit us up with his latest track featuring Team Robot, “Right Now”. I don’t think “Right Now” is a better track than “Waspy” or “Good For Great” but still a solid track from rapper G-Eazy. I would love to hear this song as I am going up an elavator/stairs to an awesome party.
