Hodgy Beats & Tyler, The Creator – “NY (Ned Flander)” (Music Video)

March 6th, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

In celebration of Tyler, The  Creator‘s 21st birthday (which is today), Odd Future has decided to drop yet another music video called “NY (Ned Flander) off their much anticipated upcoming, Odd Future Vol. 2 mixtape. They continue to show here how talented (yet very bizarre) they are. Their music videos are absolutely hilarious and I look forward to the entire release of their new project. Enjoy!

Hodgy Beats – April 27th

June 6th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

The other day, Hodgy Beats from Odd Future put a new track, “April 27th” up on his tumblr. The track lasts less than a minute and a half but it’s full of some good ol’ fashion rapping. Some of Hodgy’s and the rest of Odd Future’s stuff can get a little too out there for me, but this song is straight hip-hop. There’s no word on if this is going to be part of a project or if it’s just a random single. Either way, download it below:

Keep an eye out for the physical release of BlackenedWhite and follow Hodgy on Twitter.

Tyler The Creator – Goblin

May 11th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Talk about hyping up your shit only to hear just about the same lyrics, mostly the same production, and mostly the same features. Tyler The Creator‘s GOBLIN is just a little bit better than BASTARD but after hearing Tyler talking about how this album would be different than his other stuff, I was disappointed to hear basically the same lyrical material with slightly better production.

Some people are going to take this project and say it’s great, because they love how different Tyler The Creator is. Some are going to say they love it, because they feel the need to buy into the hype with the rest of their suburban white friends and/or the blogs they follow talking about how much they love the album. Either way, I think the album is good, not great. I hope it does well in record sales but I really hope that this opens up more opportunities for the rest of Odd Future as the MellowHype duo, Mike G, and especially Jet Age of Tomorrow are under-appreciated.

Anyways, here’s my two favorite songs that haven’t been posted on here before.
Tyler The Creator – Sandwitches (Featuring Hodgy Beats)
Tyler The Creator – Analog (Featuring Hodgy Beats)
If you are a fan of Tyler The Creator and you still spend money on music, then I recommend buying Goblin. Below watch a video of an old lady reading a few of Tyler The Creator’s tweets. (more…)

OFWGKTA update *Earl, Mike G, Frank Ocean & Hodgy Beats

April 8th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

Odd Future just released an old gem from Earl Sweatshirt called “Dat Ass.” Personally, I like this song because it’s not terrifying. I know the dudes from Odd Future can rap, and it’s cool to see them all rap over more traditional hip-hop beats. I know it’s short, but Earl’s flow is super tight and he uses tons of internal rhymes while fitting in some real awesome punch lines. All I can say is: FREE EARL

Another rapper in Odd Future that should be almost as highly regarded as Tyler The Creator would be Hodgy Beats. “Make My Day” sounds like one of those classy 90’s hip-hop songs that people today listen to and remember for a long time. This would’ve been a great follow-up single for T.W.D.Y. This song came out last year as the first single off Hodgy Beats upcoming mixtape, BeatPads & NotePads.
Hodgy Beats – Make My Day
This is a more common beat for many of the hip-hop members of Odd Future with Mike G in “Forest Green”. I think the rapping is solid, nothing outstanding the beat is chill and would be interesting is somebody sped up the song in some electronic-type remix. First single off Mike G’s upcoming album, GOLD.
Mike G – Forest Green
Next we got R&B member of OFWGKTA, Frank Ocean. Here’s a new song he released since he released his mixtape, Nostalgia/Ultra, in February. Like the acoustic instrumentals with amazing vocals as many record labels are rumored to be looking to sign this future R&B/Soul star.
Frank Ocean – Pyrite (Fool’s Gold)

Hodgy Beats – “Mystery” (OFWGKTA)

Hodgy Beats of Odd Future delivers an awesome new track. It’s called “Mystery” and it samples Moody Blues. Although it has a simple beat, the rapping is quite raw. He and Tyler the Creator are without a doubt the best rappers in the group and I expect them to have a lot of success in the near future. Enjoy!

Odd Future is signed (funny video) + two remixes

Odd Future Gets Signed from Odd Future

Funny video my friend Chris Taylor of MicControl posted earlier today of a meeting between Odd Future (minus Earl) and EKG Recordings (fake record label starring Paul Scheer). So many quotable lines in this hilarious video… “fuck the framer!”

Watch the video and let me know what you think about it!

Although Tyler the Creator is signed to XL Recordings, this video is also funny because this would be the kind of response Odd Future would have if some big shot executives came up to them about changing who they are.

But I can’t leave you without a new song, so here’s Toro y Moi’s remix to one of my favorite Tyler The Creator songs “French”. It’s an interesting take with the instrumentals over some of the craziest lyrics I have heard in a song.
Tyler The Creator – French (Toro y Moi Remix)
While were on the subjects of remixes, get chopped & screwed with Mike G’s remix to Tyler The Creator’s latest hit “Yonkers“, which Kanye West tweeted as the best music video of 2011! Can’t get a much bigger artist than that for an endorsement. Anybody got a safe recipe for sizzurp that I can drink while listening to this remix?

Odd Future on Jimmy Fallon + my 5 fave OFGWKTA tracks

February 17th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Can an artists popularity be measured by the various feelings ignited by their music. If so, Odd Future can become one of the greatest rap groups of the 21st century as you either hate them, love them, or think they are some crazy ass rappers and haven’t figured out your feelings about them. Above they made their TV debut on Jimmy Fallon where Tyler The Creator and Hodgy Beats of Odd Future performed “Sandwitches” (download).

The video features OFWGKTA in ski masks, The Roots performing with them, smoke machines and the girl from The Ring. Plus Tyler The Creator hops on Jimmy Fallon’s back at the end that got me yelling “wolfgang” and “swag” a couple times.

Anyway, to get you up to date on OFWGKTA aka Odd Future, here’s my five favorite songs from the members of one of the most unique up-and-coming hip-hop groups.
Tyler The Creator – French! Featuring Hodgy Beats
MellowHype – CocainKeys
Cool by Earl Sweatshirt And Mike G
Tyler The Creator – Session Ft. Hodgy Beats And BranDun Deshay
Jet Age of Tomorrow – Dust Off (ft. Hodgy Beats & Mike G)
